Which isn’t really leverage, I don’t think. Clearly the Pistons aren’t making a hot pitch for Westbrook or word would have gotten out by now. Point being the folks in Miami aren’t idiots; I’d be willing to bet they’re well aware that the Pistons only have a lukewarm level of interest and probably wouldn’t offer up what OKC would want regardless of there being another suitor or not. Thus Miami doesn’t have to go full tilt to get Westbrook either.

Oh, that guy?

Most probably means that Westbrook is not getting traded to Detroit.

You can pretty much say that about any analyst though.

Where and when did Windhorst say that?

The longer this plays out, the more the Pistons faithful should fret we'll be involved. I see no way right now Miami can give a real deal to them; otherwise it would have happened already. I would only start by considering Westbrook if they were giving us some draft picks, and we were just dishing out one year salary dumps.

100% agree. Westbrook will be a Piston very soon. I can't wait until the season starts man! I got us competing as a top 3 seed in the east when it's all said and done!

If the team stays healthy which would be a huge if with Broody, Griffen, and Rose BUT if they stay healthy and get a good back up C we would be top 4 seed this year. Once Durant gets back id love to watch the battles with him and Westbrook.

I dont see why we wouldnt be a top 4 seed. That would be two more guys we added in WestBrook and Rose who can create their own offense and give you 20ppg doing it.

Last year we had Blake and sometimes Reggie and we all seen the double teams Blake dealt with because of it

My sleeper in this is Orlando. How long have they been down? Attractive city, might get someone to play with Westbrook. Have some assets, too.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

I find it funny when people say the move wouldn’t or couldn’t get us a championship.

The West is a better conference but they are injury’s away from a East championship just like TOR and GSW.

Now is the time to swoop in and make some noise especially this year. You have Durant out for a year so BKN really isn’t that great. I really don’t believe that Philly is better With Horford and Richardson than they were last year. The Bucks are F$&@ed if the freak goes down. We would be better than every other team in the east after those 3.

The time to make a push and try to sneak into the finals is this year and next.

Yeah I've been thinking Magic as well. They could offer the best package. Magic are also happy just going for the 2nd round.

If the Pistons choose to get involved, I think some of the new info on OKC situation shows you should not have to give up draft assets or young players to make this move. By trading Westbrook for expiring opens up the opportunity to bring in a max contract + in a year or take on one in trade. This gives OKC so much flexibility to, along with all their picks acquired already.

Some of the smart connected talking heads have also said any franchises that heavily involves analytics in their decision making process would not touch Westbrook with his current efficiency trends, contract and age. We will see how heavily this is involved in Detroit's decision to participate or is it still being driven with what Gores wants....

Philly is not better than last year, meaning they are as good. Therefore far superior to Det. Bucks are one injury to Giannis away from being irrelevant (same can be said about Det - one injury to Blake, Dre or Russ and we go from contender to 7-8 seed). Indiana also needed up their sqaud quite a bit.

Adding Russ simply does not take us over the top. If the addition of Russ and health is not enough to make you a contender you don't do it.

You don't acquire a $42M (on avg) player to get to #3 with the hope that a few injuries happen to other squads.

Lastly, who is more likely to get injured Giannis or our two 30+ year old high usage PG/PF.

Why not count our injury concerns as well too? We're one injury away from being basically out of the playoffs with even just as the roster as constructed. Certainly no better than where we were last year. Adding WB to that, would be even more of a risk since he's an explosive 30 year old that had his knee's scoped last year and some years prior to that.

All the top heavy East teams got better or at the minimum stayed the same. I would argue they got deeper, rather than overall better. If their (The East contenders) stars go down, they got players and coaches that can step up, to will them a couple of wins. I'm not sure our roster with the way it's constructed is capable of that.

Not sure how you figure, by my observations Boston/Toronto/Philadelphia got worse, Milwaukee should be about the same just losing Brogdon, Indiana lost 3 starters Bogdonovic/Young/Collison, Nets lateral improvement I think, Charlotte is gutted. Unless Orlando/Miami make a big jump I think things will be more open next year. I don't think it's unreasonable to think adding Westbrook might get Detroit up to the Boston/Philadelphia level, Milwaukee would be the only team I think is clearly above them if a reasonable Westbrook trade was made to Detroit. Note I'm not advocating for a trade, but I do think the Pistons could have an outside chance at getting to the Conference finals health allowing w/Westbrook/Drummond/Griffin and cast.

So Miami is refusing to give up either one of Bam or Herro. Im assuming we are doing the same with Kennard and Sekou.

Very telling that Miami won’t give up Bam or Herro for him.

There is a strong limit to what a smart team will give up for Westbrook. He’s worth trading but not for the future.
No Sekou, no 1st rounders. You can have Kennard and Expirings
You need 2-way wings, 2-way shooting bigs, and you can't allow low iq players on the court. Assist/turnover ratio is crucial. Shooting point guards are icing on the cake IF they are plus defenders.
Weaver & Casey, govern yourselves accordingly!
