Joe Asberry wrote:I proposed a Smith, Bynum, Jerebko for Ilyasova, Mayo deal like 1 week ago. Bucks get rid of 2 disappointing players and get a new starting PF, Pistons get two 3pt shooters who's contracts are one year shorter than Smith's + 5 mil more capspace this summer.

I like that one too Joe.

Bucks could rotate Henson, Sanders & Smith at C & PF...Alphabet & Middleton would get plenty of minutes on the wings. Bynum & Jerebko are expiring

At least it's realistic though if we expect Milwaukee to believe Smith can fit with Henson & Sanders why don't we believe he can fit with Drummond & Monroe?

Detroit trades: Smith, 2015 1st (unprotected)
Detroit gets: #24, #45, Zeller, CHA 2015 1st (unprotected), Terry, Williams, Outlaw

Why? Gain minor assets while moving Smith for expirings

Charlotte trades: #24, #45, Zeller, CHA 2015 1st (unprotected)
Charlotte gets: #8

Why? Land high pick in loaded draft

Sacramento trades: #8, Terry, Williams, Outlaw
Sacramento gets: DET 2015 1st (unprotected), Smith
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

Jeremy Lin + #25 for cap space

I think we could get cap space or even a low second for Bynum. Try Jennings off the bench / sixth man type role.

I think taking Lin or Asik from Houston would be easy.

The drama is paying one of those guys $15 mil. They coubt against the cap for $8 mil each but that balloon payment has freaked a lot of teams.

Assuming we wanted to help the Rockets:

Asik & Lin & #25, another pick (or 2) of some description for Bynum.

We burn all our cap space for expirings...and would have to pay Lin & Asik their balloons & get 2 or 3 picks for the trouble.

Houston try to add Melo or someone else.

Doesn't fix our issues on the wing though

Combining different ideas:

Pistons in - #25, Derrick Williams, Jason Thompson, Jason Terry, Travis Outlaw

Rockets in- cap space (a protected future 2nd)

Kings in- Josh Smith, Jeremy Lin

We give ~$6 mil of our cap space away but dump Smith, roll the dice on Williams figuring some things out, add a late 1st and get a (needed) backup big

Kings deal is close to cap neutral for them, but they flip some spare parts into Smith to put between Cousins & Gay and Lin covers them in the event they can't work out a deal with Isaiah Thomas.

I wouldn't touch either of the Kings' long term bad deals in a Smith trade. Basically expirings, that's it.

Pistons in: SF Wilson Chandler + 25th pick (HOU)
Pistons out: SF Kyle Singler + 2 future 2nd round picks

DET Reason: Adds a solid wing player to help with our spacing issues and we also get back into the 1st rd.

Rockets in: 2 future Detroit 2nds, PF/C JJ Hickson
Rockets out: PG Jeremy Lin + 25th pick

HOU Reason: shaves around 9 mill in cap space and adds a young, talented PF to go along with Howard.

Nuggets in: SF Kyle Singler + PG Jeremy Lin
Nuggets out: SF Wilson Chandler + PF/C JJ Hickson

DEN Reason: Turns long-term salary into two expiring contracts that will help them re-sign Faried next off-season.

Could we grant Monroe the opportunity/ability to be contacted by other teams regarding his free agency before July 1st? Like how teams need to request permission to talk to coaches before their contracts are up? If so it could definitely be in our best interest to do so - but given you never hear about it happening elsewhere I'm assuming this probably isn't allowed - right?

According to wiretap the Kings are shopping the #8 pick in hopes of landing Brandon Knight.

If that happens Joe basically traded the #9 pick in this draft for Josh Smith and the #8 pick for Brandon Jennings AND gave them ~$70 million dollars.

This is what happens when you knee-jerk react to so called "talent" and not actually worrying about the business side of the franchise in terms of spending. Thanks Joe.

:nonono:

Even without the Sac trade rumor, that trade was horrible. There was never a need to trade assets for Jennings when he was a free agent not getting any interest from other teams.

Unbelievable, I swear getting rid of Dumars in itself was a successful offseason. Hes completely screwed us for a few seasons in a matter of months once again. He went from the top to the very bottom.

If the Kings are dumb enough to trade the 8th for Knight then there actually maybe hope that they Would package it in a deal for Smith.

They don't have the cap space to absorb Smith outright, we'd have to take back some unfavorable contracts as well, but nothing I wouldn't oppose for the 8th pick.

I know, we would probably have to take back Landry and Williams or something but it would be worth it.

I don't think taking back Thompson or Landry would be the worst thing in the world in a Smith deal. Either would give us a backup big who wouldn't complain about coming off the bench and could give us an decent 15-20 minutes per game, something we'd badly need as our front court would be very thin.

#8/Contract (Thompson or Landry)/Expiring (JET, Williams or Outlaw) would undo the pick Joe lost and essentially take one year off Smith's salary off the books, just spread between '15-'16 and '16-'17. I think that's the ceiling of a semi realistic hope for a Smith deal.

My vote's always been Landry, Jet, and #8 for Smith.
