God I'm so glad Stanley is off this team. Also lmao at all these people on the general board who talk like Stanley is a decent player and that we are dumb for trading him. I don't know a ton about Thon other than he's a big who shoots 3's and is secretly 40 years old but I'll take that over Stanley all day.

Don't like Thon at all, but this was a good move. If for no other reason, it saves Detroit into making a big mistake by extending Stanley this summer.

Thon sucks and can't shoot, but he's a better shooter than Stanley is. Plus Maker plays within his own limits, for the most part.

We haven't lived the Thon experience. Buck fans seem to like him about as much as we like Stanley.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

Doesn't Thon have a longer contract than Stanley?

One more year which would put him in line with everyone else

Yes but it reduces our wiggle room under the luxury tax for next year, though it does increase that wiggle room a little bit this year.

I don't understand.

That is valid only if we were to assume they would have let Stanley walk this summer. I doubt that would have ended up happening, at the least they probably would have brought him back under the QO which is still about $1 mil more more expensive than Maker's number next season.

Oh I'm sure he's terrible but from what I've heard he's atleast capable of making a jump shot which is already way better than Stanley and even Leuer. If he can just stand there and shoot 3's I'll take it lol.

Many seem to be like, well he's 7 feet and he can shoot. He's not a good shooter. The guy has hit 31% of his triples dating back to last season and is a career 65% from the line. It's weird to me that some here are equating this to "shooting unlike Stanley." You don't want a guy who shoots like that just launching, it only makes his percentages look worse.

He's also got a very very slow release, and that has to do with his athleticism and coordination. It takes him a while to catch, gather, and pull. He needs to be WIDE open.

Darn, well he can just stand there and not shoot or do anything at all and I'll still take it over Stanley.Really though this trade was trash for trash and I don't think either team wins.

Bucks fan here. Unlike most Bucks posters, who don't like Thon, I think he has legitimate skills. First, he is a very smart player and understands the game. Listen to any interview with him. Second, he definitely can shoot, but has been inconsistent because of inconsistent playing time. He also is a good defender and shot blocker. He was instrumental in last year taking the Celtics to 7 games in the playoffs.
His downside is that he appears to have small hands and he doesn't rebound well for a guy his size. And despite being a tireless worker, he has a frame that doesn't appear to be able to add much weight. It's a good trade for both teams. Detroit takes a flyer on a young talent ( despite the jokes about his age) and Milwaukee will undoubtedly not resign Johnson and use the savings to resign as many of their 4 starters who are free agents. There was just no room or future for Thon on the Bucks.

Lastly, like most fans, most Bucks posters live in the what have you done for me lately camp. Until several weeks ago, DJ Wilson was their whipping boy. Most posters thought he was one of the worst picks the Bucks ever made. Now, these same posters, are in love with the guy, since he was finally given a chance to play and he has played relatively well. It's the nature of uninformed fans.

For most (except for maybe top players) opportunity and role are a big factor in determining success in the league. I'm all for giving a guy like Thon a chance to flourish in a new system, expanded role. Look no further than Spencer Dinwiddie as a prime example.

Bucks fan here. Thon got a lot of stick from bucks fans but it was justified. He has a good work ethic but is straight up trash. Can't run, poor balance, poor hands, can't catch the ball, poor defensive awareness, out muscled by almost everyone. He's also really clumsy, i'd worry about him working out with griffin.

I'm not mad with adding an Aussie, one thing you'll get is effort, however I do believe he may be a couple of years older than listed but whatevs he's still young and has plenty of upside.

Anyone thinking there's more to come? Who's next?

Is Thon a for sure lost cause? I remember he did well against us one game I saw him in and like his game a bit.

Tall, lengthy, can dribble, shoot the 3. If he can turn into Kevin Durant good, I'll be happy.

KG said he thought Thon will be a league MVP in the future. Perhaps Thon will figure it out with the Pistons. I enjoyed watching him most of the time.

I don't care about Thon's age - we're not drafting him, nor are we extending him 5 years. In both those cases his real age matters. FWIW I believe he is four years older than he claims.

So this still isn’t official which is odd. Chances are high that either Detroit is trying reroute Thon as part of a 3 team trade or Milwaukee is trying to reroute Stanley as part of a 3 team trade.
All posts are my own opinion.
