Stein says Hawks are favorites to land NAW. Forgot about the traded player exception they have- they can outbid us.

Looks like we’ll pivot to Lavert and possibly Duncan Robinson if we fail to land NAW.

That’s …not what I hoped for.

I guess I hoped we’d either get NAW or possibly pivot to an Aldama sign and trade. Lavert and Robinson are just poor replacements for Beasley. NAW was less of a shooter but at least better in other ways.

Nothing is certain yet. We’ll know tomorrow.

Despite the slim chances, I’m still holding out hope there’s still some possibility of Beasley returning.

Slim is generous.

We’ll have to see what happens. It’s not looking good at the moment though. Replacing Beasley/THJ/Schroder with Levert would be a tough pill to swallow.

Granted we’re also getting Ivey back and hopefully we get internal improvement. All hope isn’t lost.

I really hope we do something better than lavert. If Beasley is out and it looks that way, Robinson would be my next bet. Thats a lot of 3s to fill

I just can't get my head around someone risking a NBA career on gambling. Stupid just isn't the word.

From our standpoint, I'm concerned we're now resigning Hardaway and think he'll step into that role. Now if we get NAW...
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

Not sure why NAW would consider us unless he is best friends with Trajan. He can go get more money and start for Atlanta. Ivey is in his way here.

EDIT: forgot about Dyson Daniels somehow…I guess our minutes situation is comparable to ATL. Ignore me…

Atlanta could sign NAW and then just be in trouble again next Summer when Dyson Daniels needs a huge new deal. Feels like a short sighted move for them unless they are going to unload some other salary. Porzingas will be $46 million in 26-27 and Trae will be at $50 million. Daniels is going to get $30+ million offers being a top 5 defender in the league.

I get he fits in and makes a nice 3 guard rotation but they will have cap issues soon if they give him 3 years $45 million type money.

Shams Charania on Malik Beasley: The league is cooperating with the federal prosecutors. So the league, essentially, I mean this is a federal matter now, like this is this is in the hands of the courts now. Q. So does that mean? It’s a big enough amount of money that it’s federal, that it would be some sort of scheming, some conning somehow, how, why would it be? Is this the same as Jontay Porter as well? Charania: I mean, to my knowledge, it’s the same kind of district area in New York. I again don’t know how vast how big this one is in comparison to Jontay Porter, but the league has said at this point their measure is to work and cooperate with federal authorities.

As of today:

“ESPN’s Shams Charania reported on the Pat McAfee Show on Monday that Terry Rozier has now been cleared of any wrongdoing regarding the federal probe. “Terry Rozier as of now has been cleared. He finished the season with Miami, there’s nothing really active as of right now with him,” Charania said.”

Rozier in basically the same situation and got cleared…gives me a little hope? Took forever to get to this…so is it possible we still go ahead and give a deal to Beasley and roll the dice hoping for a similar outcome?

The feds will be able to figure out who places those high $$$ prop bets on Beasley, what (if any) connection they have to Beasley and then also will look for evidence that Beasley knowingly helped out a known sports better. Beasley could very well be guilty but there might not be enough proof to bring anything against him. Hard to say how long it will be ongoing but someone will give him a minimum non guaranteed deal with the way he can shoot the ball.

As ok as I am with moving on from Beasley replacing him with Levert is a huge gamble I am just not willing to make.

It all depends on the price. I wouldn't give him MLE $ but if he's cheap for 2 years the risk seems minimal. He's 30 so I doubt teams are lining up to give him a 3 or 4 year deal.

I think with Rozier being cleared we should at least save him a one year league min for Beasley, if it goes away and he’s continued producing I think he gets an even bigger contract next summer, and it will likely be a more decisive summer for us as far as the roster goes anyways.

You don't need to save anything to offer a league minimum contract to someone. Those contracts are available for every team, at any time, regardless of cap situation.

Having a roster spot, would be the more pertinent matter. But opening up one, should the necessity to do so arise, wouldn't be all that hard. After resigning Reed, I believe Detroit currently has 4 open roster spots, well 3 if we assume Lanier will get one. Can also always do a 2 for 1 type trade, or just cut a guy like Klintman.
