Heat to retire Mourning's No. 33
So on to the next chapter -- but not before one more celebration of his 15-year career takes place when the Miami Heat host the Orlando Magic. Mourning's No. 33 jersey will be retired Monday, making him the first former Heat player so honored by the organization.

Iverson returns, Wallace still out for Pistons
Coach Michael Curry resorted to psychological tactics in his effort to coax Rasheed Wallace and Allen Iverson back onto the court.

It half-worked. "Those guys are going to be in uniform, and I am only going to ask them at the end of (pregame) warm-ups if they can go," he said. "Maybe being in uniform, going through warm-ups, their palms get to sweating and the heart starts beating faster, maybe that will entice them to get out there a little faster. "Maybe there's a little strategy to the madness."

It worked on Iverson, who told Curry he was ready to return after missing 16 games with a sore back. Iverson stepped up his pregame routine, working up a pretty good sweat. Apparently, the back loosened up enough to allow him to give it a shot. Wallace still was a no-go. He missed his 11th straight game with a sore left calf.

Allen Iverson returns for Pistons vs. 76ers
Pistons guard Allen Iverson played today against the Philadelphia 76ers after missing 16 games with a back injury. Pistons coach Michael Curry said before the game that Iverson might play, and he checked into the game to replace Tayshaun Prince with 2:51 left in the first quarter and Detroit leading Iverson’s former team, 25-23. Iverson, who was acquired from Denver for Chauncey Billups in an early season trade, is averaging 18 points in 54 games.

The Pistons had lost six of seven before Saturday's win at Washington. They are tied with Chicago for the final two spots in the Eastern Conference playoff race. Charlotte is 2 1/2 games behind both clubs. The Sixers, meanwhile, will be hoping to bounce back from a bad loss. Raymond Felton's drive to the hoop with 7.9 ticks left helped Charlotte avoid blowing an 18-point, fourth-quarter lead, as the Bobcats held on for a 100-95 victory Friday.

Philadelphia is now a game behind fifth-place Miami in the East and 2 1/2 games ahead of Detroit and Chicago. Detroit, which is 18-19 at the Palace, has lost four of its last five games at home. The Sixers, who are 16-19 as the visitor on the year, have won three straight over the Pistons, including a 96-91 win in Auburn Hills on Dec. 5.

A.I. returns to beat old team
Tayshaun Prince scored 21 points as the Pistons beat the 76ers, 101-97, tonight at the Palace. One night after Richard Hamilton returned for the Pistons against the team that drafted him, Allen Iverson suited up for the first time in nearly a month versus his first team, the 76ers.

Iverson played 18 minutes and scored eight points on 3-for-9 shooting. Rodney Stuckey scored 16, Hamilton 14, Kwame Brown 13 and Will Bynum added 12.

Andre Iguodala scored 27 points for Philadelphia. Thaddeus Young added 22, Andre Miller 13 and Lou Williams scored 10.

Allen Iverson's return helps Pistons knock off Sixers, 101-97
Detroit Pistons guard Allen Iverson's return to the lineup provided just the late-game spark Detroit needed, as the Pistons rallied in the fourth quarter for a 101-97 win over the Philadelphia 76ers.After a back-and-fourth battle most of the night, Richard Hamilton's baseline jumper with 14 seconds to play sealed the victory. Iverson, who has been out more than a month with a back injury, had eight points in his first game back in his new role as a reserve.

Although he didn't score a bunch of points, his ability to draw fouls early in the fourth quarter, helped Detroit get into the bonus sooner than usual. And those free throw attempts proved invaluable for a Detroit team that has now strung together back-to-back wins. His return comes less than 24 hours after Richard Hamilton returned from a left groin injury that sidelined him for six games.

With the win, Detroit (36-37) moves ahead of Chicago (36-39) for the seventh seed and trails Philadelphia by 1.5 games now. Meanwhile, Sunday's loss was a tough blow to a Philadelphia team (37-35) that's trying to move up to the fifth spot in the East which is currently held by Miami. The Sixers were led by Andre Iguodala's 27 points and Thaddeus Young who chipped in 22. Tayshaun Prince led all Detroit scorers with 21 points.

Iverson returns, Prince scores 21 to lead Pistons
Tayshaun Prince scored 21 points, Rodney Stuckey added 16 points and Allen Iverson returned from a back injury to help the Detroit Pistons beat the Philadelphia 76ers 101-97 on Sunday and gain ground in the Eastern Conference playoff race. Iverson, who missed 16 games, scored eight points in 22 minutes as Detroit pulled within 1{ games of Philadelphia for sixth place in the conference.Philadelphia's Samuel Dalembert left in the first quarter with a leg injury and didn't return.

Richard Hamilton had 14 points and seven assists for the Pistons, and Antonio McDyess scored 13. Andre Iguodala had 24 points and Thaddeus Young added 22 for the 76ers. The lead changed 19 times in the first three quarters, but the 76ers began to take charge late in the third, using an 8-1 run to take a 83-79 lead. Two quick baskets by Iguodala made it 89-83 with 9:55 left, but Detroit scored the next 10 points for the game's 20th lead change.

The Pistons built the margin to as many as six, but Philadelphia pulled to 99-97 on Iguodala's layup with 35 seconds left. Hamilton, though, hit a baseline jumper with 14 seconds left and the Pistons held on. The Sixers argued that Hamilton had stepped out of bounds, but replays were inconclusive.

Goran Suton had 19 points and 10 rebounds as the second-seeded Spartans (30-6) played the pace game to perfection and reached their fifth Final Four in 11 years -- the most trips of any team in the nation during that span.

Durrell Summers, who delivered 10 second-half points, grew up in Detroit. Kalin Lucas, the Big Ten player of the year, was raised 10 minutes from the giant stadium.

Clark led Louisville with 19 points, but the only other player to reach double figures was backup guard Preston Knowles, who had all 11 points in the first half. Williams finished with five points, six rebounds and four assists.

Ty Lawson scored 19 points and top-seeded North Carolina overcame a quiet game from Hansbrough to beat the Sooners 72-60 Sunday in the South Regional final.

Danny Green scored 18 points for the Tar Heels and Deon Thompson added 10. Hansbrough was in foul trouble early and finished with only eight points, but he'd said the previous day he wasn't going to be caught up in a head-to-head battle with Griffin.

Griffin scored 23 points with 16 rebounds for second-seeded Oklahoma, but the Sooners (30-6) went 2-for-19 from 3-point range.

MSU in Final Four
I cannot believe that MSU has gone to the Final Four! They are going to beat the **** out of UCONN. I can feel it! Lets go Spartans and Pistons. ( I wish the Pistons had this kind of luck!)

KG update
Kevin Garnett will miss the Celtics' game against Oklahoma City Sunday night and is questionable for Wednesday's matchup with Charlotte. Garnett, recovering from a right knee strain, did not participate in this morning's shootaround.

"I just think we've got to be smart about it," coach Doc Rivers said. "It's just like when somebody says somebody is going to be back in a week or two, that's not a guarantee. If a guy gets sore, do we play him because we say he's supposed to be back playing? You just use your common sense. Put it like this, he would have to be very good for me to play him. He won't be out long. We've got two days (Monday and Tuesday) off and, hopefully, by the end of the week."

Garnett could be available when the Celtics play host to Atlanta Friday. Rivers has scheduled four days of practice after that.

Garnett to sit vs. Thunder, Bobcats
Boston Celtics forward Kevin Garnett is out for another two games.

Celtics coach Doc Rivers said Sunday night that Garnett would miss the game against Oklahoma City and probably Wednesday's against Charlotte.

Garnett missed 13 games with a strained right knee, then played part-time in four while trying to work his way back into shape. He missed Friday night's game against Atlanta. Boston is 11-6 without Garnett this season.

Wizards rest Arenas vs. Pacers
As expected, Wizards guard Gilbert Arenas was held out of Sunday night's 124-115 loss against Indiana to allow his surgically repaired left knee more time to rest.

Arenas had 15 points against Detroit on Saturday night in his first game in 11 months, but coach Ed Tapscott says Arenas will not play back-to-back games and his playing time will be limited to about 28 minutes when he does appear. Tapscott says Arenas was "feeling fine" after playing against the Pistons. "No knee soreness at all, just the muscle soreness that comes with playing your first high-level game in a while."

The 98-96 loss to the Pistons was Arenas' first game since April 27, 2008. The three-time All-Star had missed 156 of his Wizards' previous 173 games and had three surgeries over an 18-month span amid two premature comeback attempts.

Mark Cuban fined for Twitter comments
The AP reports: The NBA slapped Mavericks owner Mark Cuban with a $25,000 fine Sunday for publicly criticizing the officials after Denver’s 103-101 win over Dallas. Cuban used the Twitter online social network to complain after Friday night’s game that Denver’s J.R. Smith was not called for coming off the bench to taunt Antoine Wright after he missed a shot near the Nuggets bench.

The Celtics power forward left in the third quarter after being elbowed in the head and returned after getting stitched up to score 15 points in the final 10 minutes and lead Boston to a 103-84 victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder on Sunday night.

"I'm going to have somebody knock some sense into him, like they did," Celtics coach Doc Rivers said. "Clearly, once they hit him he was a different person. So, either someone else on the other team, or I'm going to carry a hammer around."

Davis, who has been starting since Kevin Garnett went out with a strained right knee, had just two points in the first half and two more before Kevin Durant's elbow came down on his forehead with 5:47 left in the third quarter and Boston trailing by six. Davis returned to the bench at the end of the quarter and came back in with 9:42 to play and the Celtics up 77-72.

Thunder re-assign DJ White to D-League
Oklahoma City Thunder Executive Vice President and General Manager Sam Presti announced today that the team has re-assigned forward D.J. White to the Tulsa 66ers of the NBA Development League.

White was previously assigned to the 66ers on March 18 before being recalled on March 23. During his first stint in Tulsa, he appeared in three games averaging 17.3 points, 9.7 rebounds, 2.0 blocks and 1.0 assist in 37.7 minutes. He is expected to be in uniform tonight when Tulsa hosts Bakersfield at 6:00 P.M.

NBA teams can assign up to two players who are rookies or in their second season to their D-League affiliate. Players can stay with the D-League team for as long as the team wishes, and be recalled back to the NBA at any time. However, a player can only be sent to the D-League a maximum of three times during the season.
