Portland has a conditional first going out, so I think their hands are tied on FRPs.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

Prove it. Provide a source/link.

Easy. There's no one even reporting that it was.
What am I missing? He wasn't playing?

It'd have to be the New Orleans first rounder they have coming in, right? Basically we'd have to be part of the CJ deal.

No Thank You

Basically this. It'd be the Bledsoe plus lotto pick and that would be it in this current trade market

I think it might be the 2022 New Orleans pick + the trade exception? Taking on Bledsoe wouldn't be a huge deal tho

It would have to be the New Orleans pick situated at 9 right now plus the trade exception and a player.
What player would it be? Hart or NWA as the young guy. Or might it be Simmons and Pick and Exception because they want to save cap space and not pay 20-30 mil for Simmons.

I'd be all over Simmons and the Pelicans draft pick. Save cap, good player, lottery pick. That seems too good to be true.
NWA meh, Hart made jokes like lyles about playing for Detroit. Jusif is there only real center.

So the pick, trade exception and who? Simmons, Hart, NWA?

orrrrrr

The pick, trade exception NWA or Hart and another future first. 2 firsts and a meh player and trade exception.

From what trade?

They owe a conditional 2023 1st to Chicago, that will become 2nds after a few years.

Okay, so the only first we could possibly get from them is the one they just got.

Less than optimal.

Beal undergoing season ending surgery - kills off Grant to DC option.

If I am not mistaken, a team cannot go to the draft 2 years in a row without a 1st round pick, now that they acquired a 1st, I believe they can trade either, but not both. They can trade either their 22 1st or the NO first, but since they don't have a 1st next year, they need to keep one.

Bledsoe and the NOP first for Grant. Or their pick, as I think vege may be right. I doubt they'd include Mitchell or another first.

It's a lotto protected 1st that Portland owes Chicago starting in 2022 (super unlikely to convey this year obviously)... and will become a SRP if not conveyed as a 1st by 2028... so pretty much in 2028 if the Blazers are in the lottery, the Bulls get their SRP but if the Blazers are not in the lottery then the Bulls get the pick.

Portland can still deal their own 1sts, just with more elaborate conditions... I could see them sending it out as protected 1-4 and 15-30.

The Portland pick that was traded to the Bulls is a 2022 lottery protected first. I know about the stipen rule, but can they trade the other part of that pick. Can they trade the 2022 1st protected 15-30?
Apparently the Pelicans pick is split like that between the Hornets and Blazers. 5-14 goes to Blazers, 15-30 to the Hornets, 1-4 Pelicans. Crazy.

Guys, we are looking at this all wrong.

We shouldn't be looking into what teams have assets they can trade for Grant, we should be looking into what teams have dead cap money they can transfer to Detroit in a Grant trade.

Weaver prioritizes acquiring dead cap when he makes trades.
