Delonte West "doubtful" vs. Celtics
• Delonte West was listed as doubtful by the Cavs following shootaround this morning at The Q. This is not surprising but it is a disappointment, not just for the fans but also the players. Yesterday LeBron James said he was hoping West would be able to join the team for the first big game. This continued yo-yoing, even within the team, must cause distraction, no matter what anyone says

• Glen Davis is out of tonight's game with a broken right thumb, which he suffered in a fight with a college teammate Saturday. Reports out of Boston suggest he could miss the next 4-6 weeks and that the Celtics owner, who is not pleased, may suspend him for his actions. The short term impact on the Cavs is this: the Celtics are a little thin up front because Brian Scalabrine is also out. So expect big doses of Rasheed Wallace and Shelden Williams tonight off the bench. This is the depth the Celtics didn't have last season, especially after current Cav Leon Powe got hurt

No. 1 pick Griffin out up to six weeks
Rookie forward Blake Griffin might miss up to six weeks with a stress fracture of his left patella suffered during the Clippers last preseason game vs. New Orleans last Friday.

Team officials will have more comment Tuesday. Further information regarding Griffin's course of treatment will be made available later, the team said.

Bell puts off surgery, at least for now
Charlotte Bobcats guard Raja Bell is putting off surgery on his left wrist and -- in a best-case scenario -- could be playing in about a week.

Bell got encouraging news from a Chicago hand specialist, who said it's worth trying to avoid surgery on a torn ligament. The plan now is for him to practice to the extent that he can tolerate the pain. Bell said he can shoot fine, but that passing (requiring him to snap his left wrist) is quite painful. Defense will obviously be a problem, since that entails impeding opposing players with both arms.

Bell said his wrist feels noticeably better since he injured it Oct. 18 versus the Utah Jazz. If he doesn't continue improving, he could opt for an arthroscopic procedure to explore whether corrective surgery is warranted. That scope would put him out 4-6 weeks. If corrective surgery is necessary, he'd be out as much as four months.

The Celtics also will be missing Tony Allen (ankle surgery), Brian Scalabrine (ankle sprain), and Bill Walker (knee surgery) tonight.

Ray Allen, who sustained a cut over his eye during practice Saturday, trained at full speed and is expected to be in the starting lineup.

Big Al says 'no doubt' he'll play in opener
When Al Jefferson takes the court Wednesday -- and he is determined to -- he will wear a black sleeve over his left lower leg to help loosen up a sore Achilles' tendon.

The aching tendon kept him from practicing for about a week, but he scrimmaged Monday at Target Center with no problems.

Wolves coach Kurt Rambis said the team will have to monitor Jefferson's injury into the season, which was relayed to Jefferson. "I guess so," he said. "I'm still playing on Wednesday, regardless."

Injury bug already biting into NBA
Injuries in the NBA are as common as the flu/cold, but this preseason has been particularly, um, stressful in that regard. The list of ailing players continues to grow at an alarming pace, and the regular season tipoff remains hours away. The list of wounded - those expected to miss anywhere from a few games to a few months - include the Kings' Francisco Garcia (fractured arm/wrist), Kevin Love (broken hand), Al Jefferson (Achilles tendinitis), Josh Howard (wrist/ankle surgery), Nicholas Batum (shoulder), Glen Davis (thumb) and Blake Griffin, the overall No.1 pick who could miss up to six weeks with a fractured kneecap.

Griffin's absence for the opening weeks (if not longer) is almost a routine blow for the Clippers. The former Oklahoma star was originally hurt when he bumped knees with teammate Craig Smith while scrimmaging a few days before camp opened. He aggravated the injury in Friday's preseason game against New Orleans, continuing to experience swelling even while sitting out subsequent workouts. The extent of the ailment was revealed a few hours ago .... causing the most resilient of Clippers fans to recall the injury-marred careers of the club's former lottery picks Danny Manning (No.1 overall in 1988) and Charles Smith.
