Reynolds delivered down the stretch, finishing with 18 points, and No. 10 Villanova rallied to beat DePaul 74-72 on Wednesday night for its ninth win in 10 games.

He had plenty of help in the second half from Dante Cunningham, who scored 14 of his 18 points over the final 20 minutes. But Reynolds shouldered the load in the end, scoring eight points over the last 2:05 to lead the Wildcats (23-5, 11-4 Big East) to a win that was more dramatic than expected.

Cunningham was 7-of-13 from the field, and Corey Fisher added 12 points for Villanova, which got more drama than it bargained for from the lone team without a Big East win.

David West had 30 points, Chris Paul scored 20 and added 13 assists and the duo combined for 23 of the Hornets' 25 points in the fourth quarter of a 90-87 victory Wednesday night.

Walter Herrmann missed a 3-pointer from the wing that would have forced overtime as the Pistons lost for the eighth consecutive time, their longest skid in 14 seasons. Richard Hamilton scored a team-high 24 points.

Center Tyson Chandler had a season-high 17 rebounds in his first game at home since a failed physical aborted a trade to Oklahoma City. He had not played at the New Orleans Arena since Jan. 17, when he sprained an ankle against the Indiana Pacers, and the crowd gave him a loud ovation when the starting lineups were introduced. He scored the first basket of the game on a tip-in and helped hold Wallace to one point in the first half.

Pistons' Richard Hamilton wants to start again
The Detroit Pistons were hoping Richard Hamilton come off the bench would make them a better team. It hasn't worked out quite that well. In fact, the Pistons' record has gotten progressively worse.

Because of that, Hamilton believes a change is needed, one that would involve him returning to the starting lineup where he has led the team in scoring each of the past six seasons."Me coming off the bench, I said I'd come off the bench as long as we win," Hamilton said. "But we've been losing."

The Pistons are 17-16 this season with Hamilton in the starting lineup. But in his current role as the team's sixth man, they are just 4-12. "Something has to give, something's gotta change," said Hamilton, who added that he has yet to talk with head coach Michael Curry about the matter. "I'm all for doing whatever for the team, but coming off the bench and we're not winning, that's something totally different."

Pistons' rally falls short, losing streak hits eight
Rasheed Wallace was in the midst of one of his best games in weeks. But early in the fourth quarter, he lost his cool. Soon after that, the Detroit Pistons lost -- again. Wallace's implosion paved the way for the Hornets to build a nice little cushion, which proved to be just enough to withstand a late rally by Detroit that fell short, 90-87. "We got unraveled a little bit," Pistons coach Michael Curry said. "I thought we still had a chance."Detroit had one last chance to tie the game and force overtime, but Walter Herrmann's desperation 3-point attempt was well off the mark as the loose ball sailed out of bounds as time expired.

But even before that play, the Pistons had multiple opportunities to at least position themselves to take the lead in the game's closing seconds. But Detroit failed to come up with a much-needed rebound, as the Hornets continued to grab one offensive rebound after another when the game mattered most. "It's always something, like a missed opportunity to get a defensive rebound, they get it," Detroit's Richard Hamilton said. "And come up with two free throws, and then we're down 3 with six seconds to go." For the most part, the Pistons played the type of game they wanted to, which only adds to their disappointment as they dropped their eighth in a row. It's the first time since the 1994-95 season that Detroit has lost as many consecutive games. "I thought we played hard," Hamilton said. "I thought we really shared the ball, we had a lot of movement. When you're not playing as well as we have been, these losses hurt." But the Pistons lost more than a game Wednesday. Wallace's meltdown included his ejection after picking up two technical fouls. He now has 16 for the season, which means he will have to serve a one-game suspension in Friday's game against the Orlando Magic. Even before Wallace's ejection, the Pistons were playing short-handed. Allen Iverson left in the first quarter with a stiff back, from an injury suffered in Tuesday's loss at Miami. He is being listed as day-to-day.

Will Bynum, seeing action in the second quarter because of Iverson's injury, helped spark the Pistons during a 15-6 run that tied the game at 30. The Pistons took a brief 42-41 lead after a steal by Bynum that set up an uncontested dunk for Antonio McDyess. New Orleans All-Star David West scored the final basket of the half, which ended with New Orleans ahead 43-42. With Iverson out, Hamilton found himself in a familiar role with the starting unit in the third quarter. After scoring 14 points in the first half, New Orleans players paid closer attention to Hamilton in the third quarter. That seemed to open up scoring opportunities for his teammates, whose play allowed Detroit to regain the lead, 50-48, after a pair of free throws by Tayshaun Prince. The game remained relatively close for the remainder of the quarter, which ended with the Hornets clinging to a 65-64 lead after a 3-pointer by Wallace late in the quarter. Although disappointed with the outcome, Curry was pleased with his team's effort despite a series of setbacks throughout the game. "We're going through a tough stretch," Curry said. "We get through this stretch and this struggle, if we can manage to stay together and put some wins together, I think we'll be better because of it."

Kevin McHale may keep coaching Wolves
The St. Paul Pioneer Press (Don Seeholzer) reports: Minnesota Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor strongly indicated today during a telephone interview that he would like to see Kevin McHale remain as coach and doesn’t see him returning to his former role as vice president of basketball operations. “I think we’re beyond that,” Taylor said. “I think Kevin has taken over coaching. I don’t think he’s making a decision of going back to that or not. I think the decision that he will make is, he said he’d commit with this team to coach them (this season). I think that’s the direction that he’s chosen, I’ve chosen, and I think that’s the direction that we’re looking at. I anticipate that he will be here in coaching.”

Vlade Divac new president of Serbia basketball Olympic committee
Fiba.com reports: Serbia basketball great Vlade Divac on Tuesday became the new president of the country’s Olympic Committee (OKS). Divac, who won numerous medals with the former Yugoslavia in international competition and also enjoyed a long career in the NBA, was confirmed as the new president at the General Assembly of OKS just minutes after his rival, former president Ivan Curkovic, decided to step out of the race. Curkovic explained that his sudden move was made “due to political pressure” that he was under, and “to secure legality of the election” since delegates previously had decided not to vote secretly for the president, which is a requirement under current OKS statutes if there is more than one candidate.
