3rd update says it's a no go in it's current form...no doubt we don't fancy giving up a first

dammit, so close!

Can't fault us for not wanting to give up the only bright spot of this miserable season (lottery pick).

I would rather throw in TMac than our first, though here TMac's value is diminished. But I'd do it even with the pick, it's just not an optimal deal.

But I think it is just a worthless rumor. Melo said he won't sign an extension in NJ. I don't think Rip really is going to change that. I'm not sure why NJN would do such a move if Melo does not extend.

More from Broussard, his twitter:

In the proposed 3-way for Melo, NJ wants Detroit to take TMurphy & JohanPetro 4 Rip and Det's 1st round pick. Pistons said No Way.

Maybe the Pistons should make it a top 5 protected pick? Still I do not think the Pistons should be compensating so much for NJ. Even though I badly want Rip gone it is lopsided. But these are the kind of offers Joe will be getting in order to get rid of bad contracts...

Sending a pick makes it an absolutely stupid move.

Joe did screw us over for years with his two-SGs signing spree. but still, our lottery pick is pretty much untouchable unless we're getting a core young starter back. That pick could net us a FRANCHISE player, or be used in a trade for a borderline star.

I am not keeping track of the prospects this year. But if the Pistons improve at the end of the season (quite possible with different rotation, Monroe improvement, Wilcox return, and TMac's return) and get to 35 wins and are out of the top 10, how valuable do you think the pick is?

from Woj

# If Nets have a chance to get 3-way done for Melo, there's no way a desire to pluck another pick would stand in way. Everything's negotiable. less than 5 seconds ago via web

# DET wouldn't trade '11 pick, but would consider deal including Murphy-Petro for Rip to save $25M with team's financial woes, sources tell Y! 4 minutes ago via web

# NJ needs a 3rd team to move Murphy contract, but why would DET take Petro's $7M and lose an '11 lottery pick just to clear Rip's contract? 35 minutes ago via web

# As @Al_Iannazzone wrote, NJ-DET talked as part of Melo 3way. Talks died when NJ wanted DET 1st rounder AND dump Petro on them, sources say.

C'mon NJ you can't be that stupid to really expect the pick. Hopefully that was just the first offer to negotiate down from. Leave the pick out and I do the trade. Dump rip, get an expiring (who happens to be a big man), not to mention having Prince expiring leaves us in a decent spot to reload next year.

Come on, who will trade for Rip, no one...DET has to sweeten the pot with a pick or a player, something?

I would take that deal if we could give up our 2nd round pick instead of our 1st round pick. Maybe throw in summers too.

If NJ wants melo to resign then this trade isn't happening. aside from that i like this trade without our pick obviously. i would be willing to give up someone like jerebko or CV or a 2nd rounder or something. im glad dumars said "no way" to giving up our pick in this deal.

Rip for Troy would be fine.
Rip for Troy and Petro (useless lazy stiff we have no room for) would be meh, but allright I guess.
Rip for Troy, Petro and our 1st would be unacceptable.

Anyway, why would we keep on biting on those Melo to NJ rumors ? I'll believe Melo is a Net when I'll see it.

So that sweetener is going to be what's likely a top 7 pick (probably higher, I don't see the team improving much)? Besides, the Nets would already be getting Anthony. Do they really need much else?

I would do this, if it wasnt for Petro. The pick would have to be protected 11-down. Joe cant draft to save his ASS so it wouldnt matter if it was a lotto pick people! That pick is as good as worthless. May as well get some cap relief out of it.

RIP plus 1round pick10 and up only, for Murphy and you got a deal!
