Memphis did not extend him a QO making him an UFA.
Gordon is gone So we no longer have a SG glut. Shouldn't we go after him with our MLE?
I know we just drafted 2 wingers and all but for 2nd rounders to be solid NBA contributors it's a long shot, and while Mayo is not what was expected from him when he was drafted he is extremely talented and for 5 mil/year he would fit our young core really well imo.

No. We should not waste the MLE on a guy like Mayo, he's a terrible ball player. I don't get the fascination with him. I get that he had hype in higschool but he underperformed in college and in the NBA, he's worse than Ben Gordon for pete sake

I'd rather have English playing the same amount of minutes, developing him and spending the money on something more useful IF we're going to do it.

BG's problem was his contract. If it was the MLE BG would've been fine for us.

yeah we don't need him now. We got Stuckey who's just as good himself, imo, and now have English who might end up being better at a fraction of the cost.
If we're using the full MLE I'd rather it be on a big man that can start for a year, maybe two, while Drummond develops. I don't think its necessary, but would help if we want to make the playoffs. And Drummond will get his 20-25 mpg regardless. But I'd rather someone else than Maxiell starting.

They didn't even extend the QO.
They didn't just not want him, they were so certain they wouldn't want him that they didn't even leave the option open to wait and see if he signed a relatively inexpensive offer sheet.
No thank you.

I agree with both of the above. Maybe I'm not as down on Mayo as pop but I don't want the team to spend money on him either. Getting another guard in the rotation isn't a bad idea but Mayo isn't that guy in my opinion. Let's see what English (or Middleton if he impresses, I just think English offers more of what the team needs right now) can do before spending money on the SG position this year.

Same thing the Bucks did with CV. That should tell you just how much Mayo sucks (if watching him play wasn't enough evidence for you).

Agreed, and his fanboys are some of the most annoying people around. No **** thanks.

If he didn't score 18 ppg with 46% FG and 38% from 3 points while starting during his first 2 seasons I wouldn't have started this thread, I'm not like some people around here, who start threads for no reason and post empty stuff like you just did.
Thanks for reminding me why you were on my foe list.

I was probably on your foe list because you like to post nonsense I don't agree with. I assume you want to go after Tyreke Evans too because of his excellent rookie campaign? How about we go after first team all rookie al Thornton? Surely he must be good because he played well his first year. Hell scrap our current team. We can sign all the former all rookies because they're bound to get better. Jamario where you at? Johnny flynn we need you! Luther head we got a starting gig for you. GM vege wants you!
What I posted is 100% true. Mayo is living off his high school slam cover hype.

If Mayo is so good why would a team that was 20th in scoring say "GTFO Mayo we don't want you back at any price"? I'll tell you why. He sucks! He not only has failed to improved as a player since coming into the league he has regressed! The team has improved as his role has reduced. On top of that he's a choking chucker. His performances in the playoffs have been legendary in the suck category. I'd rather give pt to our 2nd round picks than waste money on a bum who is still living off of his high school hype.

The fun of debating this aside, I'm afraid it's a moot point. I read that Mayo wants a contract worth well more than any exception, which means we won't be able to sign him no matter what. And even if reality slaps him upside the face and he has to accept an MLE deal, that means he sure as hell won't accept an MLE deal to come play behind Stuckey on a rebuilding team.
I've heard rumors linking him to the Celtics to replace Ray Allen, and that's actually not a bad fit for all parties, as Mayo and Bradley could form an "offense / defense" SG tandem next to Rondo.

He needs to go somewhere where he can have the ball in his hands frequently. We aren't a good fit, it would just be another BG situation(when Kuester was coach, Lawrence did a much better job at incorporating him into the offense). No thanks.
I want to see OJ Mayo succeed, but it's not going to be here.

If he could be had for the MLE or under then he's a realistic option to take over BG's old of the bench spot, but he will most likely get overpaid by a mid range playoff team. I'm thinking Indy.
Personally i don't want to sign anybody else. Surely between Daye, English, maggettte and Middleton we can fill the time that Stuckey is on the bench. No point spending where we don't need to.
Also if stuckey is resting we can play Knight at SG with stupid Bynum at the point. ( i hate watching that, but it'll happen regardless)
He wouldn't be a bad pick up at the right price, but he'll get more somewhere else.

Sadly that's what I see happening as well and I hate the idea. It's so good when people post content worth reading and replying. Thanks dVs.
