I think Monroe is a much safer bet to reach his ceiling, but if Drummond puts it all together, with his length and athleticism, he will be very special

Drummond. Thats a big part of what makes it such a huge pickup. We just wanted a compliment to Monroe, but not many thought we'd actually get someone that could be better than Monroe. In the end, Monroe may end up Drummond's compliment.

Both could potentially end up top 10 bigs in the NBA, that being said Monroe is a much safer bet while Drummond is a pretty large gamble. I really hope both of them live up to their potential though,

It's not really the ceilings they have to worry about being high, but rather doorways. They'd both be bumping their heads a lot if they came to Japan.

I don't think Dre will bust. That's just my opinion though.

Hes young and intelligent; I think he'll figure it out eventually, and hes in a near-perfect environment. I don't think there's a better team for him than Detroit.

Real question is which one will be poached by LA and which one will head to Brooklyn or the Heat? Only five teams matter in the league anymore - everybody else is JV.

The only way we can keep them is by winning to be honest.

^agreed. I really think ppl need to sop talking about busting. He's no more likely to bust than any rookie. ppl thought Monroe was going to be a bust as well as Knight. Drummonds no different I guess.

imo, Anthony Davis has more bust potential then Drummond, but you never hear ppl talk about him being a bust. If he doesn't get his weight/strength up in a hurry though, he's going look like a bust as a rookie at least. Once NBA bigs start punishing him down low on a regular basis and he can't do anything to stop them from over powering him, ppl are going to start calling him a bust. If he never gets his strength up, he may stay a bust.

Drummond on the other hand will always have a role on some team just because of his size/strength in the post. It would've been interesting to see how the draft played out had UK played UCONN, and Davis got dominated in the post by Drummond, which is what I predict would happen if they matched up right now. Would Davis still be #1 or would it have been Drummond? Good thing for us no one got to see that.

I'd put money on Monroe being the better player, but yeah, the choice is obvious for ceiling.

I'm not sure how useful a term that is though given how difficult it is to quantify potential.

I think dummond could be very special. I am just glad he didnt go to kentucky because he would have never made it past the 2 pick.

Project ceiling based on physical attributes, mental attributes and skill. Drummond has better physical attributes. His defensive skill projects higher than Monroe's did coming into the NBA. But it seems somewhat misguided to compare projected ceilings of a guy with two years in the league and a guy who hasn't played an NBA game. Monroe has already shown impressive NBA skill. Most here see him as an All-Star soon. Drummond? We just don't know enough about his skills. What I've seen so far does not project higher than our soon-to-be All-Star. But none of us know.

It might be more meaningful to compare what Monroe's projected ceiling was when he was drafted with Drummond's projected ceiling now. I still feel that Monroe was less of a question mark than Drummond--but Drummond has an athletic advantage. Mentally, Monroe projected better than Drummond (there were some questions about Monroe's motor, but I don't think it was close to how Drummond's has been questioned).

Let the hype machine go at full throttle....

Monroe/Drummond vs DRob/Duncan

Monroe/Drummond vs Sampson/Hakeem

Could the Bad Boys hold Monroe and Drummond to under triple doubles?

Could the 04 Pistons stop Drummond from scoring 50?

Knight/Stuckey vs Isiah/Joe

Would Knight avg over/under 25ppg vs 1989 Joe Dumars?

Charlie V vs Mark Aguirre

Would CV31 get 40pts on Aguirre?

Let the over Hype begin.........

PS Yes I was guilty of it 9 yrs ago on this board comparing a certian rookie C of ours to KAJ.

What makes Drummond fun is there is a one in ten thousand chance he ends up the GOAT. He has the physical characteristics of a dominant center, and theoretically, he could develop Hakeem/Duncan levels of basketball skill. In which case, GOAT or close to it. But were I a betting person I'd be fairly comfortable picking Monroe over Drummond for the better player when all is said and done. Skill matters quite a lot in basketball - it isn't all about being biggest, quickest or strongest.

Yeah, hype can be ridiculous sometimes, but those statements have never been made here. You made them up. Pretty much everyone acknowledges Drummond has bust potential. But you can't deny the upside.
