Both Teams Gotta do Monroe for Cousins!

This trade dramatically helps both teams.
US:
Drummond is our C of the future and Monroe just isn't comfortable 15+ feet away from the basket. Cousins is awesome in the paint, but is also comforatable out in the high post. He is a much better fit next to Drummond long-term.
Knight/Bynum
Singler/Stuckey
Prince/Daye
Cousins
Drummond
SACTO:
They rid themselves of Cousins and his "antics" for a player that is much more comfortable staying in the post/paint. He is a much better fit next to a guy like Thomas Robinson long-term.
Thomas/Jimmer
Thornton/Evans
Evans/Salmons
Robinson/Thompson
Monroe

I like Monroe and I think he has a bright future, but if the Kings offered us Cousins I wouldn't hesitate to move Monroe...

I wouldn't do it straight up because of the baggage that Cousins brings. I'd have to have a sweetener with him. Maybe a first rounder with protection or Evans added in with the Pistons sending something back their way.

Always thought cousins was mostly a true center, sizewise. Is he going to be able to stick with the power forwards of the league?

Think I'll wait until the end of next season before deciding if Monroe/Drummond can work. In no big rush to take on a headcase like Cousins no matter how talented he may be.

Not gonna happen. Part of Moose's job is to help mentor Drummond and to be a role model. Won't happen with Cousin's.

Curiously this thread was made after the loss to the Bulls and not after the win against the Magic.

SAC isn't trading Cousins anytime soon. SEA is buying the team and hiring a whole new front office, so its not really up to the Maloofs/Petrie anymore. They are just basically interim right now. Kind of like how Karen couldn't make any trades knowing she was selling to Gores.

Excellent point. It will definitely be up to new ownership to decide what to do with Cousins and it will be a while before that sale is complete.

Cousins may feel more comfortable at range than Monroe, but the stats certainly don't say he's more efficient at range.
I'd rather keep Monroe for now. I'm not ready to give up on the combo myself, and even if I were I'd be looking into other options besides Cousins.

I think OKC would trade Ibaka for Monroe. The main thing keeping them from winning a championship is a consistent inside scoring big. I think exchange Monroe for Ibaka and OKC is a championship team. I don't think they can win it all as currently constructed until they get that scoring big. So thats a realistic trade to me.
From our standpoint, I'm not a huge Ibaka fan, but he really would be a perfect fit next to Drummond on both ends. He's developed a nice jumpshot on offense, and defensively they would dominate. He's not as good a rebounder as Monroe, but with Drummond capable of avg 14-15 rebs/gm once he gets 36-40 min, rebounding wouldnt be an issue. And Ibaka's a solid rebounder anyways, just not elite, but still very good. Plus he'd bring playoff experience and mental toughness.
That would be one trade I'd strongly consider if we're talking about trading Monroe.

^I don't think they would do Ibaka for Moose straight up. Ibaka has upped his scoring to 14ppg and rebounding to 8rpg, which is faaaaaaaaaar more impressive than Moose's 15/9, considering Ibaka is the fourth option behind the best scorer in the league in Durant, Westbrook, and Kevin Martin and Durant/Westbrook are no slouches on the boards. And, of course, his 3 blocks per game...
Stats on a good team are far more impressive/meaningful than putting up stats on a bad team where you are the 1st option. I think we would need to add someone else, or possibly a pick. No chance they do that trade straight up.
As for Moose for Cousins, I agree with Jodi. I wouldn't hesitate to swap Moose for Cousins if given the opportunity. Too much talent to pass up on, and better fit. Cousins is slightly more athletic, a better rebounder, a better post up player, a better defender, and a better mid range shooter regardless of what the percentages say. The only things Moose has on him are a far better attitude and slightly better passing. Cousins is putting up something like 21/12 this month...the guy has a chance to be the best bigman in the league. In fact, if we end up with a pick around 10-12 this year, I would even be willing to include it to get Cousins, and perhaps get a guy like Jason Thompson or Marcus Thornton back in return...just a thought.

That's a reasonable argument...but I'm not sure I'd call Moose our #1 option. We have a pretty balanced attack, when not guard dominated. And you could easily argue he'd get better looks and have better spacing if playing for OKC.
I don't think they do it just because of defensive reasons, but I think Moose would make one hell of a 3rd option on a playoff team. Anyway, not ready to give up on Moose regardless.

Id do Maynor + Ibaka for Bynum + Monroe
How bout this crazy deal?
Monroe + Bynum + Maxiell + Stuckey + Tayshaun + Charlie V
for
Dwight + Steve Blake + Jordan Hill + Jodie Meeks + Earl Clark
Knight / Blake
Meeks / English
Singler / Maggette
Drummond / Hill / JJ
Dwight / Earl Clark
It's a long shot but we could convince Dwight to stay. We could sign Dwight to the max and still have room for a few big free agent signings. If Dwight leaves us high and dry we still got out of Stuckey,CV, and Tay's contracts and gained three decent and cheap young players in Meeks, Hill, Clark for next to nothing. But I think Dwight would stay in Detroit esp with the ability to go after guys like Mayo and even Josh Smith. Imagine a lineup of Knight/Mayo/Smith/Drummond/Dwight with Maynor/Singler/JJ/Clark/Hill.
Lakers try to get Kobe one more ring.
Tayshaun is from LA and starts so that now the Lakers bench looks scary with Bynum/Stuckey/MWP/CV/Maxiell
Monroe should fit in nicely for LA and provide scoring but not demand the ball and whine like Dwight. The beauty of this deal is the Lakers get their franchise center on a rookie contract plus the chance to compete for a title NOW.
Nash / Bynum
Kobe / Stuckey
Tay / MWP
Monroe / CV / Jamison
Gasol / Maxiell

You can look at the other way too, that the reason he's scoring 14 ppg is because of all the attention Durant/Westbrook/Martin get. And could say Monroe's 15 ppg are more impressive because he does it as the #1 option with the defense keyed in on stopping him. Plus, where Ibaka gives you 3 blks, Monroe gives you 3 asts. Like I said it would be a defense for offense trade. So the lack of defense from Monroe wouldn't be an issue I think, because they aren;t getting him for defense. I don't think there's any question that Monroe is a much more talented offensive player than Ibaka. Most of Ibakas pts are putbacks and jumpshots, but Monroe's inside game is more valuable, even if the ppg are similar.
I think with Perkins and their other bigs, and whole defensive system, they would still be able to play great defense with Monroe. And unlike us, they have to 2 superstar scorers, so they don't NEED to be a dominant defense to win championships. They just need to be good defensively, and have balanced inside-out scoring, imo.
Also considr how Monroe is a much better value capwise. He's still on a rookie deal for a few years, whereas Ibaka's big ext of $12 mil/yr starts next year. OKC has a history of trading their young guys right before they are about to get paid. So add all that up and it would be a realistic straight up trade, imo.

I dunno about the actual value, but I think the extension that the Thunder gave Ibaka and the fact that they chose to pay him over Harden speaks volumes about how heavily THEY value him.
Clearly they place a lot of value on his defensive presence and I'd be surprised if they were interested in dealing him for a non-defensive big.

I don't want to trade Monroe, but if we had to the guy I'd want is Aldridge.

this is extremely premature, we aren't even through a full season and/or seen moose/dre combo extensively to make this sort of judgement. Also Cousins brings a looooooot of baggage

The way I think most ppl saw it was they valued keeping their only big man, over keeping a 3rd perimeter scorer (when they already had 2 better ones). So it was more placing a premium on big men over guards, imo. And if they are getting back another big man of the same caliber in Monroe, then it doesn't really change anything, other than they get a big who maybe fits better and provides something they don't currently have - inside scoring.
