Monroe for Smith

I rarely create threads, but just had this idea.
Monroe and Maggette plus (future 1st, Jerebko or Singler) for Josh Smith.
Josh Smith alongside Drummond would be a sick front court for yeeeeaaarrrsss!!!
Hawks get talent back in Monroe to play with Horford at a reduced salary with Maggs coming off the cap this offseason where they can still retool with a more youthful and competitive team.
Win win for everyone. Your Welcome -BMP

I am sure that if Josh Smith is traded anywhere, he will have to agree to sign an extension.

Smith isn't a max player.

No thanks on Smith. I like his game, but I think he relies A LOT on his athleticism. Once that's gone, he's done. In my opinion at least.

Thats what they said about Sheed . . .
Josh Smith and Drummond could be the nucleus towards building a Championship caliber team.

I'd do it but I think you're giving up too much. ATL would have to give a pick, not get one. Moose is a young and budding star without attitude. Smith is a star probably at the pinnacle of his career. I'd love to have him but not throwing in a 1st too!!!

Why not just offer Smith big money this summer and keep Monroe...A Smith/Moose/Penguin front-court would be nice...

Portland is just not trading Aldridge. He is their team. But, Smith is obtainable and is a nice consolation prize.

I would love that deal. But, if Smith is demanding to get traded now, then whomever gets him will probably work in a deal to re-sign him as part of the trade conditions.

4 years/59 mil max in free agency = yes
5 years/close to 100 mil max when you trade for him and extend him = no, thanks

Good point. I don't see Smith wanting to resign with us for anything less than a max contract, which he would be stupid to give him. Technically, we can negotiate a trade in which he signs an extension with us, but the Hawks can't force him to do that against his will. It's still ultimately his decision.
I'd rather keep Moose, who is on a more reasonable deal currently and will likely be signed to something more reasonable in the future.

Atlanta fan here, I come in peace.
I keep hearing from other ATL fans that Joe Dumars loves Josh Smith. Is that even close to being true? Have any of y'all ever heard that?

Hell no, Smith is stuck between a Pf and SF . If we are looking at a PF to pair with DRe. Kevin Love is the only player i'd consider.

Ibaka, LMA, and Horford would all look nice next to Dre as well IMO.

We can just sign him with all this uneeded cap space.

I would riot. Monroe a valuable expiring and a possible future 1st for Josh Smith??? hes a tweener that has a terrible basketball iq and i dont really want any part of him especially when you consider that he is an upcoming free agent who if we really wanted to we could get in FA with our 30+M in cap space. He isnt really anything like Rasheed. Smith relies on his athleticism and he has padded stats because of his ball dominance. If Sheed put hard work into his career hed be one of the GOAT at PF. He was top 3 defener at the position atletic long had a great post game could shoot 3s he could do it all.
Monroe alone is worth more than Smith. People are underestimating the value of a young borderline all star big man on a rookie contract that has great character. How many of those are there left in the league???
Whats with the need to move Monroe. The guy is a more consistent jump shot away from being the perfect fit next to Drummond. no need to trade him.

Would love to see Smith next to Drummond. Would be an awesome combo defensively against any type of offense. With Knight's defense at the one, you are one shut down wing player from having a dominant defensive team.
But I'd wait on Smith. Try to get him in free agency. If you get him, then you can trade Monroe for a wing player. If you go big for smaller, you almost always win the talent end of those trades so Monroe could fetch something really nice.
Smith is not that under-sized as a 4...especially if he's playing next to a guy as big as Drummond.
