Dumars Mysterious Offseason Plan??

Post#1 » by retrolenny » Fri Feb 1, 2013 4:18 pm

I can only assume that Dumars is going to make an ENORMOUS pitch to Chris Paul. It's going to fail because Paul is finally happy but what do you think Dumars has up his sleeve?

I think J SMoothe is the most likely choice (Possibly by the trade deadline) and due to the disaster of BG, OJ Mayo is the least likely to take place. Thoughts??

I don't think we're going to go after Chris Paul...Josh Smith might be realistic but we're going to have to play him at the 3(I know some of you don't like that)...I see Mayo accepting a massive 5 year contract from Cuban...

Smoothe can totally handle the 3 and the 4.

Next year or even at the break!!

Calderon/Knight
Knight
Smoothe, (Singler would be traded if by deadline)
Moose/Smoothe
Dre/Moose

That's a lineup to be reckoned with!!!

It kind of sounds like the Pistons have been interested in Calderon for a while, and that we were likely to pursue him in FA this summer anyways, had we not been able to trade for him. So I think in terms of FA signings we're probably just going to resign Calderon, and maybe sign an additional mid-level guy, if Joe sees someone he REALLY likes. And then just save the rest and wait for teams to start dumping players via tax issues, and we'll get our big name additions through trades.

Its impossible to guess which players that might be, as its too early to know whos going to get dumped

I hope he resigns Calderon then goes after Iguodala or Tyreke Evans

Calderon
Knight
Iggy/Reke
Monroe
Drummond

That's an immediate contender IMO

Get a good 3 and D guy in the 2nd round like Solomon Hill, carrick Felix, or Adreian payne stretch 4
Or even a backup insurance pg Nate Wolters.
Solid Moves.
You need 2-way wings, 2-way shooting bigs, and you can't allow low iq players on the court. Assist/turnover ratio is crucial. Shooting point guards are icing on the cake IF they are plus defenders.
Weaver & Casey, govern yourselves accordingly!

Not saying this is what I want but I see this as the most likely. Sign Josh Smith to play SF. I think he would be fine defensively and our front court would dominate the boards but my problem with him is his offense game. He thinks he is a jump shooter when he isn't. Takes too many bad shots and he isn't all that efficient.

What I want though. I want Joe to take on some bad contracts for picks or young players. (maybe grab Lamb or Jones III from OKC?).

I just want Joe to be smart this time around. Come on Joe!

I agree with this but Joe never seems to do the right thing.

Free agent and even trade movement will be minimal until everyone knows what Chris Paul and Dwight Howard are going to do.

Given that info, I'd expect Dumars to at least make a pitch to one of them (presumably Chris Paul). But yeah, it won't be successful.

The Josh Smith at SF stuff is ridiculous.

It doesn't matter if he could guard some SFs, he is absolutely terrible from the perimeter. He's a straight up PF.

I think we'll try to resign Calderon and Maxiell at less money. If/when Rodney Stuckey doesn't have a major epiphany about his NBA career, I think be moved on. As much as I never thought I would ever say this sentence, "I think the PIstons should go after JJ Reddick." I still think its true. After that, I really have no idea about the draft. And I would like to see the Pistons not blow all their cap space in free agency. I think they would be better off trying to leave some open so they can do trades like what Cleveland got for Jon "*******" Leuer.

Joe is going to sign Monta Ellis. He's had a man crush on him for years now.

Tyreke Evans is a Restricted FA, Sac will match the offer.
Josh Smith is a PF
OJ Mayo will get Big Money from Dallas.
Chris Paul wouldn't leave lob city to play in Detroit.

That line-up is pretty good, I'm still not sure Knight is a starting caliber 2...I guess we'll see soon enough though...

What about Zaza Pachulia as a backup center?

He annoyed the hell out of Drummond the last time they matched up. I bet he could teach him well.

Joe pretty much said that free agency would not be his primary Modus operandi... I could see him spending slightly over the MLE to weed out the competition...
He could talk a GM into a S&T so we can send back some salary....
My gut says he saves a fair amount for next season to cherry pick a tax team...
Other than that just expecting an unbalanced salary trade.

The smart thing to do is fleece teams close to the tax threshold...

Look what Cleveland did to/for Memphis!

Paying the tax now and in the future is a lot of worse than it used to be... and here comes Good Ol' Joe to do you a favour... the Sportsmanship Award is named after him FFS!

Joe will take one salary off your books... and all you have to do is throw in a future first round pick or a young prospect!

That's the way to go...

Chris Paul? LMAO! I seriously doubt the thought even entered Joe's head! Who leaves LA to play in Detroit? Who leaves money on the table to go from LA to Detroit?

^I had completely forgotten about the money side of things in terms of Paul resigning with the Clippers.

Of course, I saw the notion as blatantly absurd even before that realization. I'm sure Dumars knows full well that it can't and won't happen.

If it did it would be the most absurd player move in NBA history.

Hopefully his off-season plan includes flipping Stuckey and Villanueva's expiring contracts.

I wish we could trade for Gallinari. I would love to get him, even moreso than guys like Mayo or Gordon.
