Use our 3 draft picks to get whatever NOH want for Eric Gordon.
Amnesty CV.
Trade cap space + the 3 picks for Eric Gordon.
Resign Calderon starting at 7 million/year.
Sign Al-Farouq Aminu starting at 4-5 million.
Assuming Chicago Amnesty Boozer, offer him the rest of our cap space 7-8 million.
Andre Drummond (32) / Slava Kravtsov
Greg Monroe (32) / Carlos Boozer (32) / Jonas Jerebko
Al-Farouq Aminu (24) / Kyle Singler (24) / Khris Middleton
Eric Gordon (32) / Rodney Stuckey / Kim English
Jose Calderon (32) / Brandon Knight (32)

We lose 3 draft picks for Eric Gordon, who has been a little b* ever since going to NOH. Additionally he is way overpaid and seems to be injury prone. Report has it that he was cleared to play for both LAC and NOH but he wanted his own doctors(that he pays) to determine when he's healthy. While i like E.Gordon ,i'm not willing to sacrifice that much for him at this point in time
Calderon for 7mil. i think is way to much if its a 2 year type deal , fine but i think he's looking for his last contract. Also i don't like the idea of him being our PG moving forward after this season. i'm still on the knight bandwagon. i do like him, but as a mentor to knight rather than hindering knights development at point.
Aminu is a role player at best, he has ton of potential however so did daye. If he's dirt cheap and can at least be a defense stopper. i'd take a chance. highly athletic, just needs to put it together
Boozer!? that's where you lost me. Talk about a absolute POS. Horrible on the defensive end, highly inconsistent, and lacks the ability to impact games. Boozer can't carry a team on his back, he disappears too often. I'd rather go after Al Jefferson or paul milsap or Josh Smith if we are looking at undersized PF's(well not AJ)
i really think we are going to see a lot of teams dumping players after this season, its better for us to just wait and see whats available. if this is it. we are screwed

so you've chosen to invest the majority of our cap space in the injury prone Gordon and the aging Boozer?
Why?
Could we not get J.J Redick without giving up 3 picks?
Could we not get Paul Millsap for close to the same money you're giving Boozer here?
Calderon is a great signing... and I can see why we'd go after Aminu... but giving up 3 picks and space for Eric Gordon given his injuries isn't a great option IMO
Assuming we amnesty CV we'd have approx $35 mil in cap space (also assumes we let our free agents walk)
Assume our pick eats $2.5 mil of that...and we drafted a SF
I'd give Calderon 3 years/24 mil contract - $8 mil per season flat ($10.5 spent)
I'd offer Redick 3 years/24 mil contract - $8 mil per season flat ($18.5 spent)
I'd offer Millsap 3 years/$30 mil contract - $10 mil per season flat (28.5 spent)
That's it... DONE!
Drummond/Monroe/Slava
Monroe/Millsap/Jerebko
Rookie/Singler/Middleton
Knight/Redick/English
Calderon/Knight
Look to trade Stuckey next season for another big man... hope the rookie SF and Singler improve throughout the season... hope Knight learns "enough" from Calderon
Drummond 30/Monroe 18 - Slava is depth.
Monroe 16/Millsap 32 - Jerebko is depth
Rookie/Singler combine to play 48 - Middleton is depth and Stuckey/Redick could log some minutes here
Knight 10/Redick 28/English 10 - Stuckey gets the "showcase" treatment
Calderon 28/Knight 20
Only 13 players... ideally the 14th man would be a back-up PG... give Terrence Williams the spot... 3 years $3 mil
I spent $31.5 mil on our rookie SF, Millsap, Calderon, Redick and Terrence Williams... save the remaining space for the following off-season when Stuckey can GTFO and we give Monroe huge money...
Long term Millsap, Calderon and Redick (combine for $26 mil) would expire and Drummond would get his pay day!
Goodbye Rodney Stuckey - I'd like to say it was great to have you on the team... but it wasn't

Eric Gordon is 10 times the player J.J. Redick will ever be. And 2 of those picks are 2nd round picks one which is a top 55 protected.
Knight on my plan is what Redick is in yours. A shooter/scorer off the bench. Eric Gordon is a more complete player and more suitable to start. Is he overpaid? Yes but he is a top 5 SG in this league and I'd trust Kander to keep him healthy.
Pharaoh wrote:Could we not get Paul Millsap for close to the same money you're giving Boozer here?
Paul Millsap will command more than that and more important, Millsap will be allowed to chose where he play, he will not come to Detroit if he has similar offers from more attractive markets.
Since Boozer is being claimed off amnesty, the highest bid gets him, he has no say.
Other than that, Boozer is a fantastic pic and roll player, he was way better than Millsap in Utah and I think pairing up Boozer and Calderon would be unstopable.
Boozer is still a great player, the problem is he is being paid too much, if we can get him for ~half of what he is paid he is a big time steal and a great way to use our cap space imo.

I agree 100% with you here.

I would like this a lot more if we gave NOH 2 of our picks and Stuckey for Gordon -- keeping apick and a lot of the salary cap difference.
Then instead of Boozer, I'd go after Aminu and Earl Clark.
Also not sure I'd want Calderon back for the price tag he'll want. Remember, we need to save some salary for the time Moose and the rest of the youngsters statrt getting increases/extensions.
Of vourse, a lot of this can change depending on what we do on or before the deadline this season....

Just awful. I'm not giving up 3 picks for Eric Gordon. I'd rather max Josh Smith than sign Milsap and Boozer. I think the Pistons if they use cap space need to acquire Danny Granger. He fits a need and could be had. You add Granger to Monroe, Knight, Calderon (resigned), and Drummond. You have your playoff roster.

1. We're not going to amnesty Charlie V, can we please forget that buffoonery...
2. Yeah, I'm down to trade our 3 draft picks for Eric Gordon...When Eric Gordon is going he's a top 5 SG in the league...
3. Re-sign Calderon for 7mil??? Man, hell no!!. I'd re-sign Calderon for 5mil and have him play 6th man behind Knight...
3. Aminu isn't a starting type player, just watch a Hornets game...I'd rather go after Wilson Chandler
4. If the Bulls amnestied Boozer I think he would be a good big coming off our bench...That wouldn't be a bad idea at all...

2 of the draft picks are 2nd rounders. Not a huge deal.
That said, mayo + our lotto pick > eric gordon
Id give Calderon 3 years 15mill

Eric Gordon is not a top SG in the game. You're crazy if you believe that. I'll take Wade, Kobe, James Harden, Paul George, Klay Thompson, Aaron Afflalo, and Joe Johnson all over him.

I'd rather draft BPA, resign Calderon, add inexpensive, short term depth, and hang onto what's left in cap space then blow nearly $30M per year on Gordon, Aminu and Boozer.

Yeah, I'll take Wade, Kobe, Harden over Gordon...But Paul George is really a SF, Klay Thompson isn't an efficient shooter(he's a good 3pt shooter) and he doesn't get to the free throw line, Joe Jo is really overpaid, and Aaron Afflalo isn't a go-to-guy...E. Gordon could be the guy we give the ball to in the clutch and Gordon is an underrated defender...A Knight/Gordon back-court could really stretch the floor for us...

How's Granger's defense? I haven't watched him play much at all, and I can't find any videos of his defense. His shooting percentages are crazy good though. Just offensively I'd love to have him at SF. If he plays good defense too then Granger would be an amazing fit. Singler would be great as the backup SF too.

Granger would be a good "team leader", and an definite upgrade at SF. But is there much upside there?

He would bring wing scoring. He is a clear upgrade defensively. Solid rebounder for the position. High b-ball IQ. He'd be a perfect fit for us.

I'd basically go this route for the offseason:
Buy Out Stuckey if he can't be deal.
Renouce Rights to Corey Maggette, Jason Maxiell, and Will Bynum
Resign Jose Calderon to 4 years at an average of 5 to 6 mill is fair
Trade Brandon Knight and Jonas Jerebko for Danny Granger (Pacers gain 8 mill in cap space and a good young combo guard while Pistons get a go to scorer and move Jerebko)
Sign Raja Bell to a 2 year 1.5 mill per year deal with the second a team option
Sign Samuel Dalembert to a 3 year deal at 3 million per year
Draft Michael Carter Williams (Poteintal PG of the future)
Roster:
G Jose Calderon
G Raja Bell
F Danny Granger
F Greg Monroe
C Andre Drummond
Rotation:
Michael Carter-Williams (PG/SG)
Kyle Singler (SF/SG)
Charlie Villanueva (PF/C)
Samuel Dalembert (C)
Bench Warmers:
Khris Middleton
Kim English
Victor Krastov
2013 Second Round Pick
The new roster is clear upgraded defensively. Good three point shooting in the back-court. Granger, Drummond, and Bell are all great defenders. This roster would win 44-50 games in the 2013/2014 season.

Nice plan Detroit Don. Only thing I would change is to win the lottery as well

As for previous comments on Boozer, he's good but always seems to be overpaid, which makes him seem less valuable. If he does get amnestied, highest bidder gets him, and Chicago pays the difference of his original salary and what we would pay him. If we can get him for 3 mil a year, that would be a great deal, except we have to consider what it does for minutes at PF.

The point is that he would play 15-20 minutes a game in the mold of Bruce Bowen or Thabo Sefalosha. A guy who can hit and up three and play good defense. He'd also ad veteran leadership which this team needs alot of.
