Team Needs and Targets.

Post#1 » by jaredtyshaf » Wed Feb 13, 2013 6:30 pm

The way I see it is that the Pistons have 4 major needs to address this offseason. Starting SG and SF and backups at G and PF/C.
Here is our roster before addressing those needs this offseason.
PG: Knight
SG: Vacant
SF: Vacant
PF: Monroe
C: Drummond

Backup G: Vacant
Backup SF: Singler
Backup PF/C: Vacant

Bench: Jerebko, Middleton, English, Kravtsov
Most likely gone: Stuckey and CV

Here are the top targets to fill those needs.

SG:
Draft:
1. McLemore
2. Oladipo
3. Shabazz
4. MCW (Combo)

Free Agency:
1. Iggy
2. OJ
3. Redick
4. Tyreke

SF:

Draft:
1. Otto Porter
2. Shabazz
3. Poythress
4. Robinson III

Free Agency:
1. Josh Smith (I am one of the few that think he can pull off SF)
2. Iggy
3. Tyreke
4. Aminu
5. AK47

Back Up G:

Free Agency:
1. Billups
2. Jose Calderon
3. Gerald Henderson

Back Up PF/C

Free agency
1. Milsap
2. Earl Clark
3. Dalembert

Calderon will be the starter next season if brough back. Knight will either be the SG or sixth man next season.

I'm hoping we trade some combination of Bynum, Maxiell, Stuckey for a young wing this season before the deadline.

2013 lotto pick to get the other wing.

Knight
deadline trade or lottery pick
lottery pick or deadline trade
Monroe
Drummond

FA targets: PG Maynor, SG Lance Stephenson, SF Al-Farouq Aminu, and PF Earl Clark

FINAL ROSTER:
Knight / Maynor
Stephenson / trade or lottery / Middleton
Aminu / trade or lottery / Singler
Monroe / Clark / CV
Drummond / Monroe / Kravtsov

Here are 2 different types of Pistons teams I would like to see...

*Playoff potential
Knight/Calderon
Ellis/Knight
Smith/Singler/Lotto Pick
Bullwinkle/Smith
Penguin/Bullwinkle/Dalembert

or

*Young and dangerous
Knight/Calderon
Shabazz(Is this Jodi's draft prediction? :dontknow: )/Knight
Wesley Johnson or Aminu/Singler
Bullwinkle/Millsap
Penguin/Bullwinkle/Zaza

Assuming we can't sucker anyone into taking Jonas's contract....

Amenstying CV31 and cutting Stuckey with the $4.5 mil guarantee

Drummond- ~$3
Monroe- ~$3.5
Knight- ~$3
Jerebko- $4.5
Singler- $1
Krav- $1.5
Middleton- $.5
English- $.5
Draft Pick- ~$3
Stuckey's spot- $4.5

Salary - $25 mil

That leaves roughly $30 mil in cap room

4 year $60 mil deals to Josh Smith & Iguodala, bring back Big Ben & Chauncey

Draft BPA

Knight/Chauncey
Iguodala/(Knight)/English
Smith/(Iguodala)/Singler
Monroe/(Smith)/Jerebko
Drummond/(Monroe)/Ben/Krav

Now before everyone responds "Smith isn't a 3" please understand simple mathematics. There are 48 minutes in a basketball game. No one plays 48 minutes. That leaves plenty of time to play Smith at the 4 with Monroe or Drummond at the 5 and someone resting. The above team would be a deep and flexible squad who could play in any style and defend like few other teams.

If we are going to be an elite team, I'd like to consider Knight as our backup guard for both positions, and us still in need of a starting PG and starting SG.

Not gonna happen but hey, what is a message board without a few crazy fantasy land ideas?

PG: Knight
SG: Mayo
SF: Iguodala
PF: Monroe
C: Drummond

PG: Calderon
SG: McLemore
SF: Singler
PF: Hmm... Villanueva/Jerebko
C: Hmm... Dalembert/Pachulia

Disappointing but still an improvement
Calderon/knight
Oladipo/Stuckey
Singler/Jerebko
Monroe/brandan wright
Drummond/kravtsov

Realistic based on draft position and expiring contracts with no further trades:
Calderon/Knight
Oladipo/Stuckey
Singler/Jerebko
Moose/Josh Smith (ok slightly stretchy but hey we got room)
Drummond/kravtsov

Dream Scene after trading Stuckey & Max for extra draft pick and resigning Calderon & Bynum
Calderon/Bynum
Tyreke/Knight
Porter/Singler
Monroe/tony Mitchell
Drummond/kravtsov
You need 2-way wings, 2-way shooting bigs, and you can't allow low iq players on the court. Assist/turnover ratio is crucial. Shooting point guards are icing on the cake IF they are plus defenders.
Weaver & Casey, govern yourselves accordingly!

Like I said in other the other thread.

Trade Knight/CV for Afflalo and a player or pick.

Sign Josh Smith.

Sign Kaman

Resign Bynum and Calderon

Your Pistons:

Calderon/Bynum/Stuckey

AA/Stuckey/Singler

Josh Smith/Singler

Monroe/JJ/This years 1st Round Lottery Pick

Drummond/Kaman

Total Domination.

Judging by where we stand in the lottery right now. I'm looking at Porter as our best option. If we can snatch someone else's first rounder and get Oladipo/McCollum I'll be happy too.

if Portland ends up looking to move Wes Matthews contract this off season I think he would be a good get.

Am I the only person who wants Tyreke? I think his skillset fits perfectly next to Knights, and if he can get to his potential he'd be a great weapon at shooting guard. He is playing on a shamble of a Kings team. I'd like to see if we can sign him for around 30/4, then we need to get a sharp shooting small forward. At the least, a Knight Tyreke backcourt has great defensive potential.

hes not the greatest shooter, which this team needs and he has some chucker tendencies. I wouldnt mind having him as a combo off the bench (if we didnt already have BK) but I wouldnt want him starting, with Moose and Dre down low there wouldnt be any room in the lane for him to work.

SG and SF

though i really think Singler and Middleton are the FO's plan for SF . i'd like to see a scoring SF. though those are hard to find.

SG, i'd ideally like to see Eric Gordon, Iggy, Monta Ellis, Granger. If GS is really interested in EG, Klay thompson is someone i would love

Might be a fluke, if not he is a perfect fit.
