I was searching on the internet to find out what high school players have entered the NBA draft and came across Amir Johnson. I was shocked to find that he was only 25 years old. Doesn't it feel like he should be in his 30's?

It feels like he's been around forever. Did he declare in the womb?

He was drafted when he was 18, so its not surprising that he's just now entering into his prime. Its a shame we didn't hold onto him instead of trading him for Oberto. We need to be more patient with our draft picks. He's a very productive backup big, which was great value for a pick in the late 50s

idk, he's ok, but he's just a role player and role players are always revolving. Sure he panned out to be better than his draft position would indicate, but there's only 15 spots on the roster. Its impossible to be patient with every draft pick, because there's just not enough room to keep them all. And the ones who are just role players, I have no issue trading them because they can always easily be replaced.

We need to be patient with our draft picks who have star potential, but no need to be extra patient and taking up roster spots just to wait for role players to develop.

his contract is higher than his value too, but what big man do we not have to say that for? the market is inflated for anyone, actually. i wasnt a fan of getting rid of him either. i wish we kept him. hed be a nice third big off the bench for us now too.

ill never forget his post game interviews lol. him and michael curry..someone needed to teach them how to speak english. "amir how would you describe your play tonight?" "i hustled. ya know, hustle plays. hustled. i just hustle". lol

I wouldn't say the Pistons were too impatient with him, and don't recall anyone barking much about that when he got traded.

He was another guy like Affalo, Darko, and so on that was never really given a chance cause of the big 5.

Arron played 149 out of 162 games with the Pistons, and averaged 17 minutes a game in his 2nd season. Amir started 24 games in the lockout shortened season of 08-09, he did almost nothing. This was after we signed him to a 3 year/$11 mil contract.

Darko. I realize that some of you may never have actually seen him play. He was terrible and had no motivation. Players drafted 2nd overall that are 7'0" 275 Lbs don't play for 6 teams over 10 seasons if they have value.

I still don't think much of him. He is soft and now that he has a few games where he gets over 10 boards playing for a bad team, everyone thinks he is all of a sudden good. They fail to see that more often than naught, he is grabbing under 6 boards per game.

The reason I joined RealGM was to find a place to complain and my first post was a new thread entitled something like,"Why the hell did Pistons draft Darko?" and I was lambasted by just about everyone here and I think you were a Darko lover too?

 This is nonsense. Hes averaging 8 boards per game in 28 minutes. Obviously he has some games where he grabs under 6 rebounds, but thats not the norm. Hes an average rebounder, but a good defender and solid shot blocker. Hed easily be our 3rd best bigman

Additionally, I recall a lot of people being perturned that we traded Amir for Oberto, especially when we signed Chris Wilcox with the freed up salary. 2009 was just a bad year for Joe D.

Back when Toronto was a playoff team, Amir barely got off the bench.

are you just trying to sour grape him?

Amir's turned out to be a pretty solid role player..his role's a glue guy, like a big man version of Battier. Raptor fans tout him as one of their best players. Nobody's expecting him to be a star.

ok, are you aware that Amir Johnson was never on a Raptors team that made the playoffs? And that 18mpg was the lowest amount of game time he ever got for the Raps per season. I certainly wouldn't qualify that as "barely got off the bench".

Not sure what your issue is with Amir but he's clearly a solid bigman

Just chiming in.

Amir has basically turned into our Udonis Haslem for our team. Much more valuable to us than to any other team. He's been one of the most improved players since December this year and has even received a "bit" of consideration for player of the week. Obviously Lebron James won those.

People laughed at the contract but, now it's looking like a complete bargain considering a below average big, can still net the MLE.

Back when Toronto was a playoff team, Amir Johnson still played for you guys.

All right. Amir rules. Lets throw a 4 years $40 mil at him.

I would still probably take back Max at 3 years $12 mil than give Amir the $6 or 7 mil per year he will ask for.

He had a big issue with foul trouble early. He was always productive even when he first got here but couldnt stay on the court.

Amir is probably our best player and is more than worth his contract. That being said, when a solid, unspectacular role player like Amir is your best guy, you know you're destined to be terrible.
