Ballsy by Frank. I liked how he to scapegoated Dumars before Joe once again scapegoated the coach for his own failings.

Gores should have told Frank, "uh, you better quit then, Larry!"

The best news is its going to save Gores 4 mil in Frank's salary next yr if he resigns. Which is 4 mil more to offer the next coach to get the best we can buy

@ Combo

Not if he resigns/quits, correct?

Maybe this is Frank's way of forcing a firing faster so he can go to Rutgers.

Unless I missed something Frank did not say he was going to resign. He said either pick up my option or fire me now. Either way, he's getting his money. But good for him taking a stand and not wanting to come back as a lame duck. Best thing for everybody involved is if that is a commitment one way or the other.

How? Gores hasn't fired him yet and Frank just came out and essentially said he's resigning.

Gores may still be generous and honor the contract, but legally if an employee requests to be let go, the owner doesn't owe him anything, afaik

That 4th yr is a team option. Frank can't blackmail the owner into changing the contract. He just resigned and gave up his salary next year, thats what it sounds like to me.

He didn't resign. He's just making demands at this point. Its like a football player demanding a new contract in the offseason and threatening to hold out until he gets one. That, in itself, doesn't make said player a FA - just like Frank is still our coach until he officially resigns or is fired.

^We'll see. It sounds to me like he ASKED to be let go, if the owner doesnt change his contract. Gores isn't required to change that option. So if he declines and grants Franks request to be let go, that's not firing him, thats Frank resigning. Gores will only owe him money if he fires him.

You can't ask to be fired and then still get paid

Anytime you force an owners hand it's a death wish... he must have another offer.. can stay home with his wife.

He'll just come back and coach. I guarantee he'll get his money.

He did no such thing. You are making up your own version of events here to suit what you would like to see happen. But that doesn't make it true or accurate.

Odds are though Gores won't want to get into a long drawn legal battle over this, while eager to get started on the next coaching hire, and will just fire him to make it as fast as possible.

Plus it won't look good to potential coaching candidates if Gores doesn't pay him, even if there's a loophole to get out of paying.

Common theme with Goldtop today should be "keep it REAL, bro" with an emphasis on REAL (or reality).
