Nate McMillan has emerged as the front-runner to become the next head coach of the Detroit Pistons, according to sources.
The Pistons want a proven coach and have targeted McMillan, who has coached the Seattle SuperSonics and most recently the Portland Trail Blazers.
McMillan has an overall record of 478-452, with his teams going 14-20 in the playoffs. He has also been an assistant coach with Team USA under Mike Krzyzewski, when the U.S. won gold medals in Beijing in 2008 and London in 2012.
Lawrence Frank was fired by the Pistons last week.
i see this as another Frank situation. He's a little more proven, but still hasn't accomplished sH*. rather go after hollins

This is the same guy who said last week that Dumars would be fired. So I'm not taking his word this time.
If Dumars does hire McMillan though, he should be fired.
A .500 coach with a sub-.500 playoff record and 1 playoff series win in his career. Yay. #Dynasty

Agreed. McMillan is basically the Westcoast "Frank"

Grizzlies fans don't like Hollins.
I mean, he played Keyon Dooling more than Tony Allen in Game 1 vs. the Clippers.

To be fair Nate milked what he could. The Blazers were an injured wreck when he was there.

There is no comparison to Frank and McMillan. Nate is head and shoulders above McMillan in every facet of the game. Mcmillan was scape goated in Portland because Roy/Oden/Aldridge all suffered injuries and Pritchard overrated his young players until they had no worth. Nate was fired midseason with a 23-20 record, that is ridiculous in my book.
Nate knows how to win with young players, this would be Joe's best hire since Saunders.

He took an 8th seed within 1 win from WCF in 2010, beating the #1 seeded Spurs and almost beating the Thunder too.
His teams have top defenses every year, and this year coached Gasol into the Defensive Player of the Year. Imagine what he could do with Drummond.
McMillan's last playoff series win was in 2005. Not much different than Frank.
Hollins will be available because his contract is up. So we will have a chance to make an offer, and it would be worth it to wait. There's a reason you don't hear McMillan's name for any other job. Because no one wants him. Meaning he will still be there a month from now, if we can't get Hollins.

Blazer fan here and after years of putting up with McMillan and his "coaching" I would say he is about the worst coach your team could hire. You have two potentially great young bigs he would absolutely misuse. He does not like low post offense so their roles on offense will either become perimeter oriented or garbage men. On defense Nate loves to switch. This means Drummond would often end up defending the other teams pg 20 ft from the basket. Furthermore prepare to become a verrrryy slow paced team because Nate does not believe in the running game. That and more is what you would face if he becomes your coach

Hmm...I like McMillian, but I'm really starting to like this Obradovic guy as well...

^When you have two bigs, you don't run. You play a grind it out half court offense and use your size to your advantage. Teams can play small ball when everybody is playing iso run and gun.

Dude you are now severely overrating Hollins.

He didn't get fired because of the teams record, he got fired because of a munity in the locker room.

Don't love it, don't hate it.
Nate isn't my first choice and I'm curious to see who the other serious candidates may be, but we could do worse. We have done worse.

He was actually 20-23 when he got fired, and was coming off 3 straight years of losing in the 1st round. Far from ridiculous and totally justifiable imo.
How does he know how to win with young players when he never got out of the 1st round?
Ironic you compare him to Saunders because he lost 3 straight years in game 6 of the ECF and was then fired, and McMillan lost 3 straight years in game 6 of the 1st round and was then fired.
Neither are good coach's, imo.

Not true.
This is a great writeup (
http://www.oregonlive.com/blazers/index ... nce_p.html) on the reasons why McMillan was let go

All I did was list Hollins accomplishments like Kilo asked. How is that severly overrating him?

only reason i like hollins> McMillan is because hollins has turned the Griz into one of the better defensive teams in the west. If we are going to start winning, we need to start doing it through defense.
