PoP's Current Offseason Plan

Coach Pistons hire Nate McMillan. Detroit goes with the safe hire who can build off of his accomplishments Portland but this time with a healthy team.
Draft
#7- SG- Kentavious Caldwell Pope
#24- SF- Sergay Karasev (Pistons trade #38 , #56 and Cash Considerations to the Knicks for #24. Pistons get a solid prospect while the Knicks save $$)
The focus on the draft should be to collect solid 2 way wing players that can shoot the basketball. Both Caldwell-Pope and Karasev fit that bill perfectly.
Trades
Detroit trades Rodney Stuckey/Kyle Singler to New Orleans for Eric Gordon/2014 2nd Rounder.
Detroit wont be able to compete without a star level perimeter player. EG should be our number 1 trade target. EG is a gamble due to a history of injury, but he's a gamble worth taking considering that he's an effective 20ppg scorer, when healthy. New Orleans cuts their ties with EG for an expiring Rodney Stuckey and an upgrade at SF in Kyle Singler.
Free Agency
PG: Jarret Jack- 3/15 deal. We need a backup PG that can both pass the ball but also wont be a pylon on defense. Jack would also provide us with veteran leadership.
SF:Corey Brewer- 4/25 deal. Brewer becomes our complimentary SF that can play defense and make a shot. And, he's still young enough to fit with our core.
PF: Brandon Wright- 3/12 deal. Wright becomes our niche shot blocker off the bench, he can complete a primary 3 bigman rotation with Monroe/Drummond.
2013-2014 Detroit Pistons
Brandon Knight/Jarret Jack
Eric Gordon/Kentavious Caldwell-Pope/Kim English
Corey Brewer/Khris Middleton/Sergey Kaserav
Greg Monroe/Brandon Wright/Jonas Jerebko/Charlie Villanueva
Andre Drummond/Slava Kravstov
We have a go to scoring threat in Eric Gordon, solid scoring backup wings in KCP and KM. We get a backup PG in Jack who can both pass and shoot the basketball without being a complete liability on defense. We also add a young PF in Wright who can alter shots in the paint and help our defense.
This is a young athletic and versatile team that should at the very least compete for a playoff spot. But how far they truly go depends on the growth of Andre Drummond and Greg Monroe.

I like your Nate McMillian hire, sounds like a safe plan...Your roster looks good, but if we pick-up KCP in the draft I wouldn't trade for EG but I would spend money on a starting caliber SF(trade for Wilson Chandler or sign Iggy)... I don't know anything about Sergery Kaserav....Everything else sounds good though...

If Jack wont come here then PG- Eric Maynor is my next choice, and he will be significantly cheaper. He's also a good passer and shooter. I also like Collison as a backup. I prefer all of these guys to Jose Calderon. We cant have anyone on the team who is an atrocious defender if we want to be a competitive team.

I think Brewer is a starting caliber SF. He's a guy who can come in as a starter and play great perimeter defense and he doesn't need the ball in his hand to be effective. I envision Brewer playing 25mpg with Khris Middleton getting the rest of the minutes at SF. I really like KM and think he is a more capable wing player than Singler. I would like to see him given an opportunity to be a regular contributor to the team.
As for Sergey- he's actually my favorite Euro prospect in the draft and is underrated as far as Im concerned. He's a 2/3 who can really shoot and score the ball. Additionally, he's got great court vision and is a good passer. He's not a great athlete but it doesn't limit him too much defensively, he should be able to hold his own. I think he could be a very good starting SF down the line. I would love to get late pick to get him if we go with a guard in the top 10.

I think that Joe needs to be ambitious and "swing for the fences" with the next coach he hires and I don't think McMillan fits that bill. I'm interested in the Euro guy and Lionel Hollins if he is available. Jack would be very good but it's pretty unrealistic that he comes to Detroit so as you said I think Maynor would be a suitable backup PG. I don't watch much college ball but from what I know I think I'd prefer to draft Oladipo or Shabazz with #7. Eric Gordon is a big risk but we're not losing much if we can get him for only Stuck/Singler I'd definitely do the deal, if he can stay healthy he would be a perfect go-to-scorer. Nice plan.

Since Jack has just said he wants to return to GSW. Eric Maynor and Darren Collison become my top 2 backup PG targets for the team.
But the bottom line for my plan still stands. if we are going to keep Knight at PG, which I think we should, then he needs to be backed up by a true passing PG.
I don't feel like we need to sign any named players that don't fit like Josh Smith, Paul Milsap, Monta Ellis, etc.. We need a stud 20ppg scorer on the wing, a defensive glue guy that can hit the 3, and a 3rd bigman that can play some D.
As for McMillan v. Euro Coach- I prefer to have a coach that the players can actually relate to and buy into. I do not believe that they would take to Obredovic so easily.

Realistic plan... if we can get Eric Gordon for that package then we should jump at the chance...
I don't know much about the Draft outside of Olapido, Porter, Bazz and Burke so I'll leave it to others to assess your choice. 2 wings that can shoot is fine by me though I wonder if they'd impact Middleton, who you want to play a more significant role next season.
Not a fan of adding Brandon Wright as our 3rd big - just don't think he's "enough" considering we'd only have Jerebko, CV and Slava to back up Monroe, Drummond and Wright - that is why I went for Millsap and I do believe he would fit... agree that Josh Smith or Monta Ellis wouldn't though
Jack won't come here unless he seriously outbid GSW... Maynor or Collison to back up Knight doesn't get me excited, though I like Maynor as a prospect.
You've constructed a young team with serious potential, versatility and flexibility , I just worry that it's too young.
Nate over Obradovic is a logical choice since one is essentially an unknown while the other at least has NBA experience. Can't fault anyone for wanting to avoid Obradovic regardless of my personal choice of "swinging for the fences"
In the end it's a good plan... and again I hope Joe can construct a better team than any we can come up with on here. After all, he's paid millions to do so

I don't think Jack or Collison would have any interest in coming here to be a backup to Brandon Knight. If they did sign, it's probably b/c they think that they have a good shot at starting. Only PG's I am comfortable committing long term $$ to are Teague and CP3. That is why I am looking at Burke in the draft.
Signing EG is a crapshoot. In my opinion, Knight (who is the same height as EG) is just as likely to be an efficient 20PPG scorer. If we are looking to buy low on a player that was good 2 years ago, I'd rather target Granger b/c worst case it's a 1 year mistake instead of a 3 year mistake and Granger would expire same time as Stuck and CV giving flexibility in a year that we may not have a pick.
Brewer is a solid defender but he can't shoot. He could start, but you'd have to surround him with 4 really good players. I think it's unrealistic to take 3 guys that weren't quality starters this year (Knight, EG, Brewer) and expect them to be quality starters next year.

Awful FA signings. We should draft burke and move Knight tot he sixth man role. He is the next Jason Terry. We gotta except that. I'm ok with adding Gordon but DNP-CV goes in the deal or talks stop.
