BMP Offseason Plan

I keep it simple. No explanation needed.
1) Get your coach: Obradovic
2) At the first moment of Free Agency go all out and offer Josh Smith Max contract for 4 years.
3) Amnesty CV
4) Go after Kaman for around 7 or 8 mil as a backup
5) Resign Calderon for around 5-7 mil as a backup
6) Draft Shabbaz or Olidapo if Bazz is taken
7) Find a way to move Stuckey for cap space
8) Sign Tony Allen for 7-8 mil
9) Resign Max for $3 mil per (He is on decline)
Yer Team:
Knight/Jose
Tony Allen/Bazz
Josh Smith/Bazz/Jonas
Monroe/Max/Jonas
Drummond/Kaman/Krav
Pistons = World Domination.

Smith is going to command about $16,000,000 per year.
Do not amnesty CV yet. By February his contract might fetch a first round pick or could be packaged to bring something good. Then again I am going to assume that the amnestying CV would allow the cash for Krman. And I doubt Maxiell will be a Piston next season.

If the Pistons could get Allen and Kaman, then I reckon that $16m for Smith will work out fine. And, if Max isn't signing for $3 mil per, then I am sure the Pistons could find a different backup with that kind of money.

I know the money will be there for most if not all these signings. I am just hoping we could milk the hell out of CV’s contract. Teams are going to want cap relief very soon.

I always get confused on people not wanting Andre Iguodala because he's too old but Tony Allen keeps getting brought up and he's 2 years older. I can understand if the reasoning behind it is the money difference, but normally what I read is the A.I.'s age and how he's too old for our young core. I can see A.I. being a great defender at SF and also helping with Knight running the offense and taking pressure off of him.

That is what we thought would happen with Max and Bynum. But, we still couldn't move them. I seriously doubt the Pistons can ever move CV. Might as well Amnesty in that case.

I admire Iggy, but he will command more than he is worth. I see no use in overpaying someone who is on the decline. In a year or two Iggy will be around TP's level in the 30's, then he will be making more than what we were paying TP at that age. Not worth it.

Terrible floor spacing, which is not good for any team, especially Obradovic's team.

You are looking at one of the top defensive teams in the NBA right there. Defense wins championships. Offense will come through a system. Obradovic's genius is taking the talent he has and creating an offense that suits players abilities.

Great defense, I'm giving you that and you're right about defense winning championships. No arguement. The thing is we watched Indiana and Memphis this season and they are not going to win it all, which is okay btw, is this a lot better than what they got? They also have more attacking power and better fit offensively.
Obradovic's genius but he also usually had good fit squad. I don't think he had a squad (or Panathinaikos squad, I'm more aware of his PAO career) that he had to attack to rim that much. He had bigs that can shoot threes next to an inside presence, ran pick&roll, had SG/SF as floor generals who could do anything on offense (other was usually a good spotup shooter, can rebound, pass and defend), ran SG around screens. Lots of different play styles around his career and as far as I could remember your team didn't look similar with any of his teams.

My retort, you have to start somewhere. And, if you do not go for broke right off the bat and build a team committed to defense and working within a system on offense, then you will get stuck in the middle of the pack.
And, who says Indiana and Memphis won't win a Championship "Some Day." Because, you have to start somewhere and build a team while it doesn't happen over night. Both teams are in a prime position to either move forward or backwards in the future. Actually, Indiana is in a great position to actually be capable of adding to that roster.
It takes years. Pistons didn't win either of their championships until they were a good 5 years into the building process. The ideas I proposed would put the Pistons into a quicker rebuild and that roster is not set in stone because Detroit could always find the next Rasheed down the road.

I'd rather go after Paul Milsap than Josh Smith. I just don't see Smith coming, and he is as unworthy for a max contract as they come.
Also, I'd rather draft Caldwell-Pope at this point rather than Shabazz.
Outside of that...I do agree with most of your plan.

Milsap and Caldwell could be nice backup plans.

I'm not on board with signing an Euro coach, I don't see how he can relate to our players... I like your plan though...I personally would like to sign Millsap or Bynum(yes Andrew Bynum) instead of Josh Smith...Tony Allen would be a nice pick-up, I think we could get him for less than 7mil...Everything else is cool...

I like it apart from J-Smoove. IMO he simply won't fit in Detroit, that team would be great defensively but Smoove's jumper just isn't consistent enough for him to play at SF, the spacing would be atrocious. Plus I don't think he is worth the max, he relies on his athleticism and that will decline as he ages. But I'd love to sign Tony Allen, draft Shabazz and Calderon and Kaman would be great if we can sign them as backups.

i don't like the idea of signing Smith. He isn't a SF and he has a very questionable shot selection.
I don't like the fit. We need a guy with a good outside shot with solid D to fit into the team.

So everyone knows everything about Obradovic and his "genius" around here
Defense wins championships, tell that to Indiana, who can only defend. You would field a team with only one shooter in Knight. Allen, Smith, Moose and Drum can't shoot to save their life. The paint would be ridiculously clogged hurting everyone's individual games.
Your plan is a failure.

I agree that Smith doesn't fit with Monroe and Drummond - he's just a big name that excites people.
I made the same mistake in my thread, without using a big name! We need outside shooters. Guys like Brewer and Aminu and Smith bring the defense we want... but a guy like Dorell Wright brings the shooting we need
No one seems to want to discuss Wright though, the same way people don't even consider J.J Redick.
In all honesty those 2 guys at SF and SG would benefit Drummond and Monroe more than Smith and Brewer or Aminu and Brewer because no team could clog the paint.
But everyone has different views on how to best compliment our bigs... at least we all seem to agree that Dre and Monroe are the future

Yeah, Smith makes no sense with our current roster. And I love Tony Allen, but he really doesn't either plus I imagine he wont be looking for a rebuild. We need another guard that can handle/ run the offense or shoot, preferably both but at least one of those is a must. And Tony isn't either.
That's why Iggy or Eric Gordon make the most sense, even though both could be completely disastrous.
