The board is a bit dead lately, and we never really had a post season grading and break down of our season. So everyone feel free to do their own Review:

Team Grade: D

I give the team a D on the year. I really expected improvements this year after finishing last year strongly, but we ended up finishing with a worse record than last year. Knight didn't make any real improvements statistically, although he wasn't helped by our coaching and injuries. I liked the trade of Tay for Calderon, although really only for cap reasons, I'm hoping we dont bring him back as a starter.

The trade of Gordon and a 1st for Magette is still hard to judge, depending on how we use our cap space, and what pick we eventually give up to Charlotte. If we dont use any cap space, and end up having to give a top.10 pick some stage down the track it's a waste, but if we can get some effective players in the off-season with our cap space, improve as a team and end up giving a pick.15+ then it ends as a good deal for us.

Positives:
Drummond: Showed the potential to be a dominant player in this league, and showed that at the least he will be a defensive rebounding centre. Was better than anyone's expectations and showed a willingness to work hard, which was a question mark coming in.

Singler: A lot of people were getting frustrated with Singler by the end of the year. However, people are forgetting he was a second-round rookie being asked to play big minutes all year. For a second round pick, he has shown that he can definitely be a serviceable back-up player who can defend multiple positions. The type of glue guy that can work on the bench.

Monroe: Took another step up this year, maybe not as much as some people were hoping for, but defiitely enough to show he can be a solid building block, and a great pairing with Drummond. Leaves a bit to be desired on defence, but if he can keep working on his mid range shot, offensivey he is just about the complete big man. Great passer, good rebounder, and can still work in the low post.

Negatives:
Knight: Maybe a bit harsh to be a negative, but he didn’t make the improvements that many supporters were hoping for. Still struggled to run the team effectively, and showed an inability to throw lobs, which will be crucial with Drummond. However, he battled some injuries all year, and I’m hoping he gets a real shot at the point guard position all year next year.

Maggette: Not that I was expecting much from him, but he really showed nothing while he was here, I thought he might have been a decent player off the bench.

Charlie V: Streaky streaky streaky. Had some hot patches, had some real cold patches. I’d prefer him to just be a consistent decent player, but at least he will only be around for one more year.

Stuckey: Regressed this year. His start to the year was horrible, and he then lost his starting spot to a second round rookie. Had to change his role a fair bit, and it didn’t play to his strengths at all. His end to the year wasn’t too bad, however I was expecting a bigger year from him, and his year is a pretty good comparison to the Pistons season as a whole.

Player Grades
Drummond: A- : Great year, needs to work on his conditioning and free throws, but playing extended minutes next year should improve our record on its own.

Monroe: B- : Was our leading scorer and rebounder, lead the east in double doubles as well as points in the paint I believe?

Singler: C+ : Depending on your expectations for him I thought he had a good year, won his starting spot, and showed he can play a variety of roles for us.

Knight: C- : Inconsistency, I’m sure he’s already looking forward to next year.

Calderon C: Pretty much did what everyone expected of him when he came in, ran a stable offence, leaked points on defence. Great shooter though. Would’ve liked to see him with Drummond more, and maybe we will next year, hopefully only as a back-up though.

Bynum: B : That’s right, I’m giving Bynum a B. As a back-up point guard, for a lot of the year he played it perfectly. Can be selfish at times, but for a couple months he ran our bench unit to perfection, and really had a great connection with
Drummond. Would like him to be re-signed cheaply, only if Calderon is gone though.

Stuckey: D: Shot poorly, was inconsistent and became a back-up, not much more to say.

Jerebko: C- : Was basically two players this year, in his first half of the year he was extremely poor, taking too many jump shots, however I really liked his second half of the year. Got back to what he does well, hustling.

Maxiell: C-: Maxiell was typical Maxiell, had nights of eating babies, had nights of doing nothing. Fell off a lot in the second
half of the year, won’t be back next year.

Charlie V: D : Inconsistent, couldn’t do anything in the first half of the year, then had some okay games in the second half of the year when we wanted to tank. Looking forward to seeing him gone.

English: C - : Was okay, showed some potential to be an okay sharpshooting back-up, maybe my expectations were too high before the season.

Middleton: C: Showed some good flashes in the second half of the year, has a pretty high ceiling, and could possibly be our
starting small forward next year, can shoot, play D and is actually a pretty good passer.

Maggette: F: Did nothing, waived his towel well. Although apparently was a really good team mate and mentor to the younger
guys

Slava: D: Slava was our junk time player, never really did much. Still, hopefully next year he can improve and be a serviceable back-up.

Team Grade: D-

Team regressed in every way except for the development of Drummond. We traded away Ben Gordon's inconsistent scoring for a guy who waved towels all season (although I think this trade could pay off in FA I'm just judging it from a basketball perspective) our win/loss was worse, 10 game losing streak and Moose and Knight didn't improve much on last season.

Monroe B+ - Struggled a bit through periods of the season, learning to play as the key focus of opposition defences, had some monster games throughout the season, led the East in points in the paint and some other stat and still averaged 16 and 10. He looked good when he played with Drummond at the end of the season which is promising.

Knight C- He didn't improve in the season but was playing through injuries for most of the season and was the unluckiest player in the NBA. Was very inconsistent, often scoring 20 or 5 which could have been because of injuries. I also think it's unfair to judge him playing out of position at SG

Singler C - Played very well at the start of the season and probably over-performed. He regressed throughout the year and looked as if he was gassed. Should be a solid rotation player in the NBA.

Drummond A - Had the best season possible in limited minutes, played much better than most of us (including myself expected). Needs to work on his free throws, seriously for a guy with such good hands and touch I don't understand how he is a worse free throw shooter than me. Hoping he can continue to develop, improve his conditioning so he can play starter minutes and destroy opposition front courts with Monroe next season.

Calderon C+ - Ran the offence well, shot the ball very well but defended poorly as we expected. Don't want to start next season though.

Bynum B - Did a good job leading the bench and was excellent in periods

Stuckey D- He was horrible at the start of the season and was bad until April. Hoped he would finally become a consistent 18ppg scorer this season. Looked much better at April with the ball in his rather than a spot up shooter though.

Maxiell D+ - Played well at the start of the season with great tenacity. Did nothing after Christmas and was just frustrating to be watching him thinking that Drummond should on the court instead.

JJ C - Didn't do anything at the start of the season and was then out of the rotation for ages. Played very well towards the end of the season though and did his role.

Charlie V D - Had the really good spell around Christmas time where the bench was playing out of their mind. Didn't do much except chuck up 3s, there were a few games where he put in a lot more effort on the defensive end though.

English D- Didn't see much of him tbh

Middleton C+ Was impressive in the small amount of minutes, excited to see what he can do next season, looks like he could be very good for a 2nd round pick

Slava D? - Like English, didn't see much of him except for junk time and I can't draw an opinion on that alone. I think we all expected him to play more minutes though.

A+ Drummond- Couldn't have been better!!!

B Monroe- If it wasn't for the turnovers and low FG% for a player who mainly played center this year, I would've given him an A.

B+ Bynum- He finally learned his role on the team. Reminded me of the days we had Jon Barry. He was instant offense... I would sign him in a heart beat.

C Knight- Showed flashes of his potential but also showed some serious red flags. He's still a kid but has a good head on his shoulders. I would not be too interested in throwing in the towel unless we get something pretty juicy in return.

B Singler- With all the things he was asked to do, it's not surprising that he fizzled toward the end. He played 3 positions, was asked to start, and logged in big minutes. I thought he was much better than anyone thought he would be. He's not going to be a superstar in this league but he's definitely a good glue guy (hopefully off the bench)

B Jerebko- He started off the season slow and was benched. I blame Frank for this.. JJ was used correctly when given his second opportunity. Again, he did a great job for a bench player..

C Middleton- Thought he came on strong when he had the opportunity later in the season. Has much greater potential than Singler.

E- Rest of team... Enough said!!!
