This teaser on @DRE_DRUMMOND_ Plans not final, but he's reached out to Hakeem Olajuwon for a summer session with the HOFer in Houston.
Great to hear. Even greater that it was Drummond himself who took the initiative to set it up. If it all works out I think he's going to have a monster year next season. Just him starting and avg bigger minutes is going to be a huge difference in production, but if he adds just 1 consistent post move from Hakeem, he's going to be a beast.

Would be nice if Moose did it too!

pretty sure i saw somewhere that hakeem gets almost every big man reaching out to him and he has a bit of a waiting list as he takes about 2 or 3 a year.
but if he does eventually get a chance to work out with him and get an even better understanding of how to be effective and dominate the post on both offense and defense in the next year or two he really could become a top 5 or 10 player in the league and hopefully an all nba 1st team center.
am starting to get excited as to how this offseason plays out. we have a chance to get 2 really good wing players and be a very good team for the next 5-10 years. however, we could blow it and be nothing more than the ceiling of drummond monroe and knight.

I agree with everything you said, if he can develop any kind of post game he should be unstoppable!

This is basically a best-case scenario as far as how Andre spends his summer. Great news, I hope Hakeem makes time for him, and I hope this isn't the only time Drummond goes to work with Hakeem for a few weeks.

Hey Gores, you said you want to spend big - save on overypaying Mayo or Smith and hire Hakeem exclusively for the Pistons for a year or two.
Money better spent and doesn't count against the cap.
I'm sure other teams have tried that though. How long do these "summer camps" last - a week or two or is it just a couple of days of instruction?
What happened to our assistants when Frank was fired? Is our bigs coach gone?
Monroe would be better to pattern his game off of Karl Malone.

Indeed.

I wonder how much film Drummond has watched of Hakeem, given he's too young to have watched him in his playing days - especially in his prime.

I would think/hope the Pistons department is focusing completely on getting all film the Pistons organization has of Olajuwon.

I think Hakeem needs to teach Dre the basics before he teaches him advanced moves.

Kilo makes a good point. Now that would be money well spent.

Drummond's goal for next year should be a consistent jump hook. With his size, he should be focused on deep position (especially in transition) & just jump hook them to death.

I think this stuff from Arnie Kander is fascinating.
http://www.nba.com/pistons/features/tru ... 30502.html This is a snippet from that article. This coach is concentrating on building up Drummond's central nervous system - literally training his brain so Andre moves his body more quickly.
“I go back to last summer,” Kander said. “There are certain things I measure – stride length, stopping angles, how quick getting up, speed getting down the court, change of direction, how quick sideline to sideline – the level of improvement was off the charts. Everyone heard the word ‘potential,’ but it went way beyond that for me. Because when I saw the focus, the commitment, the dedication, potential becomes very easy to attain if you’re willing to put the work in and he did that all season. For me, he’s not even a piece of clay. He’s beyond a piece of clay.”
I asked Kander if he merely saw Drummond’s test results without knowing his identity, what physical profile would he have expected of the player who produced those numbers.
“Maybe somebody 6-6, 235 – that mid-range guy who’s really quick, really agile, can explode off the floor, run the court with incredible speed, great lateral movement,” he said. “You just don’t see guys that big quick lateral and great vertical.”
And Kander has some outside-the-box ideas in mind to further mold Drummond, who stands nearly 7 feet and weighs about 295 pounds with a body fat index that hovers around 5 to 6 percent.

Like the enthusiasm from Drummond, but I don't think he is at the point where he should be working on Akeem type moves. He needs to work on hitting the rim with his shots, before working on shakes/shimmies. Monroe would benefit from some Olajuwon training I think, help him get his shot off.

Was calling for this really early in the year, glad to see Dre actually reach out. I can't think of anyone better for him to learn from than the Dream himself.
Hakeem doesn't need to teach him the dream shake right away or anything like that. Just basic stuff...getting position, setting up your defender. Maybe a spin move, a hook shot, how to faceup effectively from the post and the up and under.

I get what you are saying, but working with Hakeem is never a bad thing. Adding some finesse to his power game could do wonders.
I love the work ethic Dre is showing!

From the reporting, he worked every day before practice and games with the Pistons coach on low-post moves. The idea is that it takes repitition (tons and tons of it - over several seasons) to develop your low post skills and moves and shots. Starting now (like he already has done) is to Drummonds mid- and long-term advantage. Working with The Dream is super-smart.
For The Dream, my guess is that working with Drummond would be a huge feather in his cap. He's very coachable and has the ability to understand, retain and apply his lessons.
My expectations for Drummond are through the roof because of his unreal combination of athletic ability, length and bulk, footwork, hard work, character and coachability. Watch for huge improvements between seasons for - oh - about each of the next 1/2 dozen years or so.
