I know some of ya'll have cooled on mayo because of how he finished the season but alot of that had to do with dirk coming back he didnt take many shots ju didnt mesh with dirk...

Now phx will get there sg through the draft so I feel we can sign mayo he can really stroke it 4years 32 million should get the job done

I really like a bk7 and mayo backcourt they both can shoot it from deep

I don't think we'll pursue him very hard unless we somehow end up with Porter in the draft.

Let him go to Phoenix.

"cooled on him"? You would have to be mad to ever be hot for him!

I've watched this guy's game slowly degrade since his promising rookie season.

Whomever signs him will regret it before the next all star break. Stop buying into this guy while telling yourself excuses for why he continues to fail.

He fails because he's a C+ player. He is what he is, and shouldn't start for any team seriously looking to contend.

^agreed. I don't think many ppl were that into on the idea of signing him anyways. Its not that he finished the season poor, he just returned to the player he always was, the same production he had given throughout his career up until he had a few months this year where he got hot.

He's BG 2.0. Who got hot for a few weeks in the playoffs, but in reality was never that great. We don't need to make that mistake again, at any price. Maybe for a 5 mil/yr deal I'd bring Mayp off the bench, which is all Gordon should'v been given, but tbh we don't even need Mayo as Knight can fill that same role for less.

will he leave Dallas?

Will Dallas do a sign and trade with Mayo?

Will he be comfortable after signing his first huge contract and not put in the work?

There are a lot of questions that need to be asked before we go throwing big money at anyone who had a "breakout" season. Lots of guys play well in contract years... doesn't mean you should sign them

Knight is not a PG, and they are both like clones of each other. I think with all our capspace that can be used to facilitate trades or FAs, and the 7th pick, we should be able to do better than that for our starting backcourt.

I think both are bench players at best.

We already overpaid a sixth man in ben gordon. I'll pass on Mayo unless if adding it to my turkey sandwich at lunch time.

Less than 12 months ago, virtually the entire board thought offering Mayo the MLE was ridiculous

Just 2 months ago, a lot of the same posters (me included) were ready to give him $10-12M per year. I'll give you credit as you were only willing to go up to $7-8M per year.

Now he sucks again, although I am sure we would all give him the MLE. Crazy how the same player's value can go up and down so much in 12 months.

It's getting reported that Flip Saunders is going to go after Mayo "hard" in the off-season to bring him to the Wolves.

I hope they do, and get this inefficient, undersized train wreck off the table for Dumars.

BG on the Bulls was very good at what he did-- volume shoot late in games and hit threes off screens--but he was bad at everything else and Bulls fans though he was worth about 4 years $32m. The big problem was he got MUCH worse statistically and MUCH less efficient when he got to the Pistons, who never needed him with Rip around anyway. It was a terrible signing for those reasons...not because Gordon wasn't a quite good perimeter scorer his last couple of seasons in Chicago. He averaged over 20 a game with a PER around 18 the last three years in Chicago. Those numbers are as good as basically any SG in the game now not named Kobe, Wade, or Harden. (BTW, his regular season numbers in 2009 are actually substantially better than his playoff ones, and tat includes raw numbers and efficiency.)

Mayo has never posted as good of lines. His PER last year was under 14, not far from league average, and he's never had a PER above 14.7. He also doesn't really do anything well except score...and he's below average efficiency-wise at that. I don't hate Mayo and think he'd be a nice if not great addition, but statistically we're probably no worse off just giving Stuckey 16 shots a game and keeping the money we'd give to Mayo.

It's funny how I started both and it's funny to see people who talk **** about me changing their mind a few months later as if nothing happened.

I wanted to sign him for the MLE back there and I was the one who started posting about Mayo to Detroit ( in one of my many offseason threads that the same people make fun over and over again  ) when he became Dallas 1st offensive option and was an absolute beast in that role.

He was horrible once Dirk was back but since we do not have a clear #1 option I would still love if we go after him and sign him.

That remind me I should make another offseason plan thread so the same people who talk crap follow up.

Disagreeing with you is not making fun of you vege. You were right about Mayo, but there was no evidence to say he was going to become a distributor and hot scorer like he did the first few months.

I posted this a month or so ago, and I can't even remember the source (maybe ESPN Insider), but it seems that Mayo already has a verbal deal with Dallas already. Not sure if the Minnesota thing trumps it, but if Cuban wants to keep Mayo, I'm sure that is what is going to happen.

Mayo might be a nice pick-up for Detroit...But I think Cuban will spend a pretty penny to keep him...

There is no where saying he has anything close to a verbal deal. The information we know is, he went to Dallas to make less money because he wanted to play for Carlisle.

Funny thing is, Carlisle got furious at him at the end of the season for the lack of effort in a game. I could see him going somewhere else and I'd love to see us going after him.

When does free agency start compared to the draft? Which comes first?

Draft comes first. FA starts July 1st IIRC.

I just bumped the thread and it was an ESPN Insider rumor. So he signs a discounted deal to help their cap space in 2013, and will get rewarded this summer.
