vege new offseason plan (Monroe out Josh Smith in...)

Draft Shabazz Muhammad at #7.

Trade Greg Monroe, Rodney Stuckey, Kyle Singler for John Wall and Trevor Ariza.
While Wall was the #1 pick and played really well the end of this season, he had injury issues and did not played up to the #1 hype.

Washington will need to give him the maximum and if they're not convinced he is a maximum salary player they get a top young center for him. PG is the easiest position to fill anyways. They also get rid of Ariza and add a cheap decent player in Singler.

For Detroit Wall showed he can be a great player if healthy and he is a very good defensive player. Ariza is also an above average defender. You add both to Drummond and Josh Smith and yeah... Defense.

Sign Josh Smith for the maximum, he wouldn't sign for a single penny less than that. (starts at $16,402,500)

Sign Mareesee Speights for 4 years 26 million.

Sign Martell Webster for 4 years 14 million.

Sign Brandan Wright with the rest of our cap space, should be ~$3,244,491

Trade Jonas Jerebko and Slava Kravtsov for Mike Miller. (Yeah he would hate it but if he use his brain he will realize it's a great situation for him, he would be a great fit and would work with a great medical staff and he would make 15% more money IIRC).

Miami has Ray Allen and Shane Battier, there is no place or reason for Mike Miller there and he already got his ring anyways so whatever. Jonas could replace Udonis Haslem's energy since he is not getting any younger. He would be a nice hustle energy guy off the bench for them. Slava would also have a role in their team off the bench.

He has a trade clause, that's why the deal was made after all FA signs.

We roll with

Andre Drummond / Brandan Wright / min salary scrub
Josh Smith / Mareesee Speights
Trevor Ariza / Martell Webster / Khris Middleton
Mike Miller / Shabazz Muhammad / Kim English
John Wall / Brandon Knight / min salary scrub

I wonder if we could do something like:

Knight, Monroe, Singler, and #7

for

Wall, Beal, and #8

I highly doubt we could get that. I would definitely make that trade if we could get it though.

We couldn't get that deal even without the WAS pick.

I can't see washington trading Wall even if the values there.

For me i would prefer monroe over smith.

I'm hoping to sign Milsap, Butler and calderon and letting Monroe and Drummond develop.
If we get a guy like Shabazz or Oladipo in the draft and knight develops further we could be in a very good position without having too many big contracts.

The only way you could get Wall is by trading both Drummond and Monroe and even then it's a stretch. Not so much because of the talent, but because the city of Washington is convinced that Wall is their centerpiece (and for good reason), and if management trades Wall, the city and fans will turn on the organization. Monroe + any asset not named Drummond for Wall is a joke offer.

Monroe and Drummond together is too much value to give up for Wall. Monroe and anyone outside of Dre alone, as you've said, will not get it done. Wall will become a top 5 PG, and he made huge strides in his finishing, shooting ability and turnovers this year, despite not playing many games.

Dang...this is straight up robbery...I thought I'd made some unfair trades in 2k13 but you've got me beat, with all due respect.

The way I saw it:

Wall = Monroe value-wise

Knight, Singler, #7 -> for -> Beal, #8

Wall is more valuable than Moose. Younger, more athletic, higher ceiling and a chance to be a much better two-way player. He's actually already better to boot.

Singler is just a throw away...Knight really doesn't have much value around the league until he proves he is a scoring PG, and not a combo guard. He hasn't done that yet. Beal on the other hand was terrific in the 2nd half of the season and has a lot of potential as an SG with NBA strength. Wall/Beal as a backcourt is a much better combo than Knight/Monroe barring Knight taking a HUGE step forward, which I believe he has the work ethic/physical tools to do. Whether or not he does remains to be seen.

I don't even think they would agree to the deal without including their pick.

Beal put up 17/6 on very good percentages the last couple of months of the season when he played with Wall. Plus he's all of 19 years old. I don't think we could get him for Monroe straight up right now, let alone for BK.

I agree that Monroe for Wall is a stretch and I tried hard to convince myself Washington would do it :D I don't see it happening but value wise I don't think it's far off.

I also prefer Monroe over Smith dVs33 but if you can get Wall and Smith and only give up Monroe, minor pieces and cap space you gotta think about it.

To get Wall we would have to do Monroe/Knight and maybe a pick swap (or future pick). That may not be enough though.

I posted a Moose/Knight for Wall trade on the T&T board at the tail end of the season. Neutral posters thought it was a good trade as well as one WAS poster. The other WAS posters would rather keep Wall so there ya go.

I really your post a lot vege. I think we could get wall for monroe. People talk about wall having more value, but I think that value is tied equally. Wall is an upcoming Allstar point guard and Monroe is an up coming all star power forward. I love josh smith and speights parings with Drummond and I love the muhammad pick. I also like the Mike miller trade a lot too. All these dudes make sense and you added defense to this squad with smith and Drummond. Great post !

Trading Wall for Monroe makes no sense for Washington, just from a fit/need perspective.

They don't have equal value. Wall put up 21/8/5 post-all star break, got to the line more than he has before, improved his FT%, turned the ball over less and shot a higher overall percentage than he has in his previous 2 years. He's already better...and he's ceiling is through the roof. Moose's potential is limited because of his below-average athleticism. Wall on the other hand is an elite athlete and as he continues to improve his jumper and decision making, he's going to be a true superstar.

Anyone WAS fan will tell you this. They won't have any interest in trading Wall for worse players...
