JJ Redick

Post#1 » by theBigLip » Wed May 15, 2013 10:21 pm

After reading everyone's offseason plans, including my own, I agree with Snakebites and other's comment that some good shooters are needed, and maybe adding Josh Smith, Iggy, and Oladipo wouldn't be the best move, even if we could pull it off. So....

...we do have a chance to get a great shooter in McLemore in the draft. That would be ideal. He could become an AllStar, and if not, should at least be a solid starting SG in the league. But if we don't get a top 3 pick, I doubt we are getting him, which leads to...

...JJ Redick. First of all, let me say, I really hate Duke. A lot. And non-athletic white guys playing the wing in the NBA is usually not a great thing for your team. But I have to admit he is one of the better shooters in the league, and if we are building around Moose and Dre, then getting a guy like Redick may be a viable free agent target this offseason. Probably wouldn't cost as much as Mayo, and he can actually shoot better.

Thoughts?

Sure, he'll be a nice player coming off our bench...

If they could sign him for something like 3-years, 10 million, I'd be game. JJ is a fantastic shooter, not a bad passer either, and generally a team player. But, he's a huge defensive liability. I would be happy with him coming off the bench and gunning it a little bit.

I guess it all comes down to $$$. I'm sure someone will give him at least 5M a year, and the price might go more like 8M.

For 4-5 mil/yr as a luxury shooter off our bench, after every other need has been filled, sure why not

That's not an improbable scenario. Which is sad. He doesn't impact a game enough to be paid like that. I'd rather have Carlos Delfino at half the price!

Great shooter so he'll always have a role in the NBA, but at that price I'm not interested. His wingspan and standing reach are both shorter than Brandon Knight's. I think you'd need to surround him with really great players.

I was actually thinking about this today. I do like him a lot. Certainly not as a starter, as most people here have established. Would definitely help with spacing that's for sure.

Redick would be ok if Stuckey wasn't back next season, in theory. But he's looking to get paid. For much less money, I'd rather go after Korver to fill the same shooter-off-the-bench role.

Reddick wants to start and he wants to be 2nd or 3rd option and be paid 7-10 mil per season.

If you dont think he is worth the 30mpg or 1.5X the MLE then forget him.

Why would he come here for less money and fewer mpg than the Thunder would be willing to give him?

I like JJ and think hes a better SG than any Piston since 06 but hes a 2nd tier FA and I wouldnt give him a call untill I cant find a better player in trade/FA

Mayo is a much better option, JJ Redick is a specialist, a great shooter and that's about it, Mayo brings a lot more than Redick.

Redick would be a fantastic option off the bench for the right price.
