Why I think knight will be a role player

Iam not trying to beat a dead horse here just want to get my opinion out there

When I read about other peoples opinion about knight and how he gets lumped in with dre/monroe as one of our cornerstones it makes me wonder why ?How is knight in the same catergory as those 2.I get he has potential, but you can clearly see that dre/monroe have allstar qualities and are on other levels than knight.Monroe has shown that he has a place on a starting team and has gotten better at the half points of every season since hes been here,he understands what he has to do and produces. As for dre it dosent take a rocket scentist to see even at his worst he will still be starter quality.I relize that dre/monroe have issues but are few and fixable and dont worry me.Knight is supposed to be the future pg of this team and so far hasnt shown anything outside of his occasional streak and hasnt progressed in his time here.Knights problems arent like monroes/dres were you can over look them because there postives out weigh their negatives, knights problems are exactly what makes a good pg,his timing, vision, turnovers, handling, decision makeing and those are alot of issues to fix for him to reach a good pg on a championship team, his flaws are not outwayed by his postives to overlook.I will give him credit on his passion, hardwork, defense and streaky shooting but that dosent outweigh his flaws either and honestly his defense is the only thing that seperates him and bynum at this point, which is a good backup player or 6th man.Now it is possible that next year he takes a great leap but history and experience tells us better. So if we have a chance to aquire a good, proven pg in draft or FA why not go for it,why let hopes of knight becoming what we need stop us from getting it now.Another thing about knight that is a personal feeling about him is, I dont get that feeling about him as other pg,that when he has the ball I feel confident he will do great things (thanks for that 1 bigshot).Thats pretty much it,I really do hope iam wrong and that he becomes what we all want and I will be the first to say I WAS WRONG.

Your opinion should include a little bit of grammar, as trying to read that wall of text is daunting.

Knight doesn't immediately qualify as a "cornerstone" to me either. But, he did play a lot of the season with plantar fasciitis, and other injuries. That's part of the reason he was wildly inconsistent. Also, having a moron coach like Frank didn't help.

I believe he can be a starting caliber PG, but he has to get healthy and gain some consistency before they decide his fate.

Its late and I was writting this while watching the game, give me a break.I honestly dont think knights injuries are why he hasnt progressed, ill give you frank but vision, handling, etc shouldnt have anything to do with frank. This is really going to be a big year for us either way it goes.

Most errors can be avoided by typing in word then copying and pasting. I too, hate reading such posts.

I think Pistons need a coach like Larry Brown (not happening), Brian Shaw or Avery Johnson to bring the best out of Knight. It is not time to trade Knight yet. With the right coach Knight could be a consistent 15-20ppg and 5-7apg.

This next season is make or break for Knight. He needs to cut down on his TO's, play within himself and score more efficiently. Knights problem is he does everything at lightning speed, if he's going to have a role with the team then he needs to just slow down and play within the flow of the game.

Sorry but that wall of text is unreadable. Put some spaces etc etc. I refuse to read that.

Knight is the next Jason Terry. There is nothing wrong with that but if we don't bring back Calderon next season or add another true passing point guard for our bigs. We will be in the lotto again. I like Knight but looks to score more than create for others.

We can't expect every draft pick to become studs, he will make a very good 6th man probably. He needs to change his game a lot to be considered as a starting guard in a playoff team.

It's a mental thing with Knight. He's had a TON of great looks this season. His speed is on par with other superstar players. However, he blows a lot of easy layups. His mid-range shot is just not falling. Most of his misses are front rim as if he's trying to fine tune his release .

I get an overall sense of low confidence offensively. Not in the sense of Austin Daye, but it's wavering. I believe that's in part to all of the ball handlers this team already has in rotation. Detroit needs to reduce that number and hopefully he'll buy into what Detroit wants him to be.

The tools are definitely there. It shouldn't be a question at all. Just the mental aspect is holding him back. He's going to break out sooner than later.

^All of the ball handlers the team already has?? Who are they? Stuckey and Bynum?

The team got blown out every single time the opponents pressed them. If anything, the team actually needs an elite ball handler with playmaking ability.

Before I ring the bell on him, I remember how badly Mike Conley was getting blasted in Memphis, for being a bad PG, claiming he had no court vision, etc, etc. Now, he's a phenomenal PG! Sure, he doesn't show up on ESPN's highlight plays, but he plays very efficient basketball and is exactly what his team needs him to be.

There's countless other examples. But, there's also plenty of examples where guys didn't pan out either.

Point being- I'm willing to give him the rest of his rookie contract to figure it out.

He's 20, I know we live in a "do it now or you suck" world but you rarely know what a player is at 22 let alone 20.

Good point on Mike Conley, people called Memphis absolute morons for extending him (after his rookie agreement) & now look, without Mike Conley Memphis wouldnt be where they are.

Personally, I lump Knight in with Monroe and Drummond because he still has "potential" to become a legit NBA starter. His current talent would be a third guard on an elite team. And we also don't have anyone better at his position (Calderon doesn't count - he was an expiring deal and not part of our future).

Knight fills PG better than what we do at SG and SF. So that makes him part of our core, at least for this year. If we ended up with McLemore and Iggy in the offseason, then Knight would become our weakest link and there would be a lot more scrutiny on him.

Knight will be ok, I'm confident he'll come back next season healthy and he'll begin proving all the haters wrong...

If those events unfolded, Knight would probably look a lot better. The defense wouldn't have to be concerned with him being the only outside shooting threat on the team anymore.

I HOPE he becomes a strong role player at this point.

Getting a strong 6th man from the 8th pick in the draft really isn't at all a terrible return and isn't something anyone should see as a major disappointment if things play out that way. I'm not particularly high on the likelyhood of him becoming a stable starting point guard at this point.

So we have some who believe he needs more time, some who think as I do.So what I will do is make this thread on the plyer comp board so we can get some outside perspective (homers removed).I would put it on the gb but iam kicked off of there for a looooong time.

Yup. If he doesn't show that he can be our starting PG by next year, I think it's time to move on or move him to the bench.

Stuckey, Knight, Monroe, Charlie V, & Bynum have a usage rate over 20%.

There's not enough basketballs.
