At the draft, pick Shabazz Muhammad at #7.

Trade our 2 2nd round picks and throw in some cash for a mid/late 1st. For money sake I made it #23. Draft Glen Rice Jr with the pick.

Total salary would be $56,092,186.

Billups would not play more than 15-20 mins a game, so there are plenty of minutes for Stuckey and Knight at the point.

If by the deadline Knight is not the starter caliber player yet, we would have ~4 million in cap space + Knight and Singler as trade bait for an above average starter PG.

Stuckey would be an insurance in case Chauncey goes down and Knight is still awful. Stuckey is a starter caliber PG, just not a good one. He will be in a contract year so I bet he will play the best ball of his career.

We also have a crapload of expirings in Stuckey, Villanueva and Kravtsov, to play with at the deadline.

This offseason plan would fix our wing issues, we would add an athletic defensive minded SF in Aminu and a prolific scorer in Shabazz who can hit 3's and help space the floor.

We would bring back Chauncey to retire as a Piston and mentor Knight, easing him at the starter role.

We would bring a 3rd big who would be a great fit with either Drummond and Monroe, is young enough to grow with them and would accept a role coming off the bench.

If nothing happens, the season after we would have a lot less roles to fill and would be in a much better position.

How are they going to extend Drummond and Moose with those albatross contracts like Speights and Aminu on there? btw, you're way overpaying those marginal players.

I like Aminu, but not for the price. You can find an alternative for half that much. And, Speights isn't worth 8 million a season to anyone in the NBA. I watched him when he was with the Grizzlies, he's dumb. Seriously, he doesn't even know where to be on defense half the time, and he doesn't "bring it" every game. He's not worth a penny more than 4 million.

You're building this team for next season, not the future. Which is what a lot of people's problems on here are. Why not absorb Richard Jefferson's contract and the Warriors 2014 first round pick? You fill in the SF spot for a year, and GS has room to resign Jack and Landry without going into the luxury tax.

That deal helps Detroit's immediate needs, and helps build for the future. Let's be real- Monroe and Drummond will likely be near-max contract players. They need cap space for that play next off season with Monroe.

I would look to burn up that cap space by absorption, not blowing it on mid- to low-level free agents. Make the same offer to the Nets- we'll take on Humphries contract for a future 1st rounder. Now you have shored up your needs for a veteran small forward, and a backup forward/center while getting a couple picks in the process.

Why would we absorb Jefferson's contract for a first round pick considering the fact that we traded our pick to get RID of a contract? That's literally the exact opposite of what we did. Dumars wants to spend this summer and whether you like it or not, that's what's happening. Absorbing a contract for a first is nice, but it's not happening.

As for the OP plan, it's very realistic although I feel that with no real impact players added with no real star players at the moment, we become a treadmill team until Drummond fully blossoms, which I would expect to be around 3-5 years from now.

Aminu would be a nice pick-up, but Knight should be a starter on this squad...

Billups is unrealistic. Its pretty clear he wants to end his career on a championship team. The other trades are horrible. Speights for 8mill a year? Absurd.

With Knight starting without deserve we will continue to be at the bottom of the barrel. Knight is absolutely terrible basketball player right now. He needs to develop and learn a lot before he even gets meaningful minutes.

Playing behind Billups and with Stuckey competing with him for minutes would guarantee he would need to earn his minutes.

No kid if it was up to me we would have traded for Curry a few years ago and would have signed OJ Mayo for cheap. We would have not given Afflalo away to sign Chris Wilcox and we would have traded a 2nd round pick to Philly for Speights.

Do some research and you'll see I was adamant about everything I just posted and was basically alone in the Curry, Mayo and Speight trades/signs at the time and they would look absolutely brilliant right now.
