I don't think Stuckey working out means the Pistons aren't planning on buying him out or trading him. Until it happens he's still a Piston, but I take what Goodwill is saying to mean by some point this summer the Pistons are planning to part ways with him somehow.

If I had to guess, Joe probably wants that extra 4 mil in capspace to work with. Remember in 09 he traded AA and Amir to get an extra few mil. This sounds like a similar scenario.

I don't think he knows much that we don't, but I too would be surprised to see him here to start next season.

I guess for me I just don't really see either one of them (him or Knight) as starting guards. Useful 6th men, perhaps, but we don't need 2 of those in the back court.

Remember how Tay was good as gone couple of seasons ago? I'll believe it when I see it.

I think Drew Sharp made a good point as far as trading Stuckey goes. Just like what happened with Rip, if the Dumars is intent on getting rid of Stuckey, why should teams trade anything for him when they can wait out the Pistons to waive him?

^Either way the Pistons can dump Stuckey this summer if they choose. Doesn't matter to me how they do it, I'll be glad to just move on from the Stuckey Era. I'd prefer just buying him out though, as that 4 mil in space is more valuable than trading him for someone else's garbage.

Given that Goodwill predicts he won't be back, unless he knows about a trade that we don't, I'm guessing he's hearing behind the scenes that Stuckey is going to be bought out just like Rip was prior to Frank's hiring. If anything, it might be more about removing all potential lockerroom problems for the next coach, than about the cap space.

Unless there's an imminent trade in place to move Stuckey, it's all speculation.

I don't expect them to buy him out, as he becomes a potentially valuable expiring contract for the trade season.

But, I do look forward to the day they get rid of this guy. He's a schmuck.

as an $8.5 mil expiring he's hard to move during the season IMO.... you have to take back a salary within 125%

That means some other team must trade (at a minimum) someone making $6,375,000

or as much as $10,625,000

But trading Stuckey for a package that totals $10,625,000 on July 1st is ideal for whomever gets Stuckey. They can waive him and immediately have an additional $6 mil in cap space

I would take back almost any player to ditch Stuckey.

I just don't know that Stuckey has any trade value. He was a RFA a few years back and got no action. Now a couple of mediocre years later he's shown himself to be a bench guard. Good teams don't have the room to pay backup guards $8, bad teams don't have a reason to do it.

I think he's cut on the partial guarantee.

If the Thunder claim they can't pay James Harden ~$14 mil a year then turn around and give Perkins and Stuckey $17 mil their fans should boycott.

Stuckey does have value via trade...

1) a rebuilding team might jump at the chance to shed a long term contract... we'd want a better player in the exchange because we're taking on salary... or if it's "even" we'd want a pick

2) a team that is struggling to meet the minimum salary requirement should jump at the chance to add an expiring $8.5 mil contract

3) a team looking to shed an additional $5 mil in cap space could jump all over Stuckey due to the fact he can be waived!

IF Stuckey us here on opening night I'll be surprised... and very disappointed. He's not part of the solution which IMO makes him part of the problem.

And this is the off-season to solve problems!

I wouldn't mind a buy-out with a T-Mac signing and the 2 together would cost less than 8.5 million.

T-Mac is what we want from Stuckey with extra and he can blend his skills into an offense more than Stuck imo.

Stuck isn't bad, but he is too ball-dominant for his actual contribution. I know Stuckey is good with 3 shooters and Drummond, but it's not realistic to have that at all times he is in the game.

i still like stuckey to be honest.
I think he's best role would be lead guard off the bench. Last year he was basically used as a spot up shooter which is the worst way to use him.
We'll see i guess.
