If available, Wilson Chandler should be the top trade target for the Pistons in the off-season.
Brandon Knight
Shabazz Mohammad
Wilson Chandler
Greg Monroe
Andre Drummond

Look at the teams that 1) have a very large payroll and want to dodge the tax or 2) are tanking and want to save money or 3) teams looking for Dwight/CP3
Names likely in play:
Pau Gasol
Luol Deng/Boozer
Afflalo
David Lee/Andrew Bogut/Harrison Barnes
Omir Asik
Mario Chalmers (attached to Joel Anthony/Mike Miller)
Gortat/Jared Dudley
The lux/repeater tax concerns are very real. Good players are going to be given away this summer.

Agree with this completely!
Names likely in play:
Pau Gasol
Luol Deng/Boozer
Afflalo
David Lee/Andrew Bogut/Harrison Barnes
Omir Asik
Mario Chalmers (attached to Joel Anthony/Mike Miller)
Gortat/Jared Dudley
Gasol - do the Lakers care about the tax? And if they do can't they just amnesty Gasol?
Boozer - again, I think he can be dumped via the amnesty clause
Deng - yes, it makes sense for them to dump him considering they have Butler
Afflalo - agree, especially if they Draft McLemore (and they should)
GSW - I don't see them trying to dump those players... unless it's a S & T for Dwight or some other big name C
Asik - don't the Rockets have enough cap space to get someone of quality at PF? Why dump Asik?
MIA - do they care about the tax?
PHO - all bets are off considering they just hired a new GM and no one knows what he's going to do
I'd add Philly and the Kings into the discussion - new GM usually means cleaning house...

Why would a team amnesty a player they can trade? You understand they still have to pay the salary, right?

Because in a trade they have to take back salary... and both those teams (CHI and LAL) are over the tax threshold
IF they amnesty those players they don't take back any salary and for salary cap purposes the entire amount of Gasol and Boozer comes off their cap figure!
The Bulls don't need to amnesty Boozer to get below the threshold... they could make other moves... but using the clause on Boozer makes it happen in one move
And I thought the Bulls/Lakers only had to pay the full salary if no one put in a bid for Boozer or Gasol? If some team puts in a bid then the Lakers/Bulls pay the difference between the bid price and the full salary... but the full contract is still off their books for cap purposes

They don't have to take salary back if they trade the player to a team with cap space. Do you find it is realistic that a team like Chicago who is run by a owner that never paid luxury tax would pay for tens of millions for Carlos Boozer to play somewhere else over trading him?

There are a lot of variables when it comes to the tax and amnesty...
Atlanta only have $21 mil committed for next season - but that's with only Horford, Williams, Stevenson (not guaranteed), Jenkins, Scott, Mack, Tyler's buyout and their 2 first rounders on the books
Would they take Boozer off Chicago's hands? Depends if they can reach the minimum team salary without him!
Same goes for any other team with plenty of cap space.
On the one hand they could acquire Boozer for "future considerations" and reach the minimum team salary level... but a deal like that would only occur after they have struck out on free agents and decided not to overpay their own role players to reach that level
There is nothing to stop Atlanta (or any other team under the cap) from giving someone like Zaza Pachulia a 1 year $10 mil salary... didn't Humphries get a deal like that from the Nets?
The Bulls have a projected team salary of $75+ mil... this puts them over the tax threshold. This means they don't even have the full MLE to offer any free agent they want to sign. It also doesn't include any salary for Nate Robinson or Nazr Mohammed... it does however include $5 mil for Rip Hamilton, who they can dump for $1 mil
The question is: do they want to rely on some other team wanting to take Boozer off their hands before they make a single move this off-season... or do they amnesty Boozer, dropping their team salary down to $60 mil.
Getting down to $60 mil doesn't give them cap space... but it does allow them to sign Nate Robinson and Nazr Mohammed without going over the tax threshold (or just Nate) OR allows them to use the full MLE without going into the tax
With the repeat tax rules in place what makes more sense for Chicago?
Worst case scenario for Chicago is that Boozer signs for next to nothing with some other team... while the Bulls use the full MLE and/or retains Nate Robinson
Best case scenario is that a team with cap space bids $10 mil on Boozer. Bulls get to spend the full MLE and/or retain Nate Robinson while only being on the hook for $5,300,000 of Boozer's salary
Like I said: there are a lot of variables when it comes to the tax and amnesty
We can't know what choices teams will or won't make... but IMO it's better for teams to look after their own payroll and be pro-active. You make moves based on what suits you. Control what you can control.

If Jerebko can nab Afflalo that would be sweet. JJ really did finish the year strong. Makes 3 million less per year and 1 less year than Afflalo. Could throw in Kravstov if that is their thing. But Orlando's roster looks pretty full.
Eric Gordon and Danny Granger flat-out scare me. At least Granger is expiring (I think), but Indy wouldn't trade him to us for peanuts if at all due to being in the same division.
If Dwight really goes to Houston, could we get Omer Asik for a nice deal in which we add salary? An $8m per year back-up center is strange, but his contract would be up before Drummond's rookie deal. They would be a force together splitting 48 minutes.
I wouldn't be shocked if Lakers amnesty MWP and then trade Gasol for less salary.
Gasol is $19 million and we don't know if he would be the best fit, but he expires.
Maybe Stuckey/Middleton/Jerebko/Kravstov for Gasol if they keep Dwight. Saves about $4m while gaining 3 roster spots.

Id want Detroit to also target Jeff Green- he's overpaid so Id see if Boston would part with him for salary relief
A dream scenario would be to land both Chandler and Green.
MCW/Chandler/Green/Monroe/Drummond would be insane defensively and well balanced offensively.

I would like Chandler the most.
BUT......with Gallinari injured and Brewer/Iggy both free agents, its unlikely they make him available.

Granger if healthy would be awesome, I like Chandler, I like Igudola at the right price.
Shabazz at the 2, Granger at the 3 with our core 3 & some bench depth & we are a playoff team.
