The one thing that will be fun about this draft

The lottery of this draft is so up in the air, regardless of who Detroit picks, it's going to be a polarizing choice. There isn't going to be a consensus pick like Monroe, Drummond or Knight (fans thought he was a steal).

Whether it's Shabazz, McCollum, MCW or any of the other outlier picks, some posters are going to be happy and optimistic, others are going to be pissed. It's going to make for a fun conversation, regardless of outcome.

I'm looking forward to it!

Agreed. There are probably 10 players we could take w/ #8.

I dunno, there is almost always at least 1 team that reaches and a guy or two who fall unexpectedly. We've been the beneficiary on a couple of recent occasions and wouldn't be shocked if it happened again. That could potentially create a more universally optimistic view of the outcome. But if things do play out as expected, you're probably right. Will be polarizing on this board.

I agree (and am hoping!) that someone will unexpectedly fall to us ... but regardless of that, I still expect our pick to be polarizing 'cuz there's even great disagreement about the top tier prospects this year. For instance, there have already been multiple posts arguing that Burke isn't the best PG in the draft, that Bennett is a "tweener," that Porter lacks upside, that Oladipo lacks offense, and that McLemore lacks fire and could be a bust. There are gonna be people here who are unhappy with whomever we pick, even if we wind up capitalizing on an unexpected draft night drop again.

There are a lot of guys that have unexpectedly fallen, but much of the time those guys don't work out. We might forget this because we've been huge benificiaries the last few years. But I remember nets fans were ecstatic when they got Sean Williams who fell because of character issues... and then sucked because of character issues. Blazers fans went crazy when they got J Bayless too, and he never did anything for their team.

And the opposite is true-- sometimes not getting the guy you went is much better. The warriors would have taken Johnny Flynn over Steph Curry. The Sixers would have taken Austin Daye over Jrue.

But yeah, its going to be a weird draft to watch. Not sure I'm happy if we pick anyone in particular-- except Burke, which ain't happenin--but I'm not pissed if we take anyone either.

And, I would be happy with any one of them pretty much.

I'm already annoyed, and feel that, generally and specifically, each of you are terribly wrong.

Unless McLemore has a dramatic slide, posters are going to like or hate the pick.

In a funny twist, picks 6,7,8 could be better than picks 1,2,3. As someone said, theres 10 picks Det can make and I'd be happy with most of them. I've never seen McCollum play though. If they pick CJ I'd be uneasy about it naturally.

This is the 1st draft in a while that I have honestly no idea about.
opinions
1- Portland has 3 picks in the range 39-45, they have got to be trading into the 1st round.

2- I really hope that Minnesota falls in love with Victor Oladipo, just so that we can fleece them in a trade.

those are my only ideas on this draft. I really don't want to see the pistons use their 1st pick on a big, but i wouldn't be horrified if happened. Just not Mason Plumlee.

My #1 is burke, but even tho I want him bad,I will still be excited if we draft someone else because theres still that chance that the pick could turn out to be great-good-poopy and thats the exciting part to see.The only way that I would get pissed is if burke does fall and we dont pick him (but I can get over that and still give the guy we do get a chance) or if we trade our pick away or trade down or pick a guy that no one saw coming when their was still players on the board and that guy could have been had at the end of the first.

Agreed, this board will be on fire the first couple of days after the draft. Should be good! :D

Actually, there WERE people disappointed that we wound up with Knight because they were convinced we already had an all star pg....

I like Burke a lot. He's got all the intangibles to be a great player. Forget the fact that he has limited athleticism and limited size, he has the heart of a lion and his winning attitude could really provide the leadership we are looking for.

The big problem I have with Burke is this... BK, Burke, & Bynum are all little G's and lack the size to compete with some of the other PG's in the league.

Bynum, although he is a UFA, he has been told we have a roster spot for him if he wants it.

That is odd. Wonder what those picks wouldbe worth; all three for a #18? But then again who wants three rookies, none of whom are great prospects?

I hope if we draft Burke, or anyone for that matter, we draft him because of how he'll fit with Drummond and Monroe, not how he fits with Knight and/or Bynum. I agree though

Dude you could have 3 Kyle Singlers on your team in as little as two years time! Think of the possibilities.

Hey, weakest draft in years, why not corner the market on borderline role-players? You'd be a fool not to. We're also all a-giddy about trading a 1st rounder for Thomas "Bags Stay Packed" Robinson for some reason. Epic sucking does strange things to a fan base.
