Simple Off Season Plan

Post#1 » by ayatooma » Wed Jun 12, 2013 3:20 pm

Why go too crazy right?

#8 take bpa
trade stuckey for marion + 13 draft wing or big
trade back into 1st (hopefully around 24) with 2nd rounders and draft wing/bkup big

sign bkup point
sign starting wing

knight/FA
FA/late 1st
#8 or #13/marion/middleton/singler
monroe/marion/JJ/CV
drummond/#8 or #13

Hopefully you pull Iggy. Then the team is young (with leadership in Iggy and Marion) and would still have some cap left over for next year. You might even start Marion at the 3 (not sure if he can still handle that).

Based on this off season and the current mocks we could look like this...

NBADRAFT
mcw/knight
dipo/knight/singler
iggy/middleton
monroe/marion
drummond/dieng

DRAFTEXPRESS
mcw/knight
iggy/knight/singler
bazz/middleton
monroe/marion
drummond/withey

Thoughts?

Dallas wants cap space to make a run at CP3/Dwight so taking Stuckey back defeats the whole purpose for them. What they seem to want is 2nd round picks in return for that package since it would cut almost $11mil off their payroll instantly between Marion's contract and the 13th pick cap hold heading out.

Did not realize that was the thought. Still like the idea, minus the late 1st. Figure it could still work out with a big man FA signing. Something small, not a big money deal.

I'm not sold on Marion's team leadership. if we add Marion, i want to play him cause we aint winning anything and maybe he can build some minor trade value.

Would love to get Dallas' pick for some second rounders.
First need is get a PG so that Knight can move to the 2 and use his strength to score the basketball
Second need is a starting SF. I would look to draft the teams future SF and sign a backup Big to run a solid 3 man rotation with Moose and Dre.
Ex: Draft Shabazzzzzzz
Ex2: Sign Carl Landry for 4year $31.5 million
Ex3: Sign Anthony Morrow for 3 year $13 million

1.MCW/Stuckey/Bynum
2.Knight/Morrow/Stuckey
3.Shabazz/Singler/Middleton
4.Monroe/Jonas
5.Drummond/Kravtsov

Trade a future 1st round pick top 20 protected & our 2nd round (56th pick) to Dallas for Marion & the 13th pick.
Trade Stuckey & Singler to the Suns for Jared Dudley & the 30th pick.
Draft Shabazz Muhammad 8th, MCW 13th, Mike Muscala 30th & Bojan Dubljevic 37th(stash in Europe)

Sign Iguodala(4yr/52mil), & Kaman(1yr/6mil) & Bynum(2yr/5mil)

Knight/MCW/Bynum
Iguodala/Muhammad
Marion/Dudley/Middleton
Monroe/CV/Jerebko/Muscala
Drummond/Kaman/Krav

I like the first idea, seems more realistic than most proposals. I think the Suns like Dudley's leadership and the team needs some mature vets like him, but Stuck has more upside and is younger, and they're in full rebuild now. Singler could help them as well.

I'm all for the Marion trade and think it's a great use of space this summer, but it seems risky to count on MCW being available at 13. There's a chance he falls there, but I'd put it at less than 50% now.

Also, that team is pretty unexciting--ceiling of the 7th, maybe 6th seed--but we would have some flexibility the year after, right? CV's and JJ's expiring would make up for most of Moose's extension, so we'd have a decent amount in sub-cap cash.

Your idea is OK...I don't see Iggy signing with our young team and we'll end up passing MCW if he's available at 8...We need shooters more than anything...I like you idea about Muhammad, especially playing him at the 3(his true position)...Withey would be a nice addition...

How about....

+ draft Zeller at 8th, good fit next to either Dre or Moose

+ Resign Calderon 3years -21 mil, great 3pt shoter, low TO guy i think Knight has to actually beat him to earn the starting PG spot

+ Sign Korver 3 years - 18 mil, great 3pt shoter, decent SF but good luck trying to get a player who is a lot better at SF

+ Sign Tyreke Evans 4 years -40 mil, this is risky but out of all free agent SG i think he has the most potential, its a gamble but if he ever gets a decent shot, he could be an allstar and this past season was OK, became more efficient and is just 23 years old ( he also would be a good match with Knight because he has some playmaking ability)

Calderon/Stuckey
Evans/Knight/English
Korver/Singler/MIddleton
Monroe/Jerebko/Charlie
Drummond/Zeller/Slava

Looks like a playoff team to me, with questionable defense but good offense, good 3 pt shooting and a decent bench with a lot of options in the backcourt, CHeeks can figure this out hopefully.

I like the idea except take out the Korver signing. I'd rather role with Middleton and Singler over him.
