Willie Green

Well I know the guy is in a great situation in LAC, he is a veteran entering the last leg of his career and is starting for a contender, however, I'll be an ****.
AFAIK Green is a high character hard worker veteran, who was born in Detroit and it was reported before that Joe Dumars SHOULD have traded for him (when his sister died or something like that). Green is a good defender and he has been an insane 3 point shooter for the past 4 seasons, shooting 44 and 43% from 3 the past 2 seasons.
It seems to me that his game improved with the age/experience. The past 3-4 years have been the best years of his career and he played for 4 different teams in that period.
So I believe it would be amazing to have Green starting at the SG for us and being a veteran leader for this team, as if those things are not enough, IIRC Green played 5 years under the clown head coach we just hired, so he could make things a lot easier for him (the clown).
Green is under contract and in a good situation but I don't think LAC would hold into him if they could get raw cap space + a minor incentive it should be enough and we could trade for Green right now using BG's TPE. LAC is a contender and they can easily attract veterans/ring chasers for the minimum salary.
Should Joe Dumars go after him? Would LAC let him go? Would Green be somehow frustrated even tho he would be playing for his hometown team which I'm pretty sure would be a dream for him?

Starting at SG? That's straight crazy. In the lockerroom as a high-character veteran presence? Sure

Why is that crazy? What do we need from our wingers? Isn't good perimeter defense and 3 point shooting?
What does Green do well? I wouldn't be surprise to see he had the highest 3 pt% in the whole league this season he had 44% that's "straight crazy".
He also had impressive defensive numbers not only for the Clippers last year but for the past 3 years.
I'm not saying he should play 40 minutes and get 20 shots a game but he could be our veteran leader and glue guy, giving back what we lost when we traded Prince.
We obviously need a scorer SF playing next to him because he is offensively challenged.

We don't need an undersized SG who's lost a step.

We're hoping for Willie Green now? Wow....I wasn't aware things were THIS bad. Maybe we can sign Marv Albert to play SG? If we're considering Green, why not get crazy?

If Joe signs Willie Green to be the starting two guard then I firmly believe he wants to be fired. He should shoot much higher than Willie Green.

I love this offseason. "Get amped for 2013, Pistons fans: Willie Green is coming home!"
I like Green and I think he'd be thrilled to play for us, and it'd work okay if we're trying to tank another season and develop our guys a bit. Green is fine as a cheap, high character, mediocre skill guy, but he's got 'below average player' written all over him. Even with his uncharacterstically high 3pt%, he had a PER below 12 last year, and he's had awful assist % numbers for a SG the last 4 or 5 years. You're not getting much out of him, but he can play 25 minutes a night without killing your team.

Stuckey or Knight >>> Green at SG.

Went to U of D and graduated with Willie. Good guy and would like to see him back here. I don't think it would happen though. I know people who still talk to him that say he likes the West coast.

If we draft A SG at #8, I wouldn't mind getting Green to be our veteran backup presence.
SG -- #8 pick / Green / English

Let's have some fun
Player A is 31 years old,
FG% 39.8
3ptFG% 36.2
TS% 54.1
eFG 51.1
PER 11.1
PER36: 8.9/5.2/2.7
DRtg 108
DWS 2.1
Player B is 31 years old,
FG% 42.1
3ptFG% 365.6
TS% 470
eFG 444
PER 12.8
PER36 13.8/4.8/2.6
DRtg 109
DWS 0.9
Player C is 31 years old,
FG% 46.1
3ptFG% 42.8
TS% .562
eFG .553
PER 11.8

Player D is 27 years old,
FG% .439
3ptFG% .300
TS% .527
eFG .478
PER 13.0
PER36 16.5/3.7/3.2
DRtg 112
DWS 0.5
* Just to make things easy DRtg, the lower the number the better since it's an estimation of points allowed per 100 possessions.
** DWS the higher the better since it's an estimation of how many wins his team got due to this player's defense.
Are this players comparable? Who would you pick to be your team's glue guy? 2 of this guys are from Michigan and the other one won a championship playing for us the other one people around here, including myself are pissed off he got traded
Pretty easy to identify all 4 but first answer to yourself if they are comparable and, if Willie Green is really as bad as the reaction on this thread is showing

He's not a terrible option, you just didn't sell him very well
University of Detroit = home coming
44% and 43% from downtown the last 2 seasons
"3 and D" veteran presence
Familiar with Mo Cheeks coaching
High character player
Wouldn't take much to acquire via trade
Would the Clippers take English and our last 2nd round pick for him? Or just English? IF the answer is yes then we should at least consider it.
But IMO we have bigger issues that need to be dealt with first...

Player C is the shooter. How does Korver compare?

Korver is a much better shooter. 62% eFG and 64% TS for him those are top of the pack numbers.
Korver is only behind Durant and LeBron in TS% (Chandler too but I'd ignore Chandler there to be honest) Korver also only ranks behind Calderon in 3 point % so yeah...

Umm... none of them? Unless you're trying to tank or replace an injured player quickly and cheaply, you wouldn't want these guys starting on your team.
I see your point, though, if we had to choose one based solely on numbers, Green looks probably the best here. Just don't ask any of us to get excited if he's our best option!
