Re: Reddick
Depends on his goals. Any contender will want him, but can't pay him much.
So, if he's after the cash, Detroit could probably get him for around 4-5 million over 3 years.

Might rather target Korver for the money...

You're going to pay a premium for any decent free agent.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

Welcome to the world of the new NBA, where solid role players will either take a huge pay cut to play with "big 3" type teams, or trying to overcharge to play for anybody else.

There's nothing new about this at all.

That is less than the league min.
Hes asking for 4 yrs and 40 mil. Most likely he settles for 4 yrs and 32-35.
Any FA that is a starter is going to command 10mil at the min
Any FA that is a back up big is going to command 6mil at the min
Any FA role player is going to ask for 5mil.
Reddick wants to start and be one of the big 3 on a team.

Which is too much and still probably not enough. I'd rather sign Dorell Wright, who isn't as good but can play both wing positions and can probably be had at or near the minimum.
Count that baby and a foul!

Re: Reddick
He reportedly wanted 8-10 million/year so people saying 5-6 million have no idea wtf they're talking about.
He is a good shooter and all but he is an AWFUL defender, I'd stay away from him even for the MLE let alone for 8-10 million.
Like Pete said, I'd rather get Korver than Redick, Korver is a MUCH BETTER defender, a better shooter, will not command that kind of money and he played under our clown head coach for 3-4 years.

10 million a year for JJ Redick! That would be absolutely Redickulous! The guy's worth half that.
I don't think "any FA starter" is worth 10 million, that's pretty wild. The Spurs only have two starters who make more than 10 mil, the Heat only have 3, and they're in the Finals.

Don't always agree with Vege but this is pretty dead on. He's going to cost a pretty penny. If we were close to contending (we aren't), I'd be more OK with overpaying to get him.
I'm down with Korver, who can play the 3 as well. He's top-5 in 3pt made (15th in attempts), second in 3pt%, 4th in TS%...we like those numbers.
Altogether we just need a few floor spacers. Reddick is good, but not worth the cash

Re: Reddick
Redick is not an AWFUL defender.
I watched an hour video from the Sloan conference with a bunch of stat geeks and SVG talking about various topics and SVG made the point that Redick is an excellent team defender!
He really emphasised the point that if they wanted J.J to "chuck the roll man on the pick and roll" Redick would do it every single time and if they wanted to "send Ray Allen baseline" Redick would do it every single time
Redick is obviously a little short, not athletic (SVG said it!) but SVG also made the point that stat geeks isolate an individual defender without knowing what each team's system is asking of that individual.
Redick is not a great individual defender - but he doesn't miss assignments. SVG said that while it doesn't show up on an advanced stat spreadsheet it does it does bring a team together and builds faith and trust in each other. THAT is part of building a winning culture, of having a positive locker room...
I'm on record as being a fan of Redick due to his shooting, professional attitude and have more respect for his defense than most people probably do but at the end of the day it comes down to price!
IF J.J Redick is going to demand $7-10 mil per season while guys like Webster, Wright and Korver demand $5 mil or less then it's an easy choice.

Re: Reddick
Redick is 3 years younger than Korver (about to turn 29, vs 32) and the better player. If you can get Korver for significantly less than Redick, then you go for Korver. However, if the difference in salary is only 2-3mil I think you have to go for Redick. I'm not going to argue about who is better on defense, because I honestly always thought that both were fairly solid defenders. Not above average, but solid.
Another player I'd like to see us try and get is Danny Green. He is what I think the Pistons were hoping Austin Daye would be, except he's a natural SG. If we could get Danny Green with a package of something like Singler and a couple 2nd rounders I think we have to do it. I doubt San Antonio would accept this trade, but you never know. Although Danny Green is paid only 3.5mil per year over the next 2, Singler is only 1mil over the next two, so SA might do that.

Re: Reddick
At this point, I think it really should depend on price and who we draft. There are a number of 3 point marksmen in this free agency class at the wing positions, and whatever wing position we don't address in the draft (assuming we do get a SG or SF that is), we should go and get in FA. I like Reddick, but I hate how much we might have to pay for him, and I have the same feeling about OJ Mayo. I like Korver a lot though. The dude is a straight up sniper from downtown. You need one of those on your team. Heck, we desperately need legit floor spacers on this team. CV is streaky and a liability, Singler is fairly average, BK still needs to figure out his position, and Middleton hasn't even shot great from 3 point land IIRC. We have to get a legit floor spacer like Reddick or Korver, regardless of who we draft.

Re: Reddick
I'll assume we draft M.C.W for the hell of it:
Sign Dorell Wright for 3 years starting at $4 mil
Sign J.J Redick for 3 years starting at $7.5 mil
Sign some big man for 3 years with the remaining cap space, which would be somewhere in the neighborhood of $8 mil as a starting salary
Drummond/Monroe/Slava
Monroe/Free Agent big man/CV
Wright/Singler/Middleton/Jerebko
Redick/Stuckey/English
Knight/MCW
Our second rounders get stashed in Europe and we have 14 players on the books
Drummond 30/Monroe 18
Monroe 16/Free Agent 20/CV 12
Wright 24/Singler 12/Middleton 12
Redick 28/Stuckey 20
Knight 30/MCW 18
Then next season Stuckey and CV are no longer here... MCW, Singler and Middleton take the minutes Stuckey was playing... we'd need to find another back up big man somewhere (or play Jerebko/Slava)
3 guard rotation:
Redick = shooter
Knight = combo
MCW = pass first
3 man group at SF:
Wright = shooter
Singler = glue
Middleton = shooter, potentially more
3-man big rotation:
Drummond = defensive anchor
Monroe = All-Star
Free Agent = ????????

Re: Reddick
I think the Bucks are probably going to have to re-sign him, especially after getting fleeced out of Toby Harris in the deal to get him. they'll probably let Jennings walk and then roll with a Monta/JJ backcourt.
