The team's #1 need to "right" the ship

A leader and an identity. Looking at the makeup of this team, I'm not sure where either comes from.
I was luke-warm about the Burke idea, but i think he could have filled the leadership role.
Can Drummond step up to BE the Howard/Shaq hybrid we're hoping for and therefore become the "identity" of the team?
Is there a free-agent ready to be the leader of the team?
In the team's run-up to the championship in the early 2000s, Chauncey was clearly the leader and Ben was probably the "identity" or they had the collective blue-collar/us-against-the-world/going-to-work identity.
I know these are all just questions, but I fail to see how Joe-n-Go-n-Mo's vision is going to crystalize. Hopefully, a month from now, post-free agency/trade period, things will be looking better.

The #1 need to right the ship would be to fire Joe Dumars.

I think we go after Iggy vet leader, Defender and can pass then our identity will be Defensive!!!!
Knight
KCP
Iggy
Moose
Andre
Good starting 5 for Defense and you have Mitchell and Siva who are both good defenders

Detroit needs a backup PG and SG (assuming Stuckey is traded & Bynum leaves).
I will be content this summer based on the overall quality. I'd love for Detroit to snag some more shooters.

Igoudola and the Wallace's on coaching staff. I'll be content for awhile.

just need a bonafide #1 scorer at the SF position that is big and long at about 6'8. Not sure Tony Mitchell has the offensive game to be a starting 3 but he should be playing there in defensive situations since he's a freak athletically and him and Drummond are gonna be tough to score on. Obviously Andrew Wiggins would be the obvious choice but hey the Bulls got lucky one year getting Derrick Rose.

Iggy isn't really a leader. The Nuggets were more Ty Lawson and Andre Miller's team than Iggy's. He's a solid starter, and I'd love to have him at the right price, but I don't think he brings more than average offense and lockdown defense to any team.

A starting PG, a starting SG and a starting SF.

Iggy being a leader is debatable, but the Nuggets' offense ran through him. He was instrumental to their success although he didn't have a good year scoring-wise. He was a triple double threat every night. I think if we are keeping Knight at PG and roll with KCP at SG, Iggy at 3 makes a lot of sense. We would have the shooting we need from Knight and KCP, Iguodala could stabilize the offense with his passing and high basketball IQ. That would be a really balanced starting-5 and would make up for Knight's shortcomings at creating for others.

Leadership can come from many places, it doesn't have to just be the players. If they bring in Rasheed, that's a huge boost to leadership. He was a huge locker room voice for Detroit when he was here.
Peyton Siva was a leader for Louisville, and spent his college career under Rick Pitino.
This team's biggest need right now is a TDA small forward that's good enough to start to round out the wings. I don't believe Igoudala is that player. He isn't a good shooter, not really a leader, and is about 90% likely to stay in Denver anyways.
Guys that I think could be acquired through trade that would fit this team's needs are Evan Turner and Boston's Jeff Green. Neither are perfect, but Detroit could probably land them for little more than Stuckey and a second round pick.

Trey Burke is good, but I think he's a Jameer Nelson that's two inches taller. This team needs to mirror its identity to the Pacers'. They don't necessarily have a "point guard", but their system work because they play inside out. We can use players who can score and distribute, if Brandon Knight can turn out to be a George Hill, KCP can turn into a Lance Stephenson with a better mind as well as a better shooter, develop a deeper bench, sign an athletic wing (like a Iguodala for 3 or 4 years), then we are in a prime position to challenge the Pacers for the division.

i know this isnt a popular thought around here lately, but once the teams starts to develop, and be a regular playoff team like we all think it will, i really think knight can be that guy. several occasions he showed a really good 'clutch gene' last season.. and he is someone who really really cares about playing as hard and as smart as he can.
If we can get iggy to fill that starting SF spot like you all mentioned just like that we have another highly balanced, strong defensive team like the other successful pistons teams we've seen, and thats still with another 10-15mil to fill out the rest of the team, which has to be another rotation big such as jj hickson.

Jeff Green. He's a 3 who plays D and distributes well for his position. Plus he and Moose are friends. I think we would have a starting lineup that leads together if we get Green.

YES!!! This, this would be part of my dream offseason. Don't know if he's on the block or even touchable, but I've liked him since his time in Georgetown.
