2014 NBA DRAFT. GO FOR IT OR NO.

Post#1 » by bkseven » Fri Jun 28, 2013 6:17 pm

Top 8 protected pick in the 2014 draft and the Pistons need to keep it.

DO NOT SIGN CALDERON. Let Brandon Knight play ONE MORE full season. If all fails, there are top level talented point guards in the 2014 draft (i.e. Andrew Harrison and Marcus Smart). IF Brandon shows great improvement, then good! Draft a small forward in the 2014 draft, which also has promising players.

One more year of a top 8 PICK right??

This is the BEST IDEA to not land the Pistons in the mediocrity-ville. Calderon won't cut it. Boston and Philly blew up their rosters for a reason. We shouldn't try to be where they were, which is boarderline playoff zone.

Save the cap space, sign some vet mentors/backups, let the kids play. If they win and make the playoffs cool, if they lose, we get a decent pick.

Not sure I could handle a full blown tank....

Well Charlotte will probably get the pick then.

I voted no. I'm sick of the Pistons being bad. We have a chance to sign some good free agents and potentially be good next season. If we deliberately were bad or went with the young guys and ended up missing the playoffs, there's no guarantee that we'd be bad enough to keep the draft pick. Not to mention you run the risk of Monroe getting fed up and wanting out. To me, it's just not worth it. We need to get valuable free agents now and make the playoffs next season.

We'd land in the 8th spot and whomever is in the 9th spot would leapfrog us to the top pick, dropping us to 9 causing us to lose the pick all together.

We're still far from a good team. Even if we try to win, I don't think we're making the play-offs. And given the current make-up, an injury to one of Monroe or Drummond and we're probably looking at a top five pick.

We're still a VERY flawed team.

We really need to become a playoff team this year. Not sure Monroe resigns with us after 4 years of being a lottery team. We have to take a step forward with this group and this is the year we have to do it.

Dumars is under the gun.

He won't tank this team because if he does he's out of a job. We're going for it.

We still have flaws, but we were competing for the #8 spot for a while until Drummond went down. All we need is a good quality SF like Iggy, Jeff Green, etc. and to add some depth and I think we can compete. Boston and Philly are both in rebuilding mode. Milwaukee is about to lose Jennings and Ellis, so I doubt they make the playoffs. Atlanta is about to lose Josh Smith and won't be able to resign any high profile free agents (aka Chris Paul/Dwight Howard) so I doubt they make it. Orlando and Charlotte for sure won't make it next season. That leaves 3 playoff spots for us, Cleveland, Washington and Toronto to fight over. We have a better shot than you're giving us.

Imo these are the teams that will full on tank and will be worse than us 99%

1. Boston
2. Charlotte
3. Orlando
4. Philly
5. Hawks
6. Bucks
7. Kings

There is probably at least one more team who will tank as well. We're losing that pick regardless

Tanking is weak. Do what we have to do to become a better team now a in the future without having a loser's mentality ( ala tanking)

In a draft with at least 3 franchise changers, absolutely you should go for it.

I think we will be too good to keep our pick though off just Monroe & Drummond's natural improvement alone.

Thinking we are definitely losing our pick to Charlotte next season.

Even if we do NOTHING more this offseason:

Knight / Stuckey / Siva (basically the same as last season)
KCP / Stuckey / English (BETTER than last season)
Singler / Middleton (basically the same as last season)
Monroe / Mitchell / Jerebko / CV (BETTER than last season)
Drummond / Kravtsov (basically the same as last season)

PG = Knight hopefully progesses, Stuckey is primary backup, Siva emergency guy
SG = KCP is better than anyone we had play SG last season + Stuckey and English backup
SF = Singler and hopefully Middleton progresses should just about equal whatever Prince gave us
PF = Monroe moving here + the addition of Mitchell and subtraction of Maxiell = HUGE upgrade.
C = Hopefully Drummond progresses to the point where his contributions equal what Monroe did at C last year. (less O, more D)

We've already upgraded SG and PF and stayed the same everywhere else.

I don't think there is a choice here anyways, as I recently read somewhere that all teams are required to spend 90% of their capspace this year under the new CBA.

I doubt the Pistons could be worse than Boston, Philly or Bobcats much less a bunch of other teams who flat out suck.

2014 is also super overrated after the top 5.

1.Wiggins
2. Parker
3. Randle
4. Harrison
5. Young

...and atleast one won't live up to the hype. We're not getting a top 3 pick so why tank for average prospects.

The guys at the top are superstars/all-star level prospects. Still starter level/ boarderline all star talent below them. 4 years of in the 7-9 range and getting knocked down one spot for two of the years could mean it's time for the pistons to land in the to 3
