Pistons interested in Josh Smith

Call me crazy, but I think the Pistons will trade Greg Monroe for either a high quality PG or SF. As many people have said, Smith doesn't fit at SF. And if we WERE to sign him, we'd either have to bring him, Monroe, or Drummond off the bench, all of which are unlikely. And with all of Joe's talk about us needing to get athletic, I think that it's very possible he wants to make us an elite athletic team and right now Monroe is our least athletic starter.
Obviously I'd rather we didn't trade Monroe, however depending on who we get this could actually be a very good move on Joe's part.

Re: Pistons interested in Josh Smith
There's no need to trade Monroe, as Smith could start at SF, then rotate to PF when Monroe goes to the bench. Maybe they are considering dealing Monroe for Rondo and using Smith to replace him. I love Monroe but if we could get Rondo and Smith instead, I'd probably do it. This is shaping up to be an exciting free agency.

Re: Pistons interested in Josh Smith
Smith can play the first 8 minutes of the game as starting SF... of which his size will be good against big SF's like Pierce, Lebron, and Melo who are the top teams in the east. Then he can backup the PF spot for the rest of his minutes and this also allows Moose to play backup C and gives us 48 minutes of great C and PF play rather than relying on someone like Jonas or CV to play PF.
C: Dre 36 MPG / Moose 12 MPG
PF: Moose 26 MPG / Smith 22 MPG
SF:Smith 16 MPG/Backups 32 MPG
Total MPG Smith 38, Moose 38, Dre 36
Would work out perfect for us IMO.

Re: Pistons interested in Josh Smith
I don't know if I trust Smiths jumper enough for him to start at SF. I'd much rather have Iggy at SF. That said, our team clearly needs to add all the talent we can, and adding Josh Smith is nothing to turn our noses up at. However I think it would require some kind of corresponding move if it does happen.

Exactly, anyone who thinks he can't play 15 minutes a game at SF is kidding themselves. As long as he can guard the position, which he can, he will be fine just to start halves.

I hate his playing style. Dumb, chucks up a lot of jumpers which he can't make, risks his defensive stance to get steals or blocks.

Re: Pistons interested in Josh Smith
If they traded Monroe, they would be impotent in the paint. Drummond's not ready to be "the man" every night.
I can't say it's impossible. We have CV-DNP on this team.

This could be a fake rumor because Dumars has always had a man-crush on Josh Smith...If it's real, I wouldn't mind signing Smith to our team...Our defense would suffocate opposing teams...Plus, Smith's a clear upgrade compared Singler and Middleton...

Re: Pistons interested in Josh Smith
not excited about josh smith. with monroe and drummond you need a lot of floor spacing. would imagine he would start at the 3 and then play a lot of backup 4, but i dont think that works.
saying that, if iggy cant happen, smith wouldnt be the worst option, but also need to explore guys like jeff green, and wilson chandler. will be interesting to see how it goes.

Hate it, and it would eventually mean this IMO:
Monroe/Drummond
Smith
Monroe/Drummond
Smith

Smith at SF with Monroe and Drummond inside would be absolutely awful.
I mean... wow, crazy bad idea.

Not a fan of josh smith, I think hes one of the most overated players in the nba. I would rather sign iggy, trade for bledsoe and sign chris kaman to backup drummond.
Detroit vs Everybody

Re: Pistons interested in Josh Smith
If we are bringing Smith in, its because Joe wants t start him as a SF- which is ridiculous. I could totally see Joe D planning to give Smith 15 minutes at SF and 15 at PF.
If we had a Smith/Monroe/Drummond frontcourt- we would need absolute snipers at the 1-2 and backup 3 spot. Im talking knock down shooters. Defensively- Smith/Monroe/Drummond would be amazing but offensively, a nightmare.
I like Josh Smith a lot as a player- I think he's underrated and is one of the best PF's in the game because hes so versatile- he can put the ball in the hoop, he rebounds, he can pass and he is a very good defensive player but given that we already have 2 young bigs- I don't think he's a great fit.
I would hate this starting lineup: Knight/KCP/Smith/Monroe/Drummond
But I wouldnt hate this secondary lineup at all : Knight/KCP/Shooter/Smith/Monroe

Re: Pistons interested in Josh Smith
A few things:
-- Joe didn't get that cap space for nothing, and i think he'll see this off season as a failure unless he brings home one of the big time guys with that space. If Iggy isn't available/attainable, then Smith is the next best talent. Not sure Joe even cares about stuff like a team identity or concept at this point. He wants his big names.
-- Smith has never played outside of an ATL system that sort of catered to his current style of play. He's always been allowed to handle the ball and float on the perimeter until he picks his spots for slashing. A change of scenery could be a good thing, but I think it's more likely that we see how limited Smith is within a team concept that doesn't play his way. Sort of like Carlos Boozer on Chicago.
--The article lists us as one of 5-6 suitors, so there's no need to panic yet.
