"tell the world, we're ready to spend"

When is this gonna happen? Cheaped out on coach, not spending to get rid of Suckey...

I fear free agency will play out like the coaching search...we'll be mentioned with decent options (Iggy, Bledsoe) but we'll end up with left-overs (Ariza, Delfino)

So far White Man Fro Gores has been pretty damned cheap.

Bill Davidson's death has destroyed this franchise. The absolute worst thing that could have happened was the team being bought by someone who knows nothing at all about basketball or how the NBA works.
I have defended Joe D forever but Stucky returning is the last straw for me with him.
The only hope now is if Gores sells ASAP.

Free agency hasn't even begun. Complain afterwards

This^

You can't spend it before you have it. Also, was the details of Cheeks' contract ever released? How do we know he was "cheap"?

It really isn't his call entirely. It's not play money, it's Gores' cash, and his to ultimately decide on.

Also, Stuckey is better used as a trade chip at this point.

He spent to keep Stuckey. $4M to go away, but he paid him $8.5M to stay. That's what he meant by "tell the world, we're ready to spend".

In all seriousness, free agency hasn't even opened up yet. I don't have high hopes at all with this off-season or Gores at all to tell you the truth, but at least we should wait and see how it all plays out.

 Wait until all the free agents are gone before you get upset.

Stuckey is in a contract year so he should get off his ass and play well for us this year. And if he does that, he will be a good trade chip at the trade deadline which is half the season, or about half his salary, so anything we get for him at the trade dealine is better than just waiving him now.

The pistons are only just starting to get out of the contract issues created by joe when Ms D was still the owner. I think Gores meant that he is willing to spend if we are in contention. Why would anyone pay more for a subpar product. That's like paying for a Mercedes but getting a ford.

I hope we don't sign iggy or jsmith this offseason as I think we are a year away from having a real crack at playoffs so I would prefer to spend the money next year on a player that is younger and will have more time at their prime in Detroit. Both the two guys I mentioned above are going to start their decline very soon.

Neither DNP-CV nor Stuckey will get traded. Joe hasn't moved a player on an expiring contract for anything meaningful since the Sheed trade (almost a decade ago). The last time I remember him trading an expiring deal during the season was when he move Primo Brezec for Juan Dixon 6 years ago. Gores is showing himself to be a cheap ass. We would be in the exact same position salary cap wise had we just amnestied Gordon instead of trading him and a first for Corey Maggette. Only difference is that Gores would've had to spend money. **** this guy. "We're going to spend" because we are below the cap and HAVE to not because Gores wants to win.

$15M is serious money even for a billionaire.

Do I sense sarcasm? The Internet doesn't convey hyperflexion very well.

I don't know, I haven't had a good look at who is available so I could be wrong on picking up someone who is younger with more upside. My issue with igoudala and josh smith is that both of their games are essentially based on their athleticism. Neither are great shooters and while they both have great skills I don't see them having a decline like Paul pierce who uses skill over athleticism to beat his player. Both guys are good defenders but this is again something to do with their athleticism. My main issue (particularly iggy) is that they will lose some of that athleticism in the next three years.
We also don't need to get out guy from free agency, we could always trade for this guy using our capspace.

Amen, Bardobeing. WTF is wrong with Joe Dumars? And don't give me any BS excuses about the free agency signing period not starting yet. Bardobeing and are fully aware that if Gores wasa truly a big spender, he would've given money to a PAC that would've in turn strong-armed the NBA into changing the signing rules. Then he would have left a trail of $700 bills from the porch of every free agent leading all the way down to the Palace, where he would let them hunt his personal stash of endangered species and feast on it for dinner with truffles, caviar, and diamond encrusted seared tuna. He would've commissioned Van Gogh to come back from the grave and paint each one a personal basketball card of them in a Pistons uniform and hooked 'em all up with a pair of original Reebok Pumps.

Barbobeing and I know this is how things would've gone down if Gores was a true spender. We certainly wouldn't be having this lame*ss "Let's sit around and wait until Free Agency begins before signing anyone" argument, that's for damn sure. 3 cheers for Bardobeing, for telling it like it is! Hip hip....

The Bobcats! will use the amnesty on Tyrus Thomas to sign Al Jefferson. Frank also is now the most well paid assistant coach in the league now (and should reduce his salary he still gets from the Pistons) If youre going to talk the talk youve got to walk the walk, amnesty Charlie NOW! Do something, use that capspace before its gone to waste, take a risk, sign a restricted FA like Teague before its too late!

While I too would like to see us do something... this is the type of attitude that landed us BG and CV on ungodly contracts.

I think we sign Smith/Iggy/Mayo or we use our capspace in a trade.
