Pistons Keep Stuckey............

I have no idea why we did this, he's just taking up cap space and giving nothing valuable to our team. I hope we can trade this idiot during the season.

Nobody that used basic logic expected him to be released.

He has more value as trade bait, or a backup than just paying him 4 million to go play for someone else.

I wish I had a clue what the #$%^ Dumars is doing.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

I hope we trade him before the season starts, if not then maybe he can play well so his trade value goes up before the trade deadline.

Just looking at the team, my guess is that we sign an SF (obviously) and then probably either a backup big or backup SG, so I fully expect Stuckey to be our backup (or starting) PG for the season.

He's a great trading chip with a solid upside on the right team... Unless we've already ruined him, which is a very real possibility. I do agree with you guys; I want to see him go.

Only downside, and it might be a sizable one, is that with Stuckey here, he will likely get a majority of the SG minutes in an effort to 'showcase' him with KCP getting fewer minutes.

Hopefully Stuckey plays a solid first few weeks so we trade him quickly.

He is an expiring contract now in my eyes. Hopefully hes traded before the end of the week.

With a line up of
pg-stuckey
sg-kcp
sf-mitchel
pf-moose
c-dre
That is pretty athletic/dominate team and with cheeks he could do something for stuck.

Stuckey or no Stuckey, expecting KCP to start right away isn't realistic.

I put this in another thread, but if we did pay Stuckey 4m not to play for us, that isn't much different than paying him 4-5m for half his year's salary and then trade him for something mid season. so I'd rather get a future second or something.

One more thing, he needs to play well this year since he is a free agent next year. I expect him to be on his best behavior and have a great season with us, possibly even being our starting PG. Regardless, he is not in our long term plans and will not be on our team by the end of the year.

answer this. if you could sign stuckey for 4.5mil over 1 year would you do it? probably. he is worth that much atleast, and by waiving him thats what we save. so either we pay 4mil for him not to play, or an extra 4.5 to have him. we may aswell keep him.

If hes as good as people are saying then iam sure he will win the spot in no time and if hes not any better than stuck, knight, singler joe really got this draft wrong.

Its not really about how good his, its about how much the coaching staff trusts him. Not a lot rookies start right away, or play 30 plus minutes. Its just the way things are around the league.

Someone school me. If Stuckey were to get cut before today we'd save 4.5 mill but if we keep him and let him go in the off season we save 8 mill?

If thats the case, isn't it logical to keep him?

He sucks. He's a cancer. We could use that extra cap space to get a much better player. FÜck a Stuck.

If we cut him, he'd be on the books for 4 million, saving 4.5 million immediately. At the end of the season, the rest of the 4 million comes off the books. (Total gone at the end 8.5 million).

Since we kept him, his 8.5 is fully guaranteed and will come off the books at the end of the season. (8.5 million off the books total.) It was simply about 4 more million in capspace right now.

no, at the end of the year his 8.5mil contract is fully paid. just like any other, we dont save it, your paying him that. he is then out of contract and would have to sign a new one.
if we were to cut stuckey yesterday we still wouldve had to pay him 4mil rather than the 8.5mil, saving 4.5 but obviously, he gets cut and can go play elsewhere.
