If we're giving up Brandon Knight AND Greg Monroe, I want Damian Lillard, not Nicolas Batum. Wesley Matthews would definitely be a good pickup , same with Leonard being the backup, but we'd have no PG after this trade.

I really like Batum, but I'll pass on this. I think Greg is an All Star next year. Just have to be patient until February 15th when the Monroe trade threads cease. By then the Josh Smith ones will officially start. It doesn't hurt to give our current front court a try before writing it off.

This deal is awful for us. We give up an all-star Center for 3 average role players.

It seems no matter where I look I find the most damning statistics on Knight... like dead last for all starters when it comes to anything passing.

I love his potential!

I'll hope for the best if he's our guy... because if Knight figures it out he will be EXACTLY the player we are dreaming of someday pairing with Drummond.

I don't think Batum and Matthews are average role players.

On last years roster they both would have started for us. This year too. Our best players would have been 1)Monroe 2)Drummond 3)Batum 4)Matthews.... Average role players? Batum is still only 24. Matthews was #11 overall in the NBA in 3's made. Batum was #13. Out of everyone.

Plus Leonard... Who is another VERY athletic big (7'1"!!)with range who was drafted #11 overall just last year! Average role player now but he has a ton of potential to improve into an offensive weapon.

I get that the deal is good for Portland, I think they might be a great trading partner for us if Joe decides to trade Monroe and doesn't wanna go all in with Rondo or Gay. Neither can shoot like Batum or Matthews. Maybe we need a 3rd team to lock a PG like Teague(or Ridnour?) into the deal? Or amnesty Charlie and sign Teague?

Quotes from Portland's board...

" I would be ecstatic if we got a player like Monroe in the middle to play along side LaMarcus."

"Gosh it'd be a dream to have someone like Monroe on this team, I'd certainly have to entertain something like this and I'd be pretty inclined to accept it."

"Josh smith might have been the worst player Detroit could've signed for their needs considering that he's more of a PF than an SF and if they move him to SF they are forced to rely heavily on the guards to pick up the slack from the perimeter. The gameplan for any Detroit opponent has to be to play zone D all day and let the pistons try to beat them from the outside so from that standpoint I get this proposal. That said I don't necessarily get why Dumars didn't just stick with the young talent he has and find a 3 pt shooter at the 3 and play Monroe at the 4 rahter than sign Josh smith to that ridiculoous deal."

You guys don't like this roster to build around?

C - Andre Drummond / Meyers Leonard
PF - Josh Smith / Tony Mitchell
SF - Nicolas Batum / Kyle Singler / Khris Middleton
PG - Jeff Teague / Will Bynum
SG - Wesley Matthews / Kentavious Caldwell-Pope

A piston fan proposed this? Come on guys....

Batum is on a terrible deal created by Minny attempting to overpay. Meyers is a project and Matthews is a run of the mill 3 & D guy. We could likely land Rondo & filler for Monroe and you want to just deal him for filler?

more than half the league loves monroe. but he is no more valuable than next to drummond, which is why we keep him and not panic because we signed a tweener in josh smith.

there is a chance josh smith will be dedicated to being able to play the 3 in detroit now, and he works really hard on his jumper and his perimeter game this offseason. i dont see it happening, because i dont feel like thats the sort of guy josh smith is, but theres a chance. we have to see how it works for a while, and if by mid-season its still not showing any good signs, thats when we look at our options

Greg monroe is not going anywhere, hes a big part of the pistons future. I also love the smith signing because now we have 2 big men who can really pass.

If Pistons traded Monroe for Aldridge, they'd be a 50 win team this season. Aldridge is another defensive upgrade and his mid range shooting compliments Smith and Drummond while still creating major size mis-matches. qThat's the only Blazer I'm interested in.

Take out Knight and Matthews, I think I could do it. Leonard would be a solid back-up center and Batum is excellent SF who could be a legit second option for us. I like the thinking here but I'm not sure Portland would be down. No way we get Lillard, sorry for that.
