Trade to push us into title contenders this year?

Detroit trades:
Stuckey (expiring) $8.5
CV (expiring) $8.6
Jonas $4.5
Knight $2.8
Slava $1.5
Two future firsts and two future seconds.

LA trades:
Kobe Bryant ($30.45 million) agreeing to a 2 year $50 million extension.

Trades must be within 125% of eachothers salary

Detroit outgoing salary is $25.9 million times 1.25 = $32.37 since KOBE makes less than that it satisfies the trade.

Why for LA? Kobe is taking about not wanting to take a pay cut. LA is a hot free agent destination and their money could be better spent having MAX capspace next summer.... They decide to move Nash + Gasol for expirings and picks as well and tank for one season while looking to add a Lebron James next summer who can custom pick his team and teammates. It also brings them down out of the luxury tax this year.

Why for Detroit? This trade instantly sells out the Palace for the year and gives Detroit a legit chance in the playoffs against anyone if Kobe is on.

C:Drummond/Monroe
PF:Monroe/Smith/Mitchell
SF:Smith/Singler/Middleton
SG:Kobe/KCP
PG:Billups/Bynum

Balances out our roster and gives us a nice 10 man rotation.

1, You'd have to give up Drummond to get Kobe most likely as it stand. 2, I think they would have to had resigned Dwight for this to even be possible. 3. With that said, Monroe, KCP, and Knight plus picks mostly likely would have to have gone that way. 4, EPIC fail.

he is only gonna play for 2-3 more years you dont have to give Dre. It's most likely not happening forKobe to Retire a Laker

Kobe doesn't have much trade value right now IMO... He's in the last year of a $30+ million contract and he's saying he doesn't want to take a pay cut.

That means he wants to eat up 50% of the Lakers capspace next year.

Very few teams would have any interest in Kobe at $30 million and ever fewer have large expiring contracts the Lakers would likely want. There is maybe 4 or 5 teams in the NBA that could realistically swing deals for Kobe.

I would rather try to make a trade for Joe Johnson - 2 years younger and not paid near as much.

Obviously its not very realistic at all... but it does really balance out our roster... and gives us a player who people will come and pay to see.

Kobe has a no trade clause and I don't see him waiving it. He will retire a Laker, as he should.

kobe has to retire a laker. as a huge fan, i wouldnt want it any other way.
i wish kobe was a piston as a fan, but hes not leaving L.A and it really doesnt make a lot of sense for us either, sure hes great and given he comes back from his achilles strong he might be good for 1,2, maybe 3 seasons, but considering we're a team with about 3 or 4 guys not on a rookie contract, that window doesnt make sense. i like the course we are on, lets see how it goes.

Honestly, while I love the moves Joe has made this offseason and I love the future of this team, we're too young right now to be a title contender this year. By next season, it's conceivable that we'll be a legitimate darkhorse contender, but this season is really about the development of the core guys and all of them learning a new system and how to play and fit together.

So, I wouldn't make any more huge moves this season. If I'm Joe, I make fine tuning moves, and gear up some trades to add future #1 picks. I wait to use Stuckey and CV's expiring contracts and take back a contract from a team trying to get under the cap for the 2014 free agency class in return for one or two future #1 picks.

Let's just worry about cracking the Top 6 playoff seeds first.

That, and accumulating as many tradeable assets and future flexibility as possible.

I hope Siva goes to play in Europe. I hope that we can showcase our guys like Singler, Middleton, Datone and JJ enough so they are seen as attractive players for other teams since it seems like only 1 or 2 of them will get a lot of PT with Detroit over the next couple years. Any of them could become long term core players with us, but only a couple of them are likely to be kept by us.

Nor should we unless we bring back a young all-star PG.

Not that it would ever happen in a million years, but you wouldn't trade Knight for even Kobe Bryant? What is it with you and Knight? Are y'all related?

I wouldn't trade knight for a 37 year old kobe who is near the end of his career.

That's insane. I'd trade Knight for Kobe in a heart beat. Kobe still has a few years of above average basketball left in him. Knight has none.

It's not like the trade would ever happen, kobe was traded to the pistons in 07 was it? And he used his no trade clause to stay in la. But still for the short term kobe would be nice yes but if b knight can develope into a good pg he is much better for us in the longterm.
