We Need to Trade for an Expensive SG/SF

Post#1 » by Piston Pete » Thu Jul 11, 2013 4:09 pm

We need to make a 2 or 3-for-1 trade netting us an expensive SG/SF upgrade. We can offer expirings (CV and/or Stuckey) and young players on tiny contracts (English, Singler, Siva?)

The one name that come to mind first is Joe Johnson (Brooklyn) -- and he might be the most ideal fit out there. If Brooklyn trades him, they could promote Brooks into the starting lineup and fill out their bench with our guys. Something like Stuckey/Jerebko/Singler or Stuckey/CV/Singler might work for them....

Other names might include Gallinari, Eric Gordon, or Granger, perhaps?

Any other guys out there who might be available? I don't think Kobe or Wade are realistic targets for obvious reasons.

Joe Johnson is WAY to old go younger try Gordon.

Johnson and Smith together gives me too much of a Hawks retread feeling. I like Eric Gordon and Granger.

Granger wouldn't make sense. Indiana doesn't want out junk. Stuckey is debatable. The pelicans flipping Gordon seems doable but he's just so god damn fragile and expensive.

Johnson could be KCP's mentor. We could keep him until his deal expires....and by that time, KCP should be ready to step in.

I agree that it'd be to much like the Hawks team I wouldn't be super excited about it. I get where you are coming from I just don't like the fit.

Does anyone know what Afflalo makes? I'd love him next to Knight in the starting backcourt. I kinda wish we didn't resign Bynum. Stuckey will probably be eating minutes he doesn't deserve, lol. Would rather have someone who can shoot having SG minutes.

We could make a trade for Afflalo work. I think they are looking to add depth at PG and C, so something like Stuckey + Siva + Krav could appeal to them.

I really don't like the idea of bringing in a guy like Joe Johnson. Would rather keep cap room to maintain flexibility. Plus we will have to extend Moose/Dre and possibly Knight at some point.

If we bring in another SG who loses their minutes?

Nic Batum can't be acquired with our junk contracts. Portland will want a future first rounder, and probably a blue chipper in return as well.

Indy isn't giving Granger away. He's already on an expiring deal, so you're not going to entice them with financial flexibility, especially as a division rival who is quickly picking up steam and hype as a playoff contender.

Not sure why ANYONE wants Eric Gordon? When he was healthy, he could get 20 PPG, sure. When was the last time he was healthy? He's never even played anything closely resembling a full season, and he's not a max contract player getting paid like a max contract player- ALWAYS a bad move.

Absolutely. A lot of people around here seem to have a one-season attention span.

Tying up a bunch of money into a player that the team may not even need is what Hank Hill would call "asinine".

Dumars is giving Knight every opportunity to succeed this season, having Cheeks and Billups to mentor him. KCP is a tenacious defensive player at worst. Stuckey is still here, and while he had a terrible season, Frank had him all over the place, playing PG, SG and ever small forward (wtf, Frank!?!). Cheeks seems high on Stuck, and I'm finally high on the locker room atmosphere again.

I just don't see the need to make a big move, unless it's consolidating some unnecessary players to free up a roster spot.

Afflalo makes the most sense. He is young, plays great D, hits a high percentages of outside j's & 3's. Orlando trying to make Oladipo into a PG also makes no sense.. Trade for Stuck and allow Oladipo to develop as a SG.

IF the plan is to get Monroe long term the answer is no. If we are trading him at some point than yes but i'd only deal DNP-CV and Stuck.

The Ops point is we need to add salary to reach the min salary requirements.
