What do we do now? Is DNP-CV a full rotation guy now? DO we include him in a deal? I dunno what to make of this.

I expected this, no point in using the amnesty on him. Either he gets traded or he plays out his contract and we get some nice capspace next season.

I would keep his and Stuckey's expiring contract and see if we can make a trade before the deadline. I want both Stuckey and CV out of the rotation though.

I kind understand why they're not going to use it on Villanueva. At this point there aren't any free agents left that are worth the cap space that using the amnesty clause on Villanueva would create (yes I realize Ellis hasn't signed yet) and he might even be useful this year as a shooter with Smith in the game at SF. About the only thing that using the amnesty clause on Villanueva would do at this point would be creating cap room to help facilitate a trade where Detroit brings back more salary than they're sending out. Don't get me wrong that could be big but I would bet they're probably only interested in deals that involve them sending out Stuckey and/or Villanueva as expirings plus a real asset or two.

The best reason to use the amnesty is that teams still want to get under the luxury tax or they want to create capspace to sign players. We could have amnestied him and had another team trade us a player they want off their cap and a first round pick.

An example of this would be a deal like where a team decides they want to offer Ellis or Jennings a contract but needs to create a little more capspace so they look to a team like us.

No matter what capspace is probably going to be more appealing to teams in trade that what Charlie V brings to the table.

As it was pointed out, Aldridge was wrong on his assumed reasoning as amnestied players salary would count against the 90% salary floor.

Charlie is in a contract year - does he want to make the room MLE going forward or does he want to trick another team into giving him $5-6M on a 3-4 year contract. He won't turn 29yo until next month and is a legit stretch four, with the league enamored with three point shooters, having a 6'11" 240lb player being a 35% career three-ball shooter, if he gives an effort this year, there will be a market for him in the off-season.

I think he would love to have been amnestied - to catch on to a bad team for the final year of his deal where he'd get 20+mpg as their first big off the bench if not as their starter stretch four.

What sucks is we're out a 2014 draft pick when we could have just created capspace by amnestying Ben Gordon.

These two expiring are going to look real good to some desperate team come February. Or maybe even before season starts. I really thought CV was going to be amnestied but I guess Gores is cheaper than we thought.

No reason to amnesty him now as there's no one worth 8 mil left in FA that we need the capspace for. I expect him to just ride the bench next year as a reserve stretch 4 that can space the court situationally when need. Other than that he will probably just keep the bench warm until we either find a trade for him or he expires. With Drummond, Monroe, and Smith figuring to take all of the frontcourt minutes, there's just no room for him to play.

I hope Joe D has at least called around to see what that capspace could get him. Someone like Aaron Afflalo might have been able to have been had in a straight up trade for a guy like Singler if we wanted to take back his contract without sending anyone out because Orlando isn't going anywhere soon an AA has a decent chunk of money owed to him.

Even Toronto would find a Singler, Stuckey duo more apprealing via trade (for Gay) than a Stuckey-CV duo because it would give them a young player with upside and save them $7 million more this year which I'm sure ownership would appreciate.

$15M out of Gores pocket if Gordon was amnestied. If we make the play-offs, than $15M for the 17-18th pick is probably a good deal.

Someone would have paid Gordon 5-10 million for 2 seasons easily so those 15 million are more like 5-10 million for a lightly protected pick.

Not amnestying CV is horrible considering we gifted a 1st round pick in a strong draft to get rid of BG. Awful.

I feel like someone would have bid $4- $5 million a year on Gordon to add as a shooter off the bench.

Maggette made $11 million last year compared to BG's $12.4 million so the trade saved Detroit $1.4 million last year and $13.2 million this year which is $14.6 million.

But a pure amnesty if someone would have bid $5 million per year for two years would have saved Detroit $10 million so really there is only an extra savings of $4.6 million.

Worst case would probably have been a $4 million bid per year (he did just drop 45 points a few months earlier)... which would have put selling that pick at $6.6 million.

Either way, its sad to see us sell out our pick for money. At the draft when we have no first to add to our team Dumars and Co better have the green light to throw in $3 million in a trade to help us move into the first round.

A new owner of a team in desperate need of talent selling a potential lottery pick for cash is a bad look no matter how you slice it.

You guys are crazy. we got Smith, the Italian, Bynum, and Chauncey nd still have two huge assets with thoseexpiring contracts, so we can make a trade anytime some good player our draft pick becomes available. We've has a great postseason so far, and have kept a lot of flexibility going forward, and there's whining about Joe?

Not surprised, for reasons that've been discussed (need a stretch 4, CV being motivated by a contract year, no one to spend the money on and teams being motivated to tank/clear cap/avoid tax bills).

I echo the disappointment regarding the Gordon deal. I'm pleased with our offseason but I've seen nothing to change my stance on Gores being a cheap owner looking to make a quick buck.

Any complaints about Joe are misguided, I think Gores is the one we need to worry about.

Hes a great expiring, no need to amnesty & be forced to spend that money on something else out there & lose that expiring.

Let him play his normal water boy role until we find a deal for his expiring.

His and Stuckey's contracts make us the #1 call for anybody needing to dump salary. I can live with it - as long as Joe USES the expirings to get us someone worthwhile.
