He seemed consistent throughout college and the summer league in my eyes. Do you guys see him bumping Jerebko as our 2nd string PF or should we split his minutes between sf/pf

Consistent? Well I think consistency is what dropped him to the second round...on talent alone he is arguably a top-10 pick in this draft.
As to the second part, he should get every chance to compete for the rotation at either spot. I love the athleticism and all-around game and him and Dre in the paint gets me all excited. I do expect CV to be the primary backup 4 though. Mitchell will play some this season, but this is probably more a learning in practice year, especially given that we seem to be attempting competitiveness

he has LOTS of things to improve (strength, rotations)
in SL, sometimes he seemed lost on the court and uncompetitive but i guess rookies gonna be rookies
hope it's not the motor thing
but i definitely want him over Jerebko, charlie V

Jerebko should probably be traded if he has any value. Villanueva's shooting makes him the better backup PF this season. And Mitchell plays a similar game to Jerebko (mid-range game + hustle) but his athleticism should make him better at it. I like Mitchell and think he could be ready to be the backup PF starting next season. However, this notion that he's an SF needs to stop. He doesn't enough lateral quickness to be an SF.

I was a huge Jerebko fan his rookie season, but since his injury he's plateaued if not regressed. He'll never be more than an 8th/9th man on a decent team and is easily replaceable.
I dunno what sort of player Mitchell will be, but at this point I'll take the unknown quantity with potential over JJ. The difference between the two won't make us or break us and I could use a little more excitement.

I can see JJ outplaying him... knowledge counts... pump fakes... motor... ability to hit from range... we'll see.

I think CV should be the primary backup(besides when Smith switches over) like others have said. CV along with Drummond and Bynum formed a nice 2nd unit for you last season. But Smith will be backing up the 4 as well so I hope Mitchell gets decent minutes. He should.
Monroe/Smith/CV/Mitchell
Drummond/Monroe/Slava
try to get something for Jerebko

Tony's pure athletic ability is scary. He owned the instant replay moments of every summer league game the Pistons played -- but unfortunately most of them were waved off, either because of poorly timed whistles or minor mistakes on his part. He needs some seasoning and a bit more discipline, but he has all the makings of an explosive 6th man if he keeps his head down and stays hungry.
Honestly, next to Dre he was easily the most impressive part of our summer league roster. He showed flashes of raw talent that far surpassed the other players on the court (minus Dre). If he can really tap into that consistently, he's going to be a scary player.

I have to agree that Mitchell should be higher on the rotation list than JJ. CV should be getting some minutes at the 4 or even the 5 because of his ability to stretch the floor, and Mitchell (although someone to be excited about) should play in the D league and this year. That leaves JJ out of the rotation completely, which he's not going to like.

i love these threads. Mitchell is a 2nd round pick that has underachieved his whole career. He played decently against players that are trying out for bench minutes and all of a sudden he's better than 2 players that have had impressive games against legit competition. Mitchell is athletic and fun to watch, but theirs a lot lacking and it will be exposed at the next level.
i do think he has the ability to crack our rotation, however his lack of offensive threat and a improved JJ will keep him on the bench and mostly used for defensive purposes when teams go small

He is an elite athlete with good length. But he looks very undersized on the court. At times, I thought he isn't even 6-8. Maybe he's a better SF than PF, especially on the defensive end at next level.
Or maybe he'll play a Jason Maxiell role as an undersized, high energy big coming off the bench. But that limits his ceiling
In long run, I hope he can develop a good perimeter game and plays as a SF. He'll be a great defender at the 3 spot. It's better than being another undersized 4 in NBa

An improved JJ? When did this happen?
Mitchell has a shot at PT if he rebounds, plays D and knocks down 15-20 jumpers.

6-8 is still small for a PF. it will be even more difficult for him if he cant knock down mid-range jumpers.
its ok for him to be an undersized, high energy big off the bench (without ability to spread the floor) but i dont see how he can eventually develop into a starter in NBA. i think his ceiling is not as high as people think.

I don't think whether Mitchell is better than Jerebko should be the defining element here. In fact, I hardly think it matters at all.
I think the more important question is... has Jerebko already peaked?
I get that Dumars/Cheeks will be more interested in W's and that means JJ/CV. Just doesn't excite me.

Smith/Mitchell/Drummond = Excitement!!!
And honestly, how big a difference will our 8th/9th man really make in terms of W/L? If Jerebko is the secret key to our success and playoff aspirations then we got issues.

If Mitchell earns playing time he will play. I love that we drafted Mitchell, I want the Pistons to sign him to a 3 year deal like the one Middleton got.

JJ has yet to show a consistent jump shot, if he brings that to the table he provides a lot more. i don't see what peak has to do with this discussion. As of today, mitchell i don't think is mentally ready
