Wizards Coach Wittman: "We need to find a stretch four."

“We need to find a stretch-four. That’s always good to have the ability to go big, which we can obviously with Emeka (Okafor), Nene or Kevin (Seraphin). A situation where you can bang people, but you also want to have the ability where you can stretch the floor especially with the players we have now on the perimeter with John (Wall) and Bradley (Beal).”
Hmm... What are the chances they want DNP-CV? Think both sides can work out a deal?

CV for Ariza could probably work, but we already have a log-jam of mediocrity backing up at the 3. and as sad as it is, we're probably going to need CV as our stretch 4 this year, especially with Smith playing SF.

Interesting, but after spending a couple of minutes playing with the Trade Machine, I can't find anything that blows my skirt up. Sure, we could swap CV for Ariza (both on expiring contracts), but why? And I couldn't find a three team deal that worked, either. Tempting as this is because he fits the description of what Wittman wants, I think CV's real value is coupled with Stuckey; in short, we should be able to command a whole lot more for $17M in expiring contracts than if we peddle them off at $8.5 a piece.

I agree with everything that's been said so far. We can get more value for CV if we package him with another player and go for a high profile "overpaid" player. We don't need another average backup SF as we already have Singler, MIddleton, and Gigi. They don't really have anyone who we could realistically get that would be a better fit than CV. He's currently our best fit as the backup PF.

I'll co-sign the last couple of posts - there just isn't a realistic match between us and Washington. I also think CV will be our first big off the bench, assuming Smith plays 20+ minutes at SF.
Maybe we're looking at the wrong Piston, and Jonas Jerebko could be sold as a stretch 4 in a deal with Washington. Jonas for a 2014 second rounder would be enough I would think.

Give Gigi (god that sounds wrong for a player) and the kids a chance before jumping on a deal... we have time to find out which ones will make the grade... we may already have the answer.

What's the deadline for having the roster down to 15? Is it after pre-season? It'd be nice for the Pistons to be able to see who fits best and then drop/trade whoever doesn't fit (likely Jerebko).

There is NO trade with Wash... Let me explain the CV paradox first.
When CV was brought to Det, he was brought in to be the man at $8mil/year. Totally not worth the payroll. He was/is a stretch 4 who could light up the offense with his ability to score from anywhere on the court. He's a big body who has no idea how to rebound or defend. That is not now, nor has it ever been the blueprint of a centerpiece at the 4 or 5 for the Det Pistons.
I realize that a lot of people just want CV gone but this is the first year he actually makes sense for some minutes. With Dre & Smith on the court, CV can just focus on what he does best... Stretch the floor and hit outside j's & 3's. Dre & Smith will handle the interior defense on the other end of the court. Plus, with Dre a year older and Smith a leader on the court, CV may actually try to measure up defensively. He may be better at it because it will be it will be a focal point by players who are actually on the court. At the end of the day, he will still be a lousy defender, albeit, better than he's been.
CV as you all know will expire at the end of the year and Det will just be sliding into the playoffs this year. CV will not see anymore than 12 min/game and that's sharing time at the 4 and the 5. He is a much needed asset to this Det squad this year. He should also look to others the way he did to us when he was a FA in MIL in 2008. The thing is, other teams will take notice because he is now an attractive asset as a useful expiring who can stretch the floor. CV should appeal to the Lakers & D'Antionio's system because they could care less about defense. CV is still young and has the ability to contribute. Just don't ask him to play defense!!!

Washington is way "Over" the Salary Cap. They're looking for a "Stretch Four"(CV). Pistons need a Backup Center (Oakafor) Pistons have Cap Space(5Mil). Pistons roster over the limit, need to trade(Two for one). Trade: Wash: Oakafor (14.5mil) for: Det: Villanueva (8.5mil), Kravtsov (1.5Mil) & Cap Space. Helps both team

Why do we need a backup center if we have Andre and Moose? Heck, we used CV at center too. That's 4 guys who we can put at center on the roster (including Slava), and two of them are actually pretty freaking good centers.

CV is a MUCH better fit this year over Okafur. We need scorers up front this year, not more defense. Okafur is more of the same. Interior defense without the ability to score the ball.

I don't see anything they have that we need. Charlie V has value now as an expiring contract. There's no need to just give him away to the first team that asks. We should be able to get something useful in return, and unless they offer Beal or Wall, we are set up front and don't anything else they have to offer.

A package of charlie v and stuckey is way more valuable then just charlie for ariza or something, which I wouldn't do now that we have smith. I think if the pelicans are shopping eric gordon we might be able to get him for stuckey/charlie v.

CV might actually be a useful piece this year. I don't trade him for Ariza. We have enough SFs.

CV & Stuckeys expiring's will get us something with next Summers crop of FA's. Im virtually certain of that.

Can we end this fable about CV and Stuckey having value as expirings? The only thing you're going to get is contract(s) of questionable value that are the same length or even longer. You aren't getting assets like picks or young players.
And while I think there is some potential and reason to be excited about this year's team, it doesn't change the fact CV is a DNP for good reason. The guy was awful last year. Can't see giving him any time at the four. I'd use the big three for all the 4-5 minutes with the three of them together for stretches.

16 million dollars worth of expiring contracts has value to it no matter who the players are imo.

Wizards fan here. I don't think we are interested in Villanueva for Ariza. Ariza was actually quite good for us last year. He is a better player than CV at this point and both are expiring. Given Cv's current reputation, I think he likely does have more trade value as an expiring. That should be decent value though.

Yup, definitely some value.
