Would you trade Monroe/Knight for Thompson/Barnes?

Benefit for us, we'd have nearly $24 million in capspace next season because Monroe wouldn't be taking up $14 million.

We'd have a lineup of
C:Drummond
PF:Smith
SF:Barnes
SG:Klay (one of the best most efficient scorers/shooters in the NBA)
PG:Billups

With $24 million to add free agents to the mix next summer.... We could actually be the pefect landing spot for a high profile FA SF or PG.

GS would run with.

C: Monroe
PF:Lee
SF:Iggy
SG:Curry
PG:Knight

It really amazes me that people here want to trade a big who just gave us 16 and 9 as 3rd year player...Dre Drummond I thought you were basketball guru...Here's a little advice, never trade a big for small...

Its a big for multiple wings who both have allstar potential. It also buys cap space and time. Pistons very well could be a contender after that trade and would be ECF favorite the next yr. If Drummond developes offensively having Thompson/Barnes/KCP could turn us into a better team than the Magic that reached the finals and a team that could contend with the 95,96 Rockets.

Of course the Warriors wouldnt do it without giving us some bad contracts at the least. I would guess David Lee would be coming in a salary dump.

Stuckey+CV31+Monroe+ Knight (I would bet they would rather want KCP) for Lee, Thompson, Barnes

I don't think the W's would do this. They've got a certain style they want to play. Curry/Thompson/Barnes/Iguodala/Bogut (or Lee) is perfect for that style. Monroe is the opposite of how they want to play.

@Warspite: But Drummond needs at least 2 more years to develop an offensive game...We all watched him in summer league...Giving up 6'11 Monroe would be a bad idea...That's 16 and 9 on close to 50% fg percentage...You guys really want to give that up??. To be honest, I really think if Smith/Monroe/Drummond don't work out, Smith is the 1st to go...We could get just as much in return for Smith as we could get for Monroe...That's my opinion...

not right now. let monroe and drummond be together. there has been WAY too many moose trade scenarios since the smith signing. leave him alone, him and drummond can be dominant.

Barnes & Thompson is fair value though. Our team would be NASTY!

Imagine Thompson draining threes and everyone else attacking the rim. We'd be fun to watch.

I'm a big Barnes fan, so I think this trade idea has some merit. However, as our big three develop, they have a chance to be a team that always has two of three board dominant bigs in the game at all times, and at least one great shotblocker protecting the paint. The relentless force of having a big 3 taking all the time at C and PF could make us extremely competitive with any team in the league, in time.

I also think that we need to see how Gigi, Singler and Middleton shake out. They might give us great play (all of them, or 1 or 2 of them) at the SF position. Monroe would also give us a fantastic trade asset in a year or two in a deal for a great PG - IF Knight doesn't turn out the way some of us still hope at that position.

So, I'm with dan2134 on this one. "Not right now." Maybe never.

No. Thompson/Barnes are not THAT good...we give up the best player in the deal here in Monroe. Besides, KCP will be better than Thompson anyway. (quote me on that).

Warriors will never do this deal, they will be giving up the two best players in the deal by far...

Yeah, I'm not the hugest Klay Thompson fan.

Monroe is the best player in this proposed trade. But Barnes is a guy I wouldn't be shocked at if he turns into a perennial all-star. If he has the heart and resolve, that kid is a major talent. That's a big question - does he have the heart and resolve?

I like the trade because it balances out our team. But Monroe is clearly and by far the best player involved in this.

I don't think that Golden State would do it.

Obviously this is the type of trade that has a huge risk, huge reward potential. Both Klay and Barnes have all-star potential as does Monroe... I would do this trade because it does better balance out our roster and it gives us multiple players who will still be on rookie contracts for multiple years... Giving us $24 million in capspace once again next summer. Being a playoff team with capspace is going to be more appealing to FA's next summer than we were to FAs this summer as a lotto team.

That said I would still HATE to trade Monroe because I really do see him as a potential 20 and 10 guy and those guys are so rare in todays NBA.

No. It's too early to suggest trading Monroe for anybody. There needs to be sometime to assess what the new frontcourt looks like. Is it a huge advantage or a failed experiment? Also Monroe has been solid...rock steady.

Even in what appeared to be a really down year, he still exhibited some improvement over the previous year. It is reasonable to think he will have something of an advantage over power forwards after cutting his teeth at the center position. Monroe's improvement and the possibility of having a special frontcourt should give us a bit of pause.

Harrison Barnes struggled a bit and came on strong in the playoffs when they shifted him to the 4 against Denver. Then he disappeared in the next series against the Spurs. Klay Thompson is a special young player with a sweet outside touch.

But I'm one of the few who still believe Brandon Knight has a tremendous upside and could be really special at the pg position. The team has shown committment in leveraging some of their investment in BK7 by setting up a proving ground to school him with a Coach who was a Hall of Fame point guard and a cagy vet who will one day be a Hall of Fame pg. Let's see how he responds. If he rises to the occasion and has a breakthrough year, we have an asset worth the investment. But if he fails to respond, move him.

I wouldn't make the trade.

A lot of homerism here but I would do this deal in a heart beat.

the value is fair, but im on the fence.

The size advantage and versatility of our frontcourt is pretty unique in the league.
I'd like to see how it all fits together before moving any of those pieces. Also I'm looking forward to KCP developing into a similar version of Klay, but not as good i guess.

This trade does balance out the roster but leaves us with only Slava at back up C and a bunch of lower level wings that won't get minutes.
