49 wins, 33 losses L in 1st round to Lakers

Rasheed averaged 25.3ppg - 12.3rpg in the playoffs.

During the season, their lineup is interesting...
C - Dale Davis - 9.5ppg - 8.8rpg - 1.3apg - 0.8spg - 1.1bpg - 31.4mpg - 51.0% - 0.0/0.0 for N/A 3's
PF - Rasheed Wallace - 19.3ppg - 8.2rpg - 1.9apg - 1.3spg - 1.3bpg - 37.5mpg - 46.9% - 1.4/4.0 for 36.0% 3's
SF - Scottie Pippen - 10.6ppg - 5.2rpg - 5.9apg - 1.6spg - 0.6bpg - 32.2mpg - 41.1% - 0.9/2.9 for 30.5% 3's
PG - Damon Stoudamire- 13.5ppg - 3.9rpg - 6.5apg - 0.9spg - 0.1bpg - 37.3mpg - 40.2% - 1.4/3.9 for 35.3% 3's
SG - Bonzi Wells - 17.0ppg - 6.0rpg - 2.8apg - 1.5spg - 0.3bpg - 31.7mpg - 46.9% - 0.9/2.3 for 38.2% 3's

The next year Cheeks and Rasheed won 50 games in the superior Western Conference. (6th seed in West = 1st seed in East)

Then they went 41-41 and they traded Rasheed(they had Zach Randolph now) to the Pistons... Detroit won the title.

I have a feeling our Pistons might have a lot in common with these Portland teams... Minus the drama, hopefully...

Maybe Drummond/Monroe/Smith will grab every rebound and learn to immediately pass(trained by Sheed) to a sprinting Knight/Pope(maybe even Stuckey!) combo with Josh Smith and Andre Drummond following behind(sometimes ahead) looking for MONSTER dunks. Monroe would take advantage in the post, especially when the opponents bigs are winded from our fast breaks. Think of how many steals Drummond and Monroe will get at the 4/5 positions... Think of all of Drummond's blocks... and now, Smith too! This could be a very, very exciting year.

Talent wins in the NBA. It's the most important factor, more than anything else. Coaches help develop that talent and organize it, but ultimately, the best coach in the world can't win without talent.

Point being- your post is some interesting history but doesn't amount to much more information that a pile of horse crap.

I think we could be a little of both Philly and Portland styles. We have the bigs like those Portland teams had to be successful in the halfcourt, but we also have the athletes to run like the Philly teams had. Combine the strengths of both and take away the weaknesses and that's a pretty good combo to have.

The fact that Cheeks has coached two of the best SF's in Pippen and Durant (and played with the best in Dr. J) lends credibilty to their decision to convert Smith to SF. Cheeks has to know that position pretty good and Smith is similar in build/athleticism to all three of those guys. So it makes sense that he sees him as a SF. (Though he will play both positions)

I think our team is more talented than that team. I see us playing similar basketball and ending up with 45-50 wins.

IDK man, I loved watching those Portland teams and it always seemed like Pippen was the most important player on both ends of the floor for them.

treei this is some good info. I just wanted to make a slight correction. Portland traded Sheed to Atlanta, we traded with Atlanta to get Sheed. In that trade we sent over a first round pick which Altanta used to sign Josh Smith, the same Josh Smith we just signed in the offseason.

Pippen was banged up pretty bad once he got to that Portland team (used to miss roughly 20+ games every season). Also the focal scoring threat outside of Sheed was initially Steve Smith...then Bonzi Wells. Pippen didn't play the point forward in the Portalnd offense, so his impact wasn't nearly what it was in Chicago.

Anywho...I like our team's potential. I really hope we see breakout years from our players and a greater measure of cohesiveness than what we've seen over the past several years.

Lol what? Did you ever watch Sabonis play? if you think Monroe is a good passer go watch Sabonis, he was 1000 times better than Monroe and I'm as big of a Monroe homer as they come.

Also who the hell is our Rasheed? Did you watch him play? (you obviously did if you're a Detroit fan) Do you have any idea how physically AND Skilled gifted he was? He was the first offensive option in a team with Sabonis, Pippen and Steve Smith. He was damn close to win a ring in Portland as the first option on offense for them, He dominated the Lakers they had no answer for him.

None of our bigs will be as good as Portland's Sheed on offense even at their prime, even with Sheed himself coaching them.

Sabonis was possibly the best passing bigman of all time. That guy was absurd. Go check out some of his mix's on the youtube.

Guy would have been one of the all time greats if he came over before he was 100, and didn't get injured blah blah blah.
