I like John Wall, but that's an overpay imo.

No surprise there. He was a top 30 player the last couple months of the season and he's been the face of the franchise for a few years. It's a bit of a gamble--what if those 6 weeks of 22/5/8 were a fluke?--but everything they've built hinges on him being a dominant pg. They want to keep him happy happy happy and let him know the franchise is his.

Copy & Pasted from my reply o the General Board
I'm not a big John Wall fan, but they've got to do it. He showed enough last year to show he just might be getting it. You don't want to be the team that went through the struggles of developing him only to watch him explode on another team. It's like planting an apple seed and tending to it every day for a few years. Just before it's ready to bear apples, you chop it down because you've spent all these years working on it and it hasn't given you an single damn apple. f***** apple tree.

He's worth every penny.

Surprised they offered it now when he's restricted next year... A career ending injury this year and the Wiz are out $80 million.

Despite the risk of him not living up to it, Washington really doesn't have a better option in front of them.

It wouldn't be the first time.

I'm confident that he'll have a breakout year next season, I think you've got to give him that deal if you're the Wizards.

Only way I'd see us giving Monroe an extension early would be if we felt we could get him at a reduced rate. For instance, if he wanted the long term security of a big NBA contract now he could take $13.5 million per year on a flat rate for 5 years (same amount per year we gave Smith) and then we'd be saving some money off the max contract. He'd get $67.5 million over 5 rather than the $80 million Wall is getting.

I like it from both sides. Wall gets the security and the Wizards send the message that he is still the pillar of the franchise. Wall has a chance to be very, very special due to his combination of athleticism and unselfishness. For being a flashy guy he has no problem taking a back seat in the half court when another player has it going. He's a blur in transition and a joy to watch.

He will be worth every penny. Wall will emerge as a top 3 PG within the next season or two, and it wouldn't surprise me if he eclipses CP3, DRose and Westbrook. He's bigger than all of them, a better passer than Rose/Westbrook, potentially a more impactful defender than CP3 because of his size, and his shot has shown a lot of improvement.
To be honest, I'd give up any combination of any 3 players on our team for him outside of Drummond. He reminds me a lot of young DWade, though I really don't expect him to be that good.

Is he REALLY better than these guys?
CP3
Rose
Westbrook
Parker
Curry
Irving
Lilliard
D.Williams
Ty Lawson
maybe
Jrue Holiday
Mike Conley
Rajon Rondo

He's better than Lawson, Holiday, Conley, Lillard and Rondo. Luckily, this is about where he will be in his prime rather than where he is now. And I believe within the next 2 years he will eclipse DWill/Parker/Curry. With the improvement he's shown it wouldn't surprise me. He's gotten stronger, became a better shooter and his decision making has definitely gotten better.
