OT - Questions about Austin Daye

Post#1 » by Roski » Tue Jul 30, 2013 11:59 pm

Hey pistons fans! Just wanted to ask you guys for your opinions on Austin Daye, as he was a piston for 3.5 years and just signed a 2yr $2mil contract with Toronto. Is he a good player, bad player, strengths, weaknesses, do you think he can thrive depending on the situation, etc. I know his ceiling is likely a solid role player but he intrigues me for some reason. Hopefully you guys can educate me a bit. :D

BTW im very excited to watch your new pistons squad this year, also piston mods i apologize in advance if this doesn't warrant a new thread or is too off topic.

He has 1 skill and that is shooting. He will be a very good spot up shooter but let him dribble the ball and is TO, after TO, after TO.

He can shoot...sometimes. He can't play D. He can't rebound. He can't dribble. He will step out of bounds about once a game.

However, the ladies of Toronto will love him. I have never seen a dude get more random, "Who's that player?" questions than Austin Daye.

Look at what you paid him - that's what you're getting.

He has the tools to dominate, but not the mentality - AT ALL. Might be the most mentally soft player in the league.

Tons of skill but all he can do is shoot...and hell he should be a better one than what he is. Situational shooter at best

He can shoot the ball really well, but is inconsistent. He's a VERY poor defender, but is sometimes capable of making up for it due to his length. He's a good rebounder for an SF, but bad for his height (6'11"). When his confidence is high he'll make a lot of jumpers, but his confidence is almost always in the dirt. If he misses a shot or two, or makes a mistake he'll have very poor body language, and take himself out of the game. If he could fix his mentality, he's be a solid role player. But he just isn't mentally tough enough right now to be even a role player.

He can shot, about 1/3 of the time. He sucks the rest of the time, especially when his shot is off. He can't defend, he can't rebound, he can't pass, he turns the ball over, he lacks size, confidence and decision making. If it weren't for Darko, Austin Daye would be seen as Joe Dumars greatest mistake as a GM. He is THAT bad.

He's a colossal flop. He can shoot the 3, but he's one of the streakiest shooters I've ever seen, which is code for "bad" shooter. Very inconsistent. Isn't committed to defense.

If you're hoping that Toronto tanks for Wiggins this season, he's a great pickup for you!

So essentially hes a streaky t.o prone jumpshooter who doesn't impact the game in anyway besides shooting, being tall, and womanizing the female fanbase of whatever team is unfortunate enough to have him as a player?

He looks like Ryan Hollins, just better-looking.

He won't even play unless other moves are made.

He's our 4th best SF behind Gay, Novak, Fields. Same at PF behind Johnson, Hansborough, Acy........this is a fill out the roster type move. I see 50 DNP's.

I guess the guy is too hard on himself.. but that's okay... with the system Toronto runs... Casey lets anyone shoot the lights out... he'll be fine on offense.. he does need to work on his defense to survive within the roster..

The same Toronto fans that troll the "Jennings thread", have posts like these.. WOW

Raps are going to be in the playoffs this year.

That award-winner is referring to Austin "Jordan 2.0" Daye.

One of the guys that called me a homer.

^Not sure how Austin Daye is a great move. He's a non-factor. He wont get many mins, and his one skill(shooting) is overshadowed by his inconsistency, poor defense, lack of strength and AWFUL decision making.

We're all homers in one way or another, but people will hate anyway because they don't want to see a once great team become great again while their respective team continues to suck.

Honestly I hate the immaturity some of the Toronto posters that give the rest of us a bad rep. I just hope everybody ignores them. Every board has those kind of posters but the raptors board is so large that there's more of them running around than most teams. I'm a Toronto fan first but IMO the more quality teams there is in the league the more exciting it is to watch NBA basketball, so I'm not spiteful when players like Drummond have great seasons and am genuinely happy for their fan base, just like im happy when players like Valanciunas had a great season for the raptors. :D.

It's just a few. I know that. Most of the Toronto fans are alright.
