Kawhi Leonard

Should we make a run at him at some point? I think the kid can be at least a top 10 SF in this league. Even though I rather keep Monroe right now, I wouldn't mind offering him, a pick and a filler player. I think both players go into FA at the same time so if we know Monroe was wanting to leave, we could bring in Leonard.

I'd also like to make a run at AA this year. Just think of this lineup one day.

Jennings
Afflalo
Leonard
Smith
Drummond

That's top 5 defense right there.

Kiawah Leonard is a solid player, but I'm not sure if I'd be willing to give up Gerego Monroe for him. I don't think expirings like Ronyedo Stuckey or Cheralia Villanueva would be enough value for the Spurs, though. Besides, everyone plays better in a Spurs uniform. That's just a fact.

I like Leonard a lot, and I agree that we'd have a great defensive team with that lineup. But if anyone's going to be adding extra players in a trade of Monroe and Leonard is SA. Monroe is worth more than Leonard. If San Antonio were going to throw in a few future 1st's (2-3) I'd consider the trade, but I don't think I'd do the trade. I'm also concerned about Kawhi's knees. Supposedly they're not the best and he is prone to getting injured. Based off that alone, I wouldn't trade Monroe, who's extremely durable, for Kawhi who's got injury concerns if he plays too much.

the only offer i'd accept is Leonard, Danny Green and a future first. And i doubt San Antonio accepts that. doesn't seem plausible at this point

Leonard, Green and a first is definitely a good start, but I'd still want at least 1 more future first. That said, SA has good big men, but they don't have much SF depth so I highly doubt they'd entertain trading Kawhi.

I doubt that the Spurs would do that trade either. I don't see where Moose fits on that team, and everyone in SA thinks that Leonard is the next super-star SF. While the Spurs are not selling their future, they are still very much trying to win now, before Duncan gets too old and retires.

I'm timid on Leonard. I'm not as high on him as others are. I think a fair amount of success is a result of the Spurs system, and the amazing luxury of sharing the court with Duncan, Parker and Ginobili.

I think if you put him on Detroit's roster, he's one of the better 3/D players in the NBA, as his defense on LeBron was fantastic in the finals.

But, would I give up a blue chipper like Monroe for him? I don't know.

deal I posted (both here and on T&T board) awhile back was...

Monroe/Jerebko/Singler/Middleton

for

Leonard/Green/Bonner

I did not add any picks in as I felt SAS would already be unlikely to do a deal as is.

thread on our board... Trade Idea - SAS

thread on T&T board... DET - SAS

I still like the idea (Middleton would no longer work obviously) but am not in any hurry to move any of our bigs yet and would prefer to wait and see how things look first. IF the spacing IS an issue... then I would look into a trade. For this exact trade... it would also come down to how well SAS was doing to that point because they may not want to rock the boat if on the right track still.

Man you should be at least able to spell his name by reading the OP.

I remember rumors had us being high on Leonard but posters were down on him, and I was later very temporarily relieved by posters that we had Brandon Knight slip to us.

Kawhi played very valuable roles against Durant and LeBron and is already a fantastic role player.

This sounds eerily similar to "we're not trading Knight anytime soon". I never really understood how you used to post that with so much conviction as if Knight was this untouchable.

 I know!..Man, I'm still surprised we traded Knight...Knight and Monroe are two totally different players though, Monroe is a legit 23yr old double-double machine plus everyone knows you never trade a big for small...

He already is.

Many of you are downplaying how good Leonard is. He was arguably the best player for SA in the finals. When most players shrink in the big moments, that 22 YEAR OLD shined.

The guy plays great man defense. Does very well on the glass at his position. He has really long arms and great court awareness both offensively and defensively. The argument that his game play is elevated with the big 3, is valid. However, as members of the big 3 struggle, its no coincidence the kid steps up given the opportunity. They could give him 15 shots next year and he would still be efficient. At 22 and with the tools he has, there is no doubt in my mind he will be a star in this league.

I highly doubt SA would give up Leonard for Monroe. Thats how much they see in him as well.

Ill never get over how some random fan can watch a game and see a good player and then think his team should go out and get him like its as easy as getting lunch at Mc Donalds.

LBJ looked pretty good too in the FInals we should at least go after him 1st. LBJ,Bosh for Monroe, CV and Stuckey works.

Jennings/LBJ/Smith/Bosh/Drummond is much better than what we have I wish Dumars was smart enough to see that and make that trade.

We can easily get Leonard for Monroe.

Only in your mind.

Post one link that says the Spurs are shopping Leonard.

Monroe has no trade value to the Spurs. They have 2 bigs on big contracts and Moroe is a RFA. They have no money to sign him.

I'd do it for Monroe +Jerebko for Splitter, Leonard, and Green and future 1st.
